Proof the pvp system is giving too many newbs too good of gear:

All these are from people with full HWL gear...

-An orc hunter in this got the first shot on me when I wasn't in stealth. He still lost the fight after popping bestial wrath and one healing potion. I didn't use a single cooldown. Nub.

-An orc shaman in this followed me off the bridge in AV. I landed at the bottom, taking about 700 damage while he was dead/near death. I then killed him with a white attack. What makes this story bad is he did it three times.

-An undead rogue in this blew all of his cooldowns except evasion twice (evasion he only blew once) and still died with me having close to 95% health.

What this means:

Alot of people who don't know their class very well are disgracing the name of HWL gear. I remember when if you saw someone in that stuff, you knew they were a good player and that you'd have a hard fight. Now though... too many nubs.

yeah, ive seen that a lot too. the mage with HWL dagger+book and several epic pvp pieces who couldnt get a single cast-time spell on me because i just danced around him too well. or the warlock who kept casting fear on me while zerker rage was up (without putting a single dot on). that lock had the GM staff. any number of dual wielding wars who dont seem to understand the importance of disarm immunity vs another warrior. i laugh every time i disarm one of them as they swing helplessly with death wish up.

I still have trouble casting spells on targets the jump around, and I use my mouse too for that
:( Guess I just need to practice more. I'm still used to just standing there and casting dots and sb's. I'll eventually get it though after like 2 "Target must be in front of you."
And you would think that those with the full set, even though it is easier now to get, would still have some sense on how to pvp because they did, after all spend a lot of time in bg's

edited to fix sad face :-P

Yeah, I find this a problem too. A lot of Shamen are DWing HWL Axes, I somehow find myself out-DPSing them using Frostbite/Lobotomizer assorted greens and full Defiler's set with Don Julio's.

Not necessarily true. On my server, there was a guy who Moonfire spammed his way to GM, though the last couple ranks were said to have been done by a power leveling service.

Absolutely. On my server, the first HWL was played by 3 people in rotation until they finally got reported and shut down.

Rank in WoW under the old system meant time spent, not necessarily skill. Not to say some of 'em aren't skilled, just that time is the biggest factor by far.

i absolutely agree. it's much too easy to get hwl gear now and you have loads of nubs in lvl50 greens with hwl weapons. they never went through the gear progression and are given a short-cut to epics.

on the other hand, i understand blizz doing it to level the field for when the expansion hits. but it still sucks.

I somewhat agree.
I like the new system, and that it makes great gear available to the general public... Though I don't really enjoy seeing every rogue running around with the same 2 GM swords.

HOWEVER, I really enjoy completely whomping a noob with GM weapons.
Even if they don't have the skill, they have the gear; which makes their defeat all the more delicious. Smiley: sly

Not sure if you noticed, but this pvp system change happened at this time for a reason. It was to be a time sink to keep people busy until the xpac. They didn't want people canceling account right before the xpac, so the answer??? Leet gear. Plus, this crap will be outdate 2 weeks into the expansion.

Inuyasha has a valid point here. Compare this to a store which is about to buy its winter line of clothes. The first thing it does is put any of the leftover spring inventory at a discount. When it gets closer to the release day for the winter stock, there's a fire sale on all outdated clothes.

It's not an exact analogy, but once BC comes out, people won't be looking to spend hours and hours to get gear that can be matched by soloing or doing instances on Outlands. It's the same reason Blizzard increased rep returns on the various factions- how many people are going to spend weeks getting AD, CC, Timbermaw, etc. rep to Exalted when they can just join some PuGs in Outlands and get better rewards? Perhaps Alchemists and Enchanters who want the recipes, but I'm willing to bet those will have better replacements as well.

HWL gear, depending on how you look at it, was for people who were either great PvPers (not necessarily great all-around players), or had way too much time on their hands, having to spend 16+ hours for months just PvPing. Personally, I always saw people with GM gear and HWL gear as people that had a lot of free time to PvP and spam the Global Defense channel with useless spam, but then, I'm no PvPer.

I am getting more interested in PvP now, simply because I feel the rewards are finally actually obtainable for me now. I'm willing to bet that, once BC comes out, there will be PvP gear that puts current HWL/GM gear to shame, and this is simply Blizzard's way of letting people gear up relatively easily for BC.

And just because someone's new to BGs and doesn't have strategies & tactics down just yet, it doesn't make them a nub. It means they need to learn more. The game isn't just PvP, remember. Some of us have played mainly in PvE, and haven't gotten the experience yet to PvP and win- yet. Smiley: tongue

Edit: rated up Shaolinz for giving me a decent topic to debate in the morning. Smiley: boozing

this is true.

still, i laugh a little every time i see a shaman dual wielding axes/hammers, or a war dual wielding, or a rogue with a helm of fire and a GM dagger. it seems so out of place. almost akin to giving a child a gun; they have no idea of the power they hold in their hands.

there is something to be said for countless hours of pvp as a skill builder tho. i imagine itll take quite awhile for many of these "nubs" to catch up skill wise.

Blizz has updated their PvP rewards page.

I saw a level 60 Mage in full HWL gear run into a camp of Twillights in Silithus, stand there for ten seconds while they shattered his Ice Barrier and Mana Shield, then died trying to RUN away from them (no Blink).

Yeah...

The only PvP gear I've had a chance to buy yet has been the Insignia for my Druid and the blue PvP boots for my Hunter (he was wearing level 47 greens prior to it).

Plus the queue on WSG/AB is just as long as that on AV now. I don't know how they manage to get full epic gear already.

I've been known for bringing the hurt to PvP with my all blues set. I grinded bg's enough to get my GM Repeater. Now I'm a force to be dealt with. (still blues) lol

Y'all are likely running into some people who've been both powerleveled *and* powerhonored.

I left my guild today because someone was bragging about how they "earned" 45,000 Honor in 5 days for $88 USD. Normally I'd just place them on ignore, however many others in the guild laughed and seemed supportive! I just couldn't believe how proud this dude seemed that he basically cheated, he acted like he'd just solo'd Onyxia or something! And because I don't roll with no cheatin' b!tches, I left.

But back to my point: it looks like for a mere ~$500 and a couple weeks worth of time, any fool on the planet can be the proud owner of a LV60 in complete HWL gear.

Sucks. Bad. :(

If your an honest player and work full time IRL it still takes a very loooong time to earn these rewards.

Sure cheaters and no lifers can bang out a couple epics in a few days but that is not most of us.

I have trouble hanging on to the honor points. I picked up some of the Blue Lt. set and a Lobo ect instead of shooting right for the GM weapon. This time I'm going to save though until I get it.

So true, so true. That's what ticks me off about it: here I am supporting myself with full-time work, on top of family commitments, and grinding honor with my spare time while getting relatively little honor per day... therefore WORKING for my gear... while Joe Schmoe can plop down some cash he got from mommy and completely surpass my every accomplishment.

Exactly. Many of the posts whining about how the "casuals" get their epixx for free make me wonder if I'm playing the same game. I am a casual. I work, have a girlfriend, friends, family that all take some time to care for. I play about 10-15 hours a week, as do most of the people I know. At my pace it still takes weeks, if not months to get enough honour for those "free" epixx that supposedly most people farm in a day or two...

But hey, that's fine. I don't need purple pixels to have fun in WoW.

Still, the frickin' PvP insignia already took me two weeks to get with my (now lvl40) mage!

I still remember how I got it with the old honour system after visiting the BGs for three evenings...

So please spare me the stories of "casuals" who run around fully decked in PvP epics...
