Question about Power LevelingFollow

#1 Dec 25 2006 at 6:58 AM Rating: Default
This is a topic that may strike a nerve with many of you guys, and I can understand why. However, I am more curious about the consequences, as oppposed to the opinions.

A group of my RL friends and I play WoW together, have a vent channel, etc. We quest/instance/PvP/grind/make alts with each other nightly, and now we have a friend who wants to dive in. The problem is, with TBC coming out, he hears us talking about grinding from 60 to 70 and such, and he knows he won't be able to be level 60 by the time the expansion comes out. He has been looking into the power leveling services where you pay a website to level you. He has asked us all about this, and none of us have any idea, seeing how we haven't used anything along those lines, and we know no one who has.

So my question is, is it risky to use these? Is there a good chance of being banned? Is there a site that is "reputable" or "secure/safe"? Any information or experience you have with this type of thing is appreciated.

Thanks

You aren't going to get much help here as only trash players use powerleveling services and buy gold, so you should probably tell your "friend" not to even think about cheating.

Power leveling is a bad idea on many levels.

It is cheating.

The user is robbed of the fun of leveling his character. He also has no idea of how to play his class, or group roles. He therefore becomes a detriment to any group he joins.

He misses out on class specific quests, and ends up with a sub-par character (gear and talents) and no idea of how or where to upgrade them.

He gets the quick is good, why not buy gold, why not pay someone else to play my character attitude.
'

If all the fun in the game is at lvl 60, then why the heck am I playing my mage? Answer... Leveling IS a large part of the fun. How about your group of friends start some draenei or blood elf and help each other level?

IMO.... when you power level to 60 you will no nothing about your class... unless you have played one properly before...

Anyway, i would tell your friend to level normally, its more fun, if he wants a 60 character just to level with you guys it seems as if he doesnt really care about the game and more so just wants to play with you.

Okay well I think I should just clear a couple of things up. My friend doesn't care if he seems like a "trash" player. You are right, he wants a 60 character simply to play with us. He will be grouping with us a majority of the time, and I am confident we can help him play his class sufficiently.

We are all going to be starting new characters when the expansion comes out, but we aren't going to lvl them from 0-70 as fast as possible. We will spend some time playing them, but I know much of our focus will be on getting to 70, seeing the new features, and the new instances.

So I guess i'm asking more along the lines of the following questions.

Will my friend get banned?
Is there any site that you could recommend?
If this forum isn't the place to ask, IS there a good place to ask?
Have you had any experience with paying someone to help your account?

How you feel about the morality of doing this is irrelevant. I agree with all of you that it is dumb, wrong, boring, takes fun out of the game, etc. You are correct in that aspect. However, my friend is okay with that, as he simply wants to play with us. Please don't mention these things, as I am on you guys' side on that issue.

If blizzard finds out he got power leveled, yes he will get banned. It is against the ToS to let anybody else use your account unless it is your child. So, do so at your own risk. Most of the power leveling services also use your account to help sell gold, which is also illigal.

And as already mentioned, this isn't the site to ask about such things, as most people here look down on power leveling/gold buying....so I doubt you'd get much help here as to what web service to use or to share their experiences with you.

Your best bet is to just have your friend make a new character, and just help him on his journey to level 60+

Your friend is going to have to give:

1) his account information
2) electronic billing information

to someone that is operating in at best a grey area of law ... and you have to ask? For added fun, he will be hoping that they don't use anything apt to get him banned after he gets his nice, shiny character back.

Consequences = lost money (not limited to money paid for 'service'), lost time if the 'service' doesn't deliver, unable to play if Bliz bans him because he was run as a bot. None of them are good.

So, if he is someone that you want to play with, help him level. You did mention "make alts" as an activity, right?

Ni hao! No problem, I can get you fixed up with just what you need. Write to this address: billing@blizzard.com. There is a guy their who has an in. Tell 'em you want "the Egress" so he know's your 1337. I'm sure we can match any price you've been offered, but you have to be very clear that you want to buy power leveling services and what price you are offering. That way I know you aren't working for Bliz and trying to trap me -- you can't do that if you are work for them. lol.

It's cool, X-mass is coming. They will just think you are a student that got out early. No one will care.

You got rox!! Remember, you need "the Egress!" They will make sure you get what you need.

Your friend should be banned for seeking a powerlevelling service and you and the rest of your crew should be banned for supporting it. For this is the very reason we are spammed every 5 to 15 minutes in all zones including battlegrounds, about gold sales and powerlevelling, and many of us recieve two or three in game mails a day related to this garbage too.

Be gone.

More specifically,

But, this doesn't matter either since you and your friends are all trash players anyway for seeking an illegitimate, cheating means to an end anyway.

Yes, there is a very good chance he will get banned. And it won't just be that one toon, it'll be his entire account. Blizzard does large bannings of accounts, and this is one of the services they try to ban. What's funny is they wait and ban them in large chunks, they may wait til you have your toon back.

And yeah, its not a brilliant idea to give out your account information to such a service either. You can change your password, but you can't ever change your user name. That's just 1 thing of 2 someone trying to compromise your account needs. It's a company that makes its money by cheating, you can't exactly count on them to act ethically.

Also, any shady mods they use while leveling you so quickly can also get you banned, temporarily or permenantly. Leveling companies also have a habit of using your toon to farm gold, which is another suspicious activity.

While there's no guarantee they'll notice, your friend will REALLY be far from 60 if they yank his account, and he'll be out the cash.

If you look on the WoW main page and scroll down a bit, you will see in the news section that Blizzard banned about 105 THOUSAND accounts recently. These accounts violated the TOS for various reasons, including using 3rd party programs, selling gold, power leveling and yes, even buying gold and USING the power leveling services.

Blizzard can and will ban any accounts associated with the IP addresses of power levelers.

Another thing, he would be giving up his account name and password to a stranger halfway across the world. Not every power leveling service is legit and a lot of people have been scammed before. Even if he does get his toon to 60, that power leveler will still be able to view his account details on the official website, including email address, mailing addresses and his secret question. Therefore, even if he were smart enough to change his password after word... the power leveler would know his secret question to recover said password. Something to think about.

Just don't do it. If your friend does do it anyway, don't access your account from his house or let him access his own account from YOUR house. I suggest not associating your IP address with his account AT ALL and vice versa.

Consequences will be terrible especially for a new player introtuced to WoW, also I might suggest for your "friend" to wait for you guys to get to 70 and then re-roll some new class/race together by starting out together all along.
Power leveling is just skipping through all the experience us regular players had being through years.

Tell him to play more and level faster :)

My Rogue is 46 as of a few mins ago, was 29 six days ago, and will be 60 by Jan 4. I've never leveled nearly this fast before - tell him to check out http://wow-pro.com/node/601 Jame's leveling guide.

PowerLeveling is cheating. If you're caught, you lose the whole account.

There's no need to cheat, as the poster above says - use the quest guides and assist your friend to complete the hardest quests available at his level, and he'll be 60 within about 2 weeks. (I soloed my shammy to 40 in 2 weeks, and wasn't even playing him that often)
