Beginning at 12 PM, Thursday, January 4 we will be opening Free Character Moves for a number of realms. The destination realms will be newly opened with character creation disabled for the period of free transfers. These transfers will run until 11PM, Tuesday, January 9.

Destination: Nazjatar - PVP, Pacific - Shadowburn Battlegroup

* Daggerspine
* Illidan
* Destromath
* Spinebreaker
* Mal'Ganis

Destination: Baelgun - PVE, Pacific - Shadowburn Battlegroup

* Garona
* Blackhand
* Greymane
* Alleria
* Anvilmar

Destination: Alterac Mountains - PVP, Eastern - Nightfall Battlegroup

* Warsong
* Skullcrusher
* Burning Blade
* Executus
* Kel'Thuzad

Destination: Arygos - PVE, Eastern - Nightfall Battlegroup

* Durotan
* Eonar
* Draka
* Duskwood

My guild is torn on this, Blackhand's got big queues right now. Anyone who's seen something like this before have any thoughts on whether it's better to move or stay?

Well, if you guys are an established raiding guild, it really doesn't matter how the economy is or what the community thinks. You guys should be self-sufficient by now. You don't need really the help of the community.

On the plus side, you guys can transfer as a guild onto a newer server where you'll get to be more uber than everyone else (epeen +3) and also there will be far less lag. It's always fun just to move to some new place and interact with new people, even if half of them hate you.

On the downside, most servers hate and despise transfers. They'll usually claim your guild are 'a bunch of noobs who couldn't cut it on your old server' and things of that nature. They'll get over it though. You'll also have to leave behind a lot of non-guildie friends you had on your server as well. Just make sure you're transferring for the right reasons. Don't be like me, transfer with a guild to a new realm, discover the game is no longer fun because all your RL friends play on a different server, gquit said guild, and transfer back to the original server.

Remember, if you mess up, you'll have to wait 3 months before you can transfer again.

My raiding guild is also discussing this. The officers are all for it, and they are polling the members. I personally will go where they go.

I don't think my guild will be at the top of the totem pole, to be honest. Daggerspine is a notoriously "backwoods" server when it comes to PvE.

Still, the queues are getting very annoying. And I hate my battlegroup (Cyclone).

I personally will go where my guild goes, though I will have to leave some friends behind.

You'll lose members from people that don't want to move.

But there will be plenty of people to pick up to fill those lost. There will be alot of "singles" that X-Fered over.

We're a social guild, not open recruiting. It's been decided we'll get the word out among the RL friends and if more than one person objects by Sunday we won't transfer.

My previous guild took this transfer last night (if you're on Greymane, you'd know why Prev transfered :P). Things to note about the free transfers:

1). The transfer destinations (well, Baelgun at least) are NOT established servers, they were created (again, this is only dealing with Baelgun. The other servers may be different, but I doubt it) specifically for these transfers.

2). From a post on the Greymane forums, it appears that these transfers are not tied to the 3 month cooldown on paid transfers. Meaning that you could transfer back to your old server through the paid service if you feel you've made a mistake.

That being said, I'm not goin' anywhere, Zarniwoop was born on Greymane, and that's where he's dieing.

I really wish my realm was nominated for this as the queues are getting really bad lately. And my realm is just under the threshold of being one of the popular realms so we don't get the nice new hardware and free transfers. Oh well I will just tough it out.

But maybe old server is not eligible for transfers; You would then not be able to pick it from list. And since they are offering this grand scale free server transfer, it probably isn't.

QFT

Although, at the same time, maybe the allowing transfers off will open them back up for transfer to. I remember reading some stories like that before about how a server was extremely full, and then a free transfer came and basically emptied out the server so much it got put to "recommended" because of the loss of people. That could be something for your guild to think about also... just what kind of impact the x-fer will have on the current server. They obviously have selected your realm for a reason, and maybe a lot of other people will take it and the queues will be gone.

The clincher for us was realizing what TBC will mean. All the retired 60s from Blackhand will be coming back. Those people simply do not exist on Baelgar. We're gonna miss a few guilds we've made friends in, particularly XS force, a developing guild we just discovered that reminds us of us, but when the server has 600-900 queues... it's 11 PM server time and still a 100-person queue.

While that is true, it is still possible that Blackhand will be basically emptied with so many jumping ship... Also, you have to wonder if the retired 60s didn't make alts to level and are adding to the queue time so they'll transfer for TBC. Though, some people will probably reactivate accounts if they closed them... but, if they quit once...

It's official, my guild is transferring to Nazjatar. From a tribe of Nagas to the Naga capital.

There are really only two people I will miss, and both of them are not in my guild... I'm excited and nervous at the same time.
