As usual, the post-Christmas volume spike is going strong, causing 300+ queues on our normal little server which hardly ever goes above 20, even on Friday evening. And to top it all off, TBC expansion is coming out in less than 2 weeks. This will cause another rush of both new players, and hardly-active players to dig into the game.
What I am wondering is if anyone has heard anything about new servers opening up? I am content on my server, and would not want to change, but having the newbie hose temporarily empty into a handful of new servers for a few months will go a long way to preserve the quality of the current ones. Just my thoughts :P

They've confirmed it for the EU realms, no word yet on the US realms. Though I can't seem to find the post about it atm, a CM on the EU Oboards said they were planning on opening all 3 kinds of servers around the launch of the expansion. I'm gonna guess the plan for the US is similar....

Ok, thank you :) Yes, I would think if they are going to open new ones for Europe, they would do the same in North America.
They should open up transfers from full realms to dead realms. We don't need new servers if they are not going to be used.

Well even if they upgrade the servers that will not stop ques to already full servers. New players tend to join servers that their friends already play on even if said server is full.
Maybe Blizzard will close joining already full / qued servers for a week or two until the TBC rush is over.
FYI: Blizzard has stated they will be increasing the player population caps on all servers after TBC is released. The reason for this is because the land mass of Azeroth will essentially be increasing by 25%, so to ensure that the world doesn't feel like it's being emptied out from a dispersed player population, they will allow more players into said world.

I expect Ed McMahon will finally give me the ten million dollars he promised me all those years ago before Blizzard will close account creation on any realm. If you think there’s ******** and moaning on the O boards now, that would cause the server to explode.
Just think of the reaction if a parent bought his/her child a copy of the game only to find that said child could not play on the parent’s same realm because Blizzard locked it off. The same holds true for friends and relatives of all sorts. It’s possible it could happen, just as it’s possible that the sun could go nova tomorrow, but it’s highly unlikely.
Of the possibilities listed above, I’m crossing my fingers for the ten million dollars.
this christmas hit me hard. I am on Eitrigg. Normaly no wait. Ever peak time no problem. Normaly there is maybe 1 maybe 2 other people grinding them mobs I need for quests and such..... No biggie. Part of the game. Every since christmas 400+ person queues. About 50 people in what ever zone I am in trying to do what I need to do. Its driving me nuts... There were 20 people yesterday in the raven hill cemitary all at the same bloody time. Ok leave there go to redridge..... Try to do fangore.. Lol 10 diffrent people slautering them... and to be even worse 2 60's around killing everything before I can even tag it. I dont understand why blizzards lets people create onto a full server.... DOH and that was just with one character. I logeed him off logged in with hunter in STV.. Same thing. swamped.. I just gave up and went to bed

QFT. My main is currently on a rather dead realm (Balnazzar), and opening up more servers is the last thing that server could use. My idea would be to merge a few of the lower population servers to make room for new ones. We'll have to see what the expansion does to the server populations, but currently it's just not as fun playing on a server with a dead economy, few PUGs, and very little world PvP.
