I would highly recommend druids. Don't be fooled by the leather and cloth armor. I was outside IF PVPing inbetween Battlegrounds. A Druid went into bear form and said he had 11,000 armor in bear form. Per my understanding you get that very early on, which greatly helps your ability to take damage. I've also fought against several who when I almost have them dead, pop into bear form and instantly have more HP.

More HP lots more armor in bear. Druids can heal, can solo well, you can summon tree's now to fight with you depending on your build. Fun stuff.

I personally feel that what class one plays depends on who the player is. When I started playing FFXI, I knew right away I wanted to be a black mage. That is just how I roll; standing back and throwing fire. I got a guild wars account, picked the job where I stand back and throw fire. Got a WoW account, and naturally made a mage, so I can stand back and throw fire. Granted, the equipment involved and the timing of my casting matters, but my main motivation is that I like to stand back and throw fire. To answer your question, I would need to know what you are looking for in your playing experience. From what I gather, you want to do damage. Druids, Warlocks, Thieves, Mages, and Hunters might be good for you. You also seem to want survivability. You may really want to simply be able to take several hits. A warrior may be good for you, though it would not allow you to heal without potions or first aid. I am really only knowledgeable on the workings of a mage, where my brand of survivability is simply choosing my battles. You seem to express interest in druids, because of their versatility. The official site tells you the strengths and weaknesses of the class; not just that you are limited to cloth and leather armor; the strengths of your various animal forms, although they may make you more suited for a particular situation, you will still be less capable than the class that corresponds to that animal form.

I do like the idea of there versatility and healing my cousin has one but he hates it mages seems awesome but hunters seem to be pretty cool but no healing.....i have palayed a pally at my friends to lvl ten i liked him just he didnt do to high of dmg. but what i want is to be able to be able to take a few hits and deal a ton of damage with out having to spend a million gold on being a twink or having to jump around aimlessly trying not to be hit

Ask yourself:

1. Do I like to get up close when I fight or from a distance? (tank or caster)
2. Do I prefer to solo or group?
3. Do I prefer to be damage dealer (dps) or support?

Well, The whole jumping around trying not to get hit really only applies to PvP settings. In PvE you won't jump around or necessarily move at all - save moving to get behind the target or kite.

Hunters = ranged attack with a pet. All you do is kite and attack in an attempt NOT to get hit. Especially evident in PvP. The first ten levels of Hunter suck, after that it's golden and levels the fastest pre-40.

Mage = highest DPS, great CC and AE. You are a glass cannon. You cannot take hits (at least not very many).

Warrior = Extremely gear dependent. You don't want to "twink" - so dealing great damage with warrior especially at later levels is not really an option.

It sounds like you'd prefer playing as a rogue. Lots of Damage. You can stunlock to prevent the enemy from moving. Great in PvP. Stealth. First Aid. And is probably the least gear dependent class in the game. (Save weapons)

Well from reading your post straight away I would offer you the choice of Shaman. You say you dont want to be a shaman because you want to be "alliance" but everything you say points to shaman.

1.They can heal.
2.They can take hits, especially with mail after 40
3.With enhancement specced talents and a good instance dropped weapon they can deal monsterous damage(WF FTW)

And even now you can be "alliance" and still be a shaman with BC coming out.

My second choice for you would probably be rogue. they are good at damage but dont have healing spells. and instead of having strong armor they dodge a larger portion of attacks than other classes

You can't have it all.

You want to heal
You want to be able to take damage
You want to be able to deal a lot of damage

You can't have it all. If you want these 3 things, you are going to have to accept the fact that you can do them, but not be quite the best at them.

Druid
Paladin
Shaman

I recommend druid. Shamans will be coming to Alliance on Jan. 16

Shamans are very fun, very versatile.
They got some great buffs from the last patch.

Honestly, you will enjoy leveling a shaman.

But if you want be versile you cant go wrong with paladin or druid as well.
Personally i have never played either to a high level, and thats only because I wasnt impressed, but thats only because my playstyle doesnt go well with them.

You should try them all to level 20 (It wont take long) then decide.

Trying to find the perfect one

There is no uber-class. (no, Jord, not even Warlock). Looking for the uber-class is an exercize in futility. There will always be someone better than you are, and if you become the best there is, then the search will come to an end too late to determine the class ahead of time.

Edit: The title of this post is one of the reasons I updated the FAQ today (section I, #18)
