A Problem With WeaponsmithingFollow

First off, this is not meant to be in the Trade Skills, as it is not so much a question as it is a rant. I'm a 300 Black/Hammersmith, and I haven't sold a single thing since I hit 300. If we look at the best thing I can make, the Hammer of the Titans, we can see that the first thing to acquire for its construction is 15 Arcanite Bars. FIFTEEN! They sell for about 20 gold a piece on my server!!! Blizzard, I believe, has forsaken the Blacksmiths in our trade, and completely destroyed the chances for any of these beautiful weapons to be made. Does anyone see what is wrong with this? Or did Blizzard just THINK that Arcanite, and all the other expensive stuff would be so easy to get? One might as well do a Scholo run and get the Barovian Family Sword, or something easy like that, rather than saving up between 200-300 gold to make one weapon at level 56.

Thanks for ******** me over, BLizz. : /

No, they didn't think it would be easy to get. That's kind of the point of those high level recipes.

Too bad I have an extra two in my bank that I've picked up that no one will buy.

People who were first (or at least early) to get plans like Arcanite Reaper or some of the epic armor pieces made a killing, I know one person who made about 20k gold. However the game is always evolving and many crafts were left behind, becoming obsolete as easy to get instance gear and most recently PvP rewards replaced the old favourites. A lot of people abandoned smithing or leatherworking to take up herbalism or alchemy as these could make better money.

With the release of the expansion the pendulum may swing back the other way. It's obviously been recognised that some crafts were in a bad state and Blizzard is introducing some very attractive crafted items such as the Hand of Eternity (mace with +300 healing) which I expect will sell well. There's also a new concept of upgradeable Bind on Pickup weapons, for Hammersmith I believe the current top level mace is Dragonstrike:

Dragonstrike
Binds when picked up
Unique
Main Hand Mace
179 - 334 Damage Speed 2.70
(95.0 damage per second)
+16 Stamina
Durability 105 / 105
Requires Level 70
Requires Master Hammersmith

The recent change to Arcane Crystal drop rate is also having an impact with some high end craftables now being far easier to make. Once the current PvP madness passes I reckon may be a market again for some level 57-60 items made using easy-to-mine Arcanite - it's impossible to say where the prices will stabilise but it's no longer hard to get Arcanite Bars and that opens up a lot of possibilities.

Bottom line, now isn't a great time to be a smith but there has been times when it was a great profession and those times may come again.

The arcane crystal drop rate, from what I understand, have been modified. I've acquired approximately 25 arcane crystals since patch with, on average, about 30 mins play time per day mining.

This makes my Arcanite Champion I'm crafting for my pally pretty cheap. The only thing that I'm having trouble acquiring is the azerothian diamonds. I'll likely have about 35-40 arcanite bars by the time I get all of the diamonds at current drop rates. So really, if you do your own mining and transmuting, this is not that bad. Acquiring enough crystals to stay ahead of your alchemists cooldown is not that difficult with even marginal time devoted to it.

Not trying to beat you up or anything man, just saying maybe you hadn't mined as much since the patch? (I'm assuming you mine since you're a smith)

Green, where do you mine? I've always thought Arcanite Crystals to be dropped like Righteous Orbs...

I may just be a complete newb.

I find EPL, Un'Goro and Winterspring to be good. I've even been getting the crystals and other gems off of the small thorium veins in those zones as well.

I find it funny that I had no knowledge of this. What kind of veins are mined to recieve those crystals?

It used to be only Rich Thorium that would give you a chance at Arcane Crystals. Since patch 2.0 you are now able to get them from Small Thorium as well. From what I understand... the nodes in Outland give them very often so they'll be pretty common come the xpac in a couple weeks.

Rich thorium and small thorium.

Good thing to use is this sites search feature then you can click the links to various reagents and see where they drop from and read other peoples postings on what has worked/not worked for them.

Only reagents that I'll have bought for my Arcanite Champion and Crusader chant for it is the Riteous Orbs since I never have uninterrupted time to run the instance for the drops.

You really are kind, haha. Well, when I get back from work, I'm off to farm for my mace... even though it's not that great for a pally.

Any Rich Thorium Vein has a chance to drop Arcane Crystals. Just like it has a chance to drop Azerothian Diamonds, the emeralds and sapphires, etc. Azshara, Burning Steppes, and Un'goro Crater are the places I remember seeing the veins. Oh, yeah. On your way out of DM East if you beat the tree guy at the end. :) There's usually 3 - 5 veins in that tunnel, too.
