I originally posted this in the hunter forums, but hey, I want some views and replies.

This is just so I could vent, so feel free to flame me, I could care less

I originally chose a dwarf hunter, got him to level 39 1/2 and now I keep getting the urge to re-roll NE for shadowmeld and it's driving me crazy. I hear about all of these cool ways that hunters can use SM and it seems like it would totally fit my play style. Using a cat to prowl with humanoid tracking and SM, I would always get the jump on my opponent in world pvp and the battlegrounds. There is also using FD > SM in PVE, which is almost godly for soloing instances. If that can be used for PVP, well, that's even better! The problem is my playtimes are erratic and I really don't want to start over, but ITS DRIVING ME NUTS.

I think I just need to test drive a lvl 60 NE hunter, get my SM fun fix and then move on. I'm worse than my wife - I CANT MAKE UP MY MIND!

Ehh i cant say i ever felt that way.
Shadowmeld does look good and all, but there is NO WAY im rolling a night elf hunter and becoming the bad side of the hunter statistic (Im just kidding guys!), Honestly though there are just too many of them. And now that the shadowmeld/aimed shot has been nerfed, and most importantly aimed shot has been nerfed, why not just use the instant cast, arcane shot.

Not worth it in my OP!

Night elves are by racials more offensive, SM + Arcane + Conc + Aimed in a bush.

Dwarves are great, if YOU get jumped stoneform = godly.

Usually I'd jsut think, sure NE get shadowmeld, but +5 gun skill is so much better. But wi the patch changes I'm not so sure.

I have to say I've never been a fan of shadowmeld. Maybe it's jsut that I've never seen it done effectively. I hear a lot of talk of what you can do with it, but it works differently than you think. The fact that you can't move while shadowmeld is the major issue.

In WSG during the inital charge I sometimes see priests/hunters/warriors go shadowmeld near the frontlines hoping to get some surprise attack in and that we will underestimate their force. Everytime the horde side just stops at the front line and lets the few impatient alliance charge way past their SM'd allies and we start to slaughter them while their SM'd allies start to see that they need to go help. Then the remaining SM allies charge us and they die because of lack of numbers. SM is a great horde racial here, splits up the alliance perfectly.

As far as pvp benefit goes I'm sure they are some ways to make good use of SM if you are not one of the many NE hunter idiots that I see (which you are Webjunky^^), but I never hear of anything spectacular.

And dwarves will always be cooler than NE. No way around that one.

Being far too many NE hunters is what made me roll dwarf. That and dwarves are just plain cool, like an old drinking buddy :)

I don't care too much for the looks of the male NE either, but damn, that SM ability just seems so fun.

At least with dwarf I'm forced to stay on my toes a bit more I guess.

My friend is a 60 Dwarf Hunter cause I told him to be one ... He was new to the game and I made the choice for him. Was it the right choice? I'm not 100% sure. However I can tell you that there are very cool ways to use Stoneform (well, maybe not "cool" but extremely effective especially against a Rogue who blinds you!).

The +5 gun skill doesn't hurt either... not to mention Treasure Hunter! (which actually helped my Dwarf Priest find quite a few chests, one having an epic in it!)

Don't worry about it. SM is cool, yes, but not worth rerolling.

Haha, yea, that's why I wish I could just 'test drive' a 60 Nelf hunter just to have some fun... and then continue playing my dwarf, because I really do love playing the dwarf - I just think it would be really cool to use SM and I want to try it.

It's not like you can move around with Shadowmeld on. I really like my Hunter being a Dwarf. Stoneform is so useful for removing poison.

Sounds like you would enjoy stealthing around. Why not make a rogue alt (you could even be a Blood Elf Rogue in a couple weeks).

I have your same problem, but in a different aspect, at least mine can be amended very soon.

I have had this undying urge to roll a mage, but I'm holding out until TBC, so I can roll one with the absolutely fantastic caster racials that BE have. So, at least I can get my fix in about three weeks, good luck to you and your problem.

Lol Blizzard should not allow Rogue NE's IMO.

It's not so much that I want to stealth, well ok, it is, but it's not the same. Rogue play out much different than hunters.

With a hunter I can see you coming from a mile away with humanoid tracking, so I usually always see you before you see me. Put cat into prowl, shadowmeld and wait for that opportune time to release hell from a distance. A rogue has to close up on you... well, I prefer safety from afar. My cat does all the dirty work.

edit:

I'm definitely sticking with my dwarf. Got him to level 40, got the mount, set up a bunch of macros which basically condensed all of my action bars (I love the new macro system) and am enjoying the hell out of bestial wrath.
