money at 42Follow

#1 Dec 23 2006 at 11:27 AM Rating: Good
toon: 42 dwarf hunter with 1.2 AS cat with growl/dash/bite/claw
Server: Proudmoore, Normal type
Professions: Mining and Skinning(keeping ores till expac hits to hopefully sell at high for jewelcrafting first week, skinning is sometimes more profitable to sell at vendor then AH)
questing: no chains currently, pretend i don't really have any quests to do(they get boring sometimes and this is one of those times)
Problem: not enough money for buying things I want AND need. Once i save money up a little i end up using it on food/water/repairs

Please don't say sell wool at 1g a stack, my server sells them for 20-40 silver all the time and isnt worth the time.

Instances: Gone to Uldamon once or twice but other then that not much my level, the new LFG system has made it very hard to find a good group under 30 minutes to an hour(as in not having a priest think hes a DPS toon or a Hunter never use his gun/bow).

Well, you are sort of hamstringing yourself by not selling your ores/bars, thus cutting down on a major source of money that you could be making. Another thing you could be doing is to pick up fishing, there is some good money in that once you get to a decent skill level.

Yea, fishing would be a good way to hold you over until xpac. Level up a bit and start catching Oily Blackmouths, then when you get to about 150+ i think you can start fishing with a lure to catch stonescale eels. Also, if you can manage to get the deviate delight recipe and the skill needed for it (not very hard to skill up if you dont already have it) you can go sit in WC fishing for Deviate Fish to turn them into Deviate Delights, which sell for a bit. Even uncooked they may sell for a lot. You can fish for them inside of WC (the actual instance) so that people wont gank you outside.

well earning money is always server dependent, so find out what sells and sell it. collect EVERYTHING even grays and SELL them.

it is not hard to earn a few gold per night in the right areas off of just grays let alone those nice greens and blues that drop from time to time.

for coin go farm SM Graveyard as a 42 hunter you should be able to solo the entire instance and even if you can not take on the boss yet, you should though, you can still get plenty of coin, greens, grays, and if you are lucky the rare blue drops from in there.

getting money at your level is so simple. heck i got lucky the other night with my 41, now 42 warrior. i went from less then 5s up to 65g in 24hr real time, not game time. i sold a few blues in the AH, multiple greens, and had some very nice runs in SM Cath, and Ulda.

more levels = easier to get money. that has not changed since EQ, and doubt it will change in any MMO to come any time soon.

Yes, fishing. It does several things for you:

1. In conjunction with cooking, it solves a drain on your resources: You won't have to buy food.

2. Pet food. Many pets can eat fish, either raw or cooked. WHen you get high enough level, you'll find that Lightning Eels make great petfood.

3. Gold! Money Fish are: Deviate Fish; Firefin Snapper; Oily Blackmouth; and Stonescale Eels. All sell well at the AH. You also come across debris pools which contain chests of many sellable items.

4. Relaxation. Most fishing spots are free from mobs that might attack you. If you are on a PvP server, you'll still need to keep watch for the opposing faction. For the most part, though, it's sitting back and relaxing while waiting for the bobber to splash.

Run VC. Make an enchanter alt. Send all green to it and DE them to sell the mats. I make pretty good money doin this.

Sorry, but that's the stupidest way to feed a disenchanter. A great many people put things into the auction house for lots less that the disenchant value. A VC run gets you only a few disenchantable items. A half-hour at the AH gets you hundreds, and you can vendor the mats for double what you paid. You realize that you also have to level the disenchanter and his disenchanting skill, don't you? The days of having a Level 1 disenchanter are over.

Until i found a bud in my guild that we use as our Disenchanting person. I would trust the person with 1000g to hold for a day to a year!

levelling a toon to 20 and raising the skill to 225 is a fairly trivial task, but it still takes some time from your main.

To DE the lvl 15-20 drops from VC you don't need a maxxed out enchanting skill you need like a 50. The greens you get aren't the only money you get from running the instance. Running it 4 times an hour you might get a gold just in coins. Cloth drops, even at the OP's reduced sell price, along with vendor trash and BoP greens and blue, can get you between 2-3g an hour. Thats not amazing money, buts its no risk money.

If I want no-risk money, I'll go fishing and get 30-50G/hour. Low-level Instances aren't worth it for gold. The only reason I run VC is to get a quick ego boost and payback. "Hello, Victor. My name is Florisant. You killed my L16 toon. Prepare to die."

I have recently started selling stacks of lower level enchanting mats on my enchanting alt and they sell very well. A stack of strange dust or Greater magic essences both sell for 2g a stack buyout. So if you can run Deadmines a lot then DE all of the greens and sell the mats. Other than that, cloth sells well and the gathering professions do well.

Wailing Caverns is the best low-level instance to run solo, if skinning is one of your skills. You can get literally tons of light and medium leather out of it, along with a few greens. I've had to dump vendor trash and light leather stacks for medium leather or greens, and that's with all 16-slot bags that I started empty. I normally get 5-6 gold out of WC. It's more lucrative than VC or SFK, but only if you're a skinner.

That's not mentioning deviate scales and perfect deviate scales. (The perfect ones go for 1g each on HORDE side, never mind Alliance side. PvP server, too.)

Also, keep an eye on what events/event quests are around - I made almost 30g from auctioning small eggs during the winter veil time.

It's a good idea to scan the auctionhouse once in a while, and just learn how to play it. (shouldn't take too much time out of normal playing time)

Am I the only one who noticed that some posters in this thread are named alike?

Milcontwo
Milconfive

Is there a new fad that I am unaware of?

BTW... at L.42.. what do you need? (why are you needing money)

Yeah, you are holding yourself back by stockpiling your mining stuff.

Another thing to think about is that TBC is supposed to be released in roughly 3 weeks, so whatever you think you "need" now might be able to hold off til then.

Also, in the 3 weeks that you are waiting for TBC you could be gaining levels, and since no one "needs" UBER gear you shouldnt need money for gear right now.

Try grinding the Naga in STV, they are lvl 42-44 and will help you level. They have a few quests in Booty Bay that you can complete by killing them. You can fish for oily blackmouths and stonescale eels while you are there, and the naga themselves sometimes drop some nice greens and coin as well.

Since you are a skinner, you can also kill all the cats and raptors in that area too, but be ready for the gankfest.
