This is just a short post to spread around a little tidbit of news. I know it should be in the Off-Topic forum, but I never go there. I will request that, instead of it actually being moved (if need be) ou just lock it... because the Off-Topic forum scares me.

I just wanted to inform everyone of an excellent revolution going on in the fight to prevent HIV/AIDS in Africa. It is called the (Product)RED movement.

Several companies, such as Apple, Gap, Converse, Motorola, Armani and American Express are participating (with many more involved!)

For every (PRODUCT)RED product you buy from these companies, they will donate money to the fund to fight AIDS. The usual rate seems to be about 50% of profits, with items like a $49.99 (PRODUCT)RED RAZR donating $17.00 to the cause.

Are you getting a new credit card soon from American Express? Get the red one!

Are you running into a store to get a quick shirt, for fun or fashion? Get the red one!

This Christmas, I recieved an iPod nano from my parents. Now, they told me to pick the one I wanted (within reason of course, no $600 purchases or my father would have gone for a Playstation 3 pre-order or a Wii).

I am going to be honest, I really wanted the iPod video. But, with my beautiful new (PRODUCT)RED iPod nano, I actually feel like the money was well spent on others, not just on me.

Everyone can do their part!

And some other humanitarian aid programs that might interest you are:

(Save Darfur program, focusing on an area of Africa where there is currently a huge genocide happening).

Well, there you have it everyone! Make of it whatever you wish.

May you all have the happiest holidays possible.

Bravo, I am amazed no one bumped this. I got my friend a RED: Razr? I forgot what type. And hell, if it wasn't for PRODUCT: Red I wouldn't even know whats going on.

Let's see.

Gap has a whole (PRODUCT) RED collection for women as well as men. They also have accessories.

Even if you don't like red, they have made products of other colors that sport the logo so as to open up the campaign to all tastes.

Motorola has a whole line of (PRODUCT) RED phones.

American Express has their (PRODUCT) RED credit card, through which they dedicate 1% of all money spent using their card! This amounts to QUITE a lot of money in the long run.

Armani does what they do best-- fashion-- while still maintaning their red dedication through their specific lines of cloths and accesories.

Converse has a variety of (PRODUCT) RED shoes for sale, but my personal favorite option is the "Design a shoe" option. He he he.

Apple offers their shiek (Product) RED iPod nano (with free engraving).

I think that is about it at the moment...

Yes even though our country has many problems on its own there are people out there that really need our help, and using pop-culture (product: red) is an absolutely genius way to help support/market humanitarian efforts. I'm currently getting my pre-med degree and before I enter into med school I plan on joining the Peace Corps, the girlfriend is pissed but she can come with or stay behind because this is something that I really want to do.

I have purchased some of the RED products just because of the cause not because I needed more stuff god forbid....but great stuff for a great cause.

Rate up for bringing this to people who may have not known about it.

To play the devil's advocate and start an discussion:

Im always sceptical about the effectiveness of these kind of orginizations. Ive been to south africa with a friend who studied there for a year, had a discussions with local people he got to know about HIV/AIDS and these solutions offered by RED are a $200,- plaster on a festering wound. Only thing it does is make western people sleep better at night.

Ive been to public schools there and you see 6-12 yo kids with the white dots on their faces everywhere, the majority of the black population has HIV.
The sex culture in africa is very different from our own, there its pretty normal to have sex with youre coffee instead of a biscuit. (overexerated, but for our western standards it is)

Instead of giving "AIDS slowing" medication and free tests (funny thing is, after they know they have HIV they still dont change their sexual behavior) theyd be better off handing out free condoms and giving sex education to children, fight the cause not the effect n all.
But they cant bc of christian beliefs and orginizations.
I think theyd better save up the money until they can provide a proper solution after they losen the grip of christian religion.
Or use the money to build public community farms or reverse osmosis water purification plants.

As it is now "the war on aids" stands in the same category as the war on drugs and the war on terrorism. Fighting the effect instead of the cause doesnt ever work.

They should drop the HIV/AIDS stuff and focus on malaria and tuberculosis work they do which can be cured and vaccinated against.
But HIV/AIDS sells and brings in the big charity bucks so i dont really blame them. Talking about popular culture...

Thank you and good night ;)
