I am always sorry to hear of someone having financial loss do to a scam or criminal act. Your story serves as a wake-up call for the rest of us.

I'll start by saying PayPal serves a huge audience and for the most part does it well. However, I haven't used PayPal in a while. For my part, I logged on and made sure I did not keep a bank account on file, and deleted any credit card. There is no need for them to have that info onhand when I so infrequently use the service. When I do use it, I just give a credit card, never a bank account, no matter how much they ask for that information.

yeah and it isnt til after my financial loss and i looked up a few google things and i see it has happened to many others not just me and the same situation and paypal does nothing to protect you or refund your money unless its over $1500

i just googled paypal hacked and saw very many similar horror stories about paypal
it really is sad.. its a good thing i only had about $200 alot of other ppl lost in excess of $1000 and like i said paypal's fraud team doesnt look into it very well unless its $1500 or more.. which explains my "oh were sorry we cant do anything for you" email

seems like their more concerened about the financial situations of their wealthy users and not the common man

but i think my biggest mistake was the fact that my paypal password is the same password i use in any/all forums /websites so anywebsite i visited ever could have been responcible for this

in the end it really is my own fault for not makeing a more secure password

I just closed my account and removed all credit cards and bank numbers. I have heard way too many horror stories about pay pal. Just not worth it.

Also do some good scans for keyloggers. I don't think we came up with exactly how someone got in. Use your normal anti-virus and anti-spyware apps, and maybe another reputable free online virus scan, like you can find at www.bitdefender.com and others.

If Pay Pal will not do anything then contact the Credit Card you had on Pay Pal and them investigate. The Credit Card companys generaly do not care what the Dollar ammount was, if you file a complaint about a transaction they will have to investigate it.

Try that route.
