If i would have 5 or 6 year old son, i wont let him to use computer, because litttle children later dont do anything except playing with computer, they will start playing all day/night ! its just HORRIBLE ! i personaly would restrict younger than 14 years old children to PLAY with computer ! (i see so much young children ruining their lives at the computer screen...)

All of you bashing the little kid for not reading yet, shut up and think of the last REAL "ADULT" BOOK you read and I don't mean some stupid anime BS either. He's a five-year-old that is still in kindergarten where it's fingerpainting not reading Hemingway or Fitzgerald.

I read A Distant Mirror: The Calamitous 14th Century over the weekend, you?

At least in California public schools, reading is more first grade-ish. Kindergarten (age 5) is count to 100, and know the alphabet.

My problem with letting my 6 year old PvP is while he can read, he does not watch chat.. so he is basically wandering around.

My problem with letting my 9 year old PvP is she dominates chat. Gives advice, orders, pep talks, etc.

Stages, you know.

That would only be if they were left on the computer unsupervised. The same would go for television, video games, ect...

The original message was for the person calling the boy a nub for not reading.

Right now I'm reading Thucydides: History of the Peloponnesian War, David Baldacci's: The Collectors and Patricia Cornwell's: At Risk. My 20-year-old nephew thinks heavy reading is that anime garbage and he's one of them that mispells everything or writes in leet in WOW and thinks it's clever and acceptable.

But I wish I had that little boy on my team in WSG, maybe then we would win!

Come on guys quit giving him so much credit. He's playing a Hunter, they use like two buttons.

Just kidding, save the flames.

You should see my 8 year old brother =P Yes he has a 24 hunter and indeed he can read. It just proves the fact that it isn't hard to get used to playing at WoW especially at WoW.

All it takes is just some time and practise, but I have to admit that 5 year old sure kicks ***!

IMO Video games are a great way to teach kids how to read and give them REAL motivation for it. It combines reading with fun which.... if my son had been going to his current school since Pre-K (like my youngest, my oldest started last year there) he would have been doing 3 book reports a month since 2nd grade.

The first full word my oldest learned how to read was "potion" at 4 so he could keep himself alive in single player RPG's.

My 8 yr old is an advid WoWer now. He started out in AC2 when he was 4, moved to FFXI with me (kinda.. more let him run around and lvl low jobs solo) and moved to WoW with my husband at release and again when we picked it back up together. Alas... I can't get my 5 yr old to even consider trying an MMO yet. Though... that might be ok cause that would mean a 3rd PC and another account cause that would just cause to much fighting lol.

While he shares my account, he dosent get all that much play time (only when I am at work and his homework is done). But he is happy with his 19 twink. Yep... he dosent like PvE at all. He would rather run around WSG and kill people.

After watching your son'a video, you know what... I will be SCARED as a Horde when he his 60... I have seen alot worse hunters who are alot higher lvl than him!

WTG parent's with the next lvl of gamers starting early!!!

any of you guys who are parents concerned with the "violence"?
i mean this is not too bad but it is still cutting people up with knifes, shooting them with guns, and bashing heads with hammers...

i hear of benefits of gaming, faster reflexes and a joyful experience backed by desire may be the best motivation to learn... hell i know what i know about PC's cus back in the days, my old PC could not play the games i wanted to...

but 5 year old?

my girls look at me when i am gaming, i make sure all i do is ride around and fly around...

i see their faces and expression change when my character kills a dog (wolf), cat (lion) or heaven forbid, a bear!

grats on the skill of your 5 year old...

and lastly, NOTHING, i mean, absolutely NOTHING can replace the first hand experience of reading... by reading, the author speaks directly to your mind, no interpretations like you see in movies and such... imagine that, Shakespeare, Thucydides, Nietzche, Emerson... the greats are speaking directly to your mind...

(of course, there is some loss in translation, forgive the pun)
