This January i get my lovely gaming laptop and i was wondering if playing WoW with a wireless internet connection hinders speed. I'm from the UK and im with an internet provider called BT and i use a Linksys router.
just like any connection you need to ensure the ports are properly mapped or you will have issues.

I have a wireless connection, and a dial up connection, and while for some games, wireless is tolerable, for some it stinks out loud. You can play PSU on Wireless, you cannot, in any sense, play FFXI on wireless, to some extent, you can play WoW SOMETIMES on Wireless, just make sure you're going to get disconnected very often. I have better results playing it on 56k. Just use the wireless connection for updates, and dial up for raids and what not, should be ok for farming.

again it all depends on your ISP, router, wifiNIC, and port mapping as to how often you will get dropped.
i have played wow for HOURS on end on a WiFi connection with zero issues other then a little higher then normal lag, then again i have had my connection dropped on a purely managed wired connection.
best thing is to follow the HOWTO guide on the blizzard site for port mapping/forwarding, make sure your router supports it properly, and follow any and all hacks to improve performance 1 at a time.
do 1 hack, test. compare results to no hack.
do the next hack without hack 1 and again test and compare.
wash and repeat until you find the best combination of hacks, tweeks, and other fassets to best suit your needs.

I'm on a Linksys router. We have 3 computers wired up (802.11g), all running WoW. We've had no lag problems whatsoever except when one of us is using a bittorent client to DL a patch.
As long as the signal is strong, it works fine for me. And you meet interesting people when playing wow at a cafe.
I played FFXI on wireless just fine O.o
Sometimes I hit major lag in Jeuno, but I don't know anybody who didn't.

Maybe it's time to upgrade your equipment?
I've been wireless for 3 or 4 years now and I played FFXI without a problem, I play FPS and WoW on it too with no more lag than I would have with a wire.
I have only played WoW over WiFi.
The only times I had any problems were when the signal would drop.
