But is everyone and their friend running around in epic PvP shoulders these days?

Why the shoulders?

I've noticed that too. I guess because the shoulders look cool. /shrug

They're probably the most visible piece and they only cost 12k?

I dunno.

Just looks absolutely ridiculous when a guy in random blues and greens runs around with epic Grand Marshal/High Warlord shoulders.

To be honest, I think they overdid it a bit. By the time they launch the expansion, people will be decked in GM/HWL gear.

I'm sure this weighed heavily on the developers minds. But, too many people were crying for teh epix.

Watch, when the expansion hits everyone will be complaining that it's too easy to get this high end gear.

Gives everyone a few levels worth of good gear, keeps people happy, keeps their customers.

Almost worked on me. But at this point, I'm almost looking for an excuse to play again, and looking harder for reasons not to.

To get away from subject yet to stay on topic...

Anyone else see alot of duo mage teams grinding? One frost the other fire ofcourse. I remember seeing this one pair on my horde alt in the barrens at level 20, same level at the time as my alt. Two weeks later I am questing my main in eastern PL, on my way to defend one of the towers when low and behold who do I see at level 58, none other then the mage pair.

Since then I've been seeing mage duo teams around leveling, both factions. This a new trend?

Or...

When I first ran into those two back during the barrens quests, I would see them quite often. I don't know why but I put them in my friends list. They always sign on together, leave together. They are on alot.. I'd say at most 5 to 6 hours log off time. Maybe this is the gold sellers? Two weeks to crank out level 60 toons, in game alot... and I've been seeing more and more mage teams doing the same thing.

Well I can't speak for others, but I'm getting them because they're one of the cheapest HWL gear (I think) and yeah, the most "impressive" of the pieces. Flames dude, it's teh phire! And in my case, the HWL item that's the biggest improvement on my old shoulders.

My roommate got them because he liked how they look (and were the best upgrade for him). So yea, looks have a lot to do with it.

I have the AB shoulders so I took the helm instead.

But yeah - it's the looks and the price.

IMO it's sad to see rewards go to blue/green newbies, but I guess since the game is being set up to revolve around a L70 end-game, it doesn't really matter.

Agreed with the consensus of the thread, they're one of the cheapest pieces(and often one of the best). Definitely the first one I'm going for. Gonna definitely get that and the robe, we'll see if I bother getting any others, though.

And in the meanwhile most raiders quit the game, anyway on my server guilds are falling apart rapidly and a lot of the "establishment" stopped playing.
Remnants of guilds are fusing, its just if this is the day of the migration. (i play on an migration / relief server)

Mainly because they see their work as futile. Its stil a game n all but i think a lot of long time raiders are insulted by this move, makes having (achieving) a few NAX epics kinda empty, the carrot is shot, the shine is off PvE.
With a few other MMORPG's on the horizon personally dont think this move will do the WoW community any good. Its a great business move, but a lot of "smart players" are leaving the game rapidly.
I say smart player bc raider doesnt mean hardcore player, that isnt necessary for WoW endgame. My guild is almost all casual players (people with jobs and familys).
Just, fun, common sense people who want to experience PvE and get phat epix on the way.

I got more out of chatting / server guild soaps out of my "extra" month then the new PvP system :P

I might come back to WOW but itll be purely for the people i play with and ill definatly wait 2 months after expac release to see what happens and see how warhammer online turns out.

frankly, endgame epics make me laugh.

Seeing someone walk by in reindeer horns, and shoulderpads with dangly things and roughly phallic shaped crescents on the ends....priceless. XD

Yeah, everyone and their mother wears those shoulders now, it's terrible. Terrible not so much because they're so easy to get, but because people still feel oh so special once they wear them. Every now and then some guy in green with epic PvP shoulders walks through Stormwind screaming "Look at my shoulders!", obviously not realizing that he's far from being alone.

That alone is enough for me to definitely not go for the shoulders first. I've got my ranged GM weapon now, time to go for the two fist weapons. After that, if there still is time, it will be chest and legs, we'll see.

Oh and

Don't think so, at least not on my server. The only ones that are really making progress are the organized guilds. I wouldn't exactly call me a "true casual" gamer, and I have a pretty hard time obtaining the gear via unorganized PvP. I know I'll never make the whole set until BC. Most people will get fed up with it after they got their shoulders/weapon. You won't see any "greens" suddenly being equipped all in purple. Not going to happen. If they didn't have the endurance to run Strath/BRS/Scholo multiple times for their T0, they won't last through the PvP grind.

I don't think that's true, Ertrael.

Because PvP is fun every time. At least for me it is. Because your opponents are never the same and they don't act like the AI in the game.

I got sick and tired of farming for my Tier 0 gear when I had done UBRS ten times without a single Lightforge drop. I'm still grinding PvP, not as much because I want to get the epics that'll be outdated in a month, but because it's fun.

That I have epic gear within my reach only makes it so much more exciting. I now have something to look forward to from my efforts in the battlegrounds. With the old honor system I knew I would never become a Grand Marshal and it kinda bummed me out because I wanted some of the items you get at that rank.

Now I can just play, have fun and gather honor. Once I have enough, I'll buy that damn Grand Marshal weapon and achieve something I had never dreamed of doing. Even if it means I have to share the moment with the rest of the server population.

The only thing that worries me is that my level 40 Warlock might not stand a chance in hell if the entire Horde side is decked in PvP epics. I can just see what happens when people are done gathering their epics. Ganking time.

Oh well, at least they'll all run off to Outlands once the expansion hits.

Okay, I admit I might have generalized the topic a little to much. Of course there are people like you (and me, I guess) who genuinely enjoy the PvP experience. If I didn't, I'd never have taken the grind to Rank 10. But I think no-one really has a problem with people like us getting the PvP epics (well, okay, a few might).

All I ever hear is that now every noob who has never even touched PvP so far can get GM Gear. And I reply: not likely. Of course, after the patch, every other level 60 player joined the PvP crowd in hope for "free epix". But at least on my server people who do not like PvP begin to realize that even now this gear isn't really "free"*. And a lot of the guys I regularly play with only started BGing because of the gear. Now I hear them constantly groaning about how much of a chore this is. They're gonna get "just this one more item" and then quit PvP forever.

So, in my opinion, epic PvP gear will stay mainly with the PvPers, which is not a bad thing. Although I can understand that the previous GMs and HWLs are not happy with the situation, I do think that everyone who likes to PvP should be able to get the best PvP gear eventually**. So I'm pretty much happy. And the novelty of the shoulders will wear off, too, I guess :).

*this only applies to "casuals" without a premade PvP group, of course. In a T2+ geared group you can get the PvP epics in no time, even if you hate PvP.

** And yes, I am aware that GM/HWL gear will only be the "best" PvP gear until the expansion hits the shelves.

I wonder how much honor is needed for the level 70 PvP rewards. Perhaps I should start saving for it now...

102,400 honor points and 120 AV marks for the level 70 shoulders. Now, that'd be a laugh.

Apparently at the moment only the blue 70 gear is up in the 5 piece slots we use at the moment.

The purple 70 gear is supposed to be the wrist/waist/boot slots to fill in for the spots the gladiator gear misses, along with the necks/rings/trinkets you can buy normally. For the 3 epic slots the total is 55k honour, source.

Quote:

There are epic boots, belts and bracers PvP rewards - the three armor pieces not covered by the 5-piece Gladiator sets.

Three pieces will cost you 40 AB marks, 20 WSG marks, 40 EotS marks, and 55875 honor.

There are also epic PvP reward cloaks. 20 AB marks and 13875 honor.

My question, Wouldn't it be smarter to pvp grind and save all the stuff for the lvl 70 pvp gear?

Come BC, they'll lose their edge. My friend played the beta and at 64 or so, he was finding greens that were superior to Nax gear.
#25 Dec 19 2006 at 5:01 AM Rating: Default
Dude please..
Why you guys have any trouble with ppl with greens and GM weapon / gear.
They worked hard for it, they deserve it.
From what I see, the ppl that complain about them so much is ppl who have half of T0-T2 gears.. they've been raiding so many times, spent DKPs so much (if your guild uses DKP), or been losing all the times on roll (on free roll guild), but suddenly BAM, almost all your gears, specially for weapons has been outgeared by casual players.
Cmon guys the new honor system allowed them.. ermmm allowed US to do that.
And I'm 99% sure the Devs already think about this too.
This GM gear will become obselete on TBC, bliz has given most players some preparation (gears term) to face TBC.
If you can't accept this new system, then cancel your account. Play something else, except you're the one who pay $15 for that "GM gear but rest green gears" guy.

self-introspection guys.. ego much??

i actually like it for non-60 gearing. I recently restarted playing my rogue on Anetheron and instead of farming RF to get coldrage, I farmed WSG and picked up scout's blade.

Then I grabbed the ring, sergeants cape and pretty soon I'll get the neck piece from WSG and once I'm ready to progress again out of the 39 bracket then I will grab the epic lvl 40 bracers.

I find it alot more fun than grinding instances for gear and the rewards in some cases are better.
