Truthfully, IF you can even find it, i'd say no. You really get one thing that will be only available to the people with the CEs... and that is the non-combat netherdrake pet thing. You'll also get a mousepad and soundtrack... maybe an art book, I forget. However, if blizzard follows the same pattern they used with the normal CE, they'll release those things later anyways. So, if you were to REALLY want the soundtrack and mousepad you can just wait and get it later. If you REALLY want the pet thing though, you will have to try to find the CE.

I agree. Having recently taken up Engineering for fun on a couple of characters, I'd rather make a combat pet, than spend extra for a non-combat one, and I already have the soundtrack CD from Blizzard for the original game.

The main reason I want it is for the 2 hour making of DVD. I have always been interested in that kind of stuff.

The one important thing you're forgetting is that if you also play the WoW ccg then there are some exclusive cards in there as well as some normal packs. Not sure if the special cards are unique ones or if they're simply alternate art. Either way, it's another reason to get the CE (assuming you can find it).

I've been having people tell me that at 70 the pet will lay and egg that will be a flying mount (smell's of rotting bs to me) or something along those lines. The story differ's slightly from person to person. Would this be true, or something made up?

Pure BS. Blizzard has made it a point to never offer gameplay advantages through Limited edition products (across all their games). It's always cosmetic. They harp on it in every product they offer, and even forced that concept through to teh card game rewards.

the pet is purely a cosmetic one; no benefits other than cuteness and uniqueness.

Edited for clarity.

To be honest, I’m not really into the combat pets. Well, save for my hunter’s pets of course. *smiles*

The reason is simple; I want my pets out for more than 60 seconds every hour. What fun is that? Most engineered pets may as well be a spell effect or an explosive for all the time they get to see the light of day. Granted, the exploding sheep is an exception. It’s just too funny a concept not to be an exception. But combat pets like the chicken and the whelp, while fun while they last, are far too limited for my taste.

Engineering does make a couple of fun non-combat pets. The mechanical squirrel is a classic and the tranquil mechanical yeti is one of the coolest things since virtual sliced bread. So I give Blizzard a big thumbs up for providing both kinds of pets in one profession. I’m hoping for even more in the future.

I bought two copies of the new collector’s edition, just as I did the original. The fun I’ve had with the panda cub and the mini Diablo has more than made up for the difference in price. The soundtrack is really cool as well. And even though the new CE will only have one pet, I for one wouldn’t want to miss out on it. I’m also looking forward to some of the other items in the set. So I think it’s well wroth the price. And even if some of the items are not exclusive to the CE, I’ll already have them so I won’t have to buy them later.

Well, I've order the CE, I just want to know - can I have the Nether Whelp on all my characters, or only one? I play alot of characters (An altoholic) and don't want to deicde between one or the other. It's pretty much the reason I bought the CE, and I don't want to end up not using it, due to not being able to decide which of my many characters should get it.

If it is anything like the original CE, each newly made char gets a little item that starts a quest to obtain the pet. In the original CE it was the cub, zergling, or diablo. I immagine they will do something similar with the whelp... you're also supposed to get a code like with the TCG items or the blizzcon pet for existing chars... maybe it'll be something like that for all the chars. Either way though, I HIGHLY doubt it'll be only for one char as people were worried about whether it would be only available to newly created chars and that is when blizz announced the code thing
