This is my first WoW Christmas. I'm wondering how you get presents. I've seen a couple of people in the trade channels asking for swaps. And reading the special occasions quests it says something about getting presents as well from under the tree in Ironforge.

How can I unwrap some of that holiday WoW funness?

Their are three quests to get involved in fun. Talk to the goblins next to father Christmas and they will give you them. One is talk to Father Christmas who will ask for milk and cookies. Another is to find and kill the Greench, another is to rescue a reindeer.

As for the presents under the tree you have to wait til Dec 24 to open them. And no peeking.

I picked up the quests.. which at this point are too high lvl for my characters. And I can just see the scene come Christmas Eve when I ditch the family dinner and run to my computer to open virtual presents. That will be a great day ;)

First, go to the inn. You'll see two people dressed up in christmas costumes, that normally aren't there. Select the female (I guess the male works too, but I just never would type /kiss to a male char, be it player or NPC) and type /kiss. You'll receive either 5 Preserved Holly (changes your mount into a reindeer) or 5 Mistletoe (Can cast on a friendly unit, but not yourself, for a small spirit bonus). You'll get a one hour debuff that does nothing but prevent you from doing it again.

Then go visit Grandfather Winter who has a quest for you. He's next to the bank in Ironforge. I have no idea where to find him in Orgrimmar. Complete the cookie quest, which requires you to buy some stuff from the goblin NPC's as well, iirc. There's another quest close by about the missing reindeer, but that one takes you to a higher level zone (should be ok if you're around 40). The third quest is walking around half the city from one NPC to another with some book. Easy quest.

When Grandfather Winter takes his leave, the presents will stay around for a little longer, lootable if you did the quests, but they're level based.

Added: Don't stare yourself blind on the level of the quests. They're absurdly high so that lvl 60s can still see the exclamation marks. One of them is perfectly doable at level 1, and they all give a nice boost in XP. Don't miss out on them.

You don't have to loot the presents directly on the eve of December 24. They'll stick for a little while.

That's actually kind of sad.. You should put your family above a game man.. but hey, to each their own. I can't dictate your actions.

Actually Gotwa... I was totally being sarcastic, but thanks for the family reminder. But after more than a few years of the same holiday "traditions" I don't think it's that big a deal. Besides I'll wait until "not a creature is stirring, not even a mouse"...

As for the quest response... I'll give it a shot. Although I thought I saw one that had you running through Burning Steepes or Tanaris for the reindeer freedom act.

My apoligies then. :) I wasn't trying to sound harsh, and I know the traditions get old, but this year, I'm spending christmas day without my family, and it already feels weird to me, and I'm on vacation with them as we speak. Hope it's fun for you man. Besides, after dinner.. it's fair game.. ;)

Yes, the male NPCs do the same. And yes I often have my male characters blow the male NPCs a kiss and both get hearts over their heads. I find if amusing.

Those NPCs will not give preserved holly. That is the quest reward for rescuing the reindeer. They might give out regular holly, which will eventually expire, but I only seem to get mistletoe.

The cookie quest is the low level quest. Its fun to do and you get some food stuffs for a reward. Just don’t blow a gold buying the cookies from someone else. That rather defeats the fun of it.

The reindeer quest is, in my opinion, the hardest one to do as you have to pull several mobs in their low 40s, unless someone has cleared the way for you. This quest gets you about 500 goblin rep and 5 persevered holly, as well as an offer for more preserved holly via the machine behind the goblins for a cost of 5 gold.

The other quest given by the goblins is to save a shipment of food for the holiday. This will take you to the snow yeti above Southshore. You have to talk to a snowman there. He will then give you a quest to kill an elite yeti. The reward for this quest is a random holiday pattern. Later you’ll get a snowman kit in the mail that lets you turn into a snowman and it requires a snowball to use.

These is another NPC with a quest. In IF he is standing at the foot of the stairs near the wagon next to the bank. He will give you a quest that explains what the holiday is all about. It gives some nice IF reputation and takes all of two minutes to do once you know where to find the other NPCs.

The gifts under the tree can be opened whether or not you did any of the quests. Last year the call for gifts did not go out until about the 25th. The goblin has jumped the gun this year and it’s causing confusion. The gifts are indeed level restrictive. A level 60 will get to open several gifts. One or two of the mid range gifts were non-combat pets last year. These require a snowball to use. So if you get one be sure to save a few stacks of snowballs if you want to use the pet throughout the year.

@ Gotwa.... No worries. No offense taken. Have yourself a very fun, albeit weird holiday :)

@ Calabar.... Thank you for that very concise summary of the events. Much appreciated. That should answer all my questions.

I'm trying to figure out if I'll be able to explain an AV weekend to my family. ;)

CURSE YOU BLIZZ FOR PUTTING AN AV WEEKEND ON CHRISTMAS WEEKEND!

Has anyone else had a problem getting the cookie quest from greatfather winter? I can talk to him, but he has no quest for me. I submitted a GM ticket, and they said they knew about it yada yada, but that was days ago and I still can't get the quest.

Not a big deal really, but I wanted to know if anyone else apparently made his naughty list. :P

I am wondering if you can't open gifts if you did it last year. I haven't found a single clickable gift this year, even after the goblins shout that Whoshisface has put them under the tree, and it makes me a sad clown.

Have you tried talking to the goblins next to the tree? I believe you get the quest to talk to Greatfather Winter from one of them.

However, I have noticed some bugs with the quests as well. Some of my characters that have done these quests the two years before are not offered the yeti quest. They can get the cookie and the reindeer quests, just not the Greench quest. I too submitted a ticket. They are aware of the problem and are working on it… Oh well, they already have the snowman kit. But it would be nice to get another random pattern.

To the best of my knowledge nobody has been able to open gifts yet. I expect we won’t be able to until the 25th.
