alright, I was just wondering if i got a new pet (at lvl 40), would all the training points I previously had stay the same for my new pet? Or do they only get training points for leveling up? In fact, how do they get the training points?

New pets start at zero training points. You will earn up to the maximum as he gains loyalty and experience.

The formula for available training points is:
PetLevel*(LoyaltyLevel-1)

So, at level 40 with a loyalty level of 1 (just tamed) it has 0 training points. (Minus any spent for innates). When it hits loyalty level 1, it will have 40 training points (again, minus any it already has).

There are 6 levels of loyalty, so the max TP a pet can have at 60 (for now at least) is 300.

60*(6-1) = 60*5 = 300

Just a heads up...once u train a new pet, feed it fast, sinc your pet will actually lose trainingpoints as long as it is unhappy :D

My last pet ended at -9 TP before i got enough food in him to get him happy ;)

Thanks for the formula it helps a lot but I have two questions. Does that mean if you tamed a mob that was level 60 you would get no training points? Also, would taming something several level lowers than you be a good idea in order to get additional training points?

The points come back from Loyalty at least. It took my pet exactly One level from 42-43 to regain all current training points, and go from loyalty level 1 to Best Friend lvl 6.

Sorry - Don't know about lvl 60 pets - but i do know that you do NOT need to get exp for your pet to gain loyalty. I was standing in an INN last night and my pet dinged loyalty 6.

That is incorrect. Training points are not based on the pet's happiness level but on the formula cafeen provided. PetLevel * (LoyaltyLevel - 1)

A pet tamed at level 60 will have the same amount of training points when it gains loyalty level 6 as a pet tamed at 10 and leveled to 60 at loyalty level 6.

Total Training Points Available = Pet's Level * (Loyalty Level - 1)

if you are out fighting with your pet while making sure to feed him to keep him hapy then his loyalty will increase much much faster than just standing around.

If you tamed a pet with an ability already (either racial i.e. prowl, or bite/dash/claw/cower ranks), the cost of the ability will be taken out from the start. So it's not uncommon to tame a pet and see negative TP available.
