BC expansion to level the playing field?Follow

#1 Dec 04 2006 at 5:56 PM Rating: Decent
Well I have been told numerous times that the ratio of Horde to Alliance is 1:3
I have also heard that tons of people are going to make a Blood Elf Character, although I have heard few will make a Dranei. I am also speculating that at least 95% of people think the Blood elves are a more attractive character to play as. So do you think BC has some meaning to level out the playing field?

I think Blizzard is trying to level the playing field in a lot of ways with BC. Yes, i think a lot more people will roll blood elves over Dranei, especially kids, who gravitate toward "pretty" races (no condescent here, just callin' how I sees 'em). The fact is that the reason there are so many more allys than horde is that 1: kids want to play the "good guys" and 2: kids want to play "pretty" characters like NEs or Lord of the Ringsy characters like dwarves or humans. By "kids" i mean early to mid teens. Blizzard has the facts on this, so they're making the blood elves to try to balance it out. However, a lot of kids will still roll ally because their friends are allys.
Another way blizzard is trying to level the playing field is making pallys and shammys playable by both factions. This will be interesting, as it will create a lot more competition and demand for plate and mail armor on both sides, pre- and post-40. This will also hurt the horde slightly more, because the shammy has proved to be a better PvP class than the pally. Again, Blizz knows who wins AB 80% of the time, and they are trying to even it out.
Lastly, BC is an attempt to correct for class unevenness at 60. At 60, feral druids get gimped, and warriors become arguably the most powerful class. In tests, I have heard that the post-60 rage generation GREATLY favors druids over warriors. This of course may be fixed by the time BC hits, as well as the allegedly overpowering 70 mage.

Maybe, but I dont think BE are enough to bring more people to horde. Not to add when kids play horde there normally ignored for being childish! Also the current Horde players picked thos races to play over NE so i doubt they'll all switch to BE. More so it might be likely that Horde players go Alliance to play Darineri or how every you spell it .lol.

I doubt that much will shift, but we will see. It doesn't matter how level the field is if one team has no skill. The new ladder system is oriented to permanent team play, so that will be dominated by skill players anyway (horde and horde playing their alliance alts). Personally, I think that if people play blood elves for cosmetic reasons, they will be laughed out of the faction. The horde has its own ambience and people play alliance because they want to be in that faction.

I think the biggest it would possibly change is the ratio would be more near Horde/Alliance at a 2:3 ratio. This of course is my only speculation and conclusion after reading post after post about the Blood Elves.

I personally will make a Blood Elf, not for any particular reason other than its a new face why not roll one with the class of a palladin. I know for a fact I'm not alone because many of the guys in my guild are doing the same, just because its a new race so you have to test drive it and then make your conclusion on hate or love only then.

But back to the point, I think the main reason you will see Draini's(sp?) on the field is A) Shamman's and B) the Tunak Tunak dance(FTW!) Which may either increase the Alliance population to stay 1:3 or give them an extra push over to Horde.

On warcraftrealms.com there is census data for nearly two million characters. They show about an even split between horde and alliance toons, and similar on-line activity between alliance and horde players actually playing the game. The alliance has a slight advantage.

I read a blue post somewhere that said that the numbers were roughly balanced already. I don't remember where I read it, but the available data seems to support that claim. Certainly there are servers that are unbalanced (out of dozens), but most servers are not lopsided.

If you had read the original post, you would have found that this thread is for speculation. Doh! And YES, feral druids get gimped at 60, YES shamans are a better pvp class than pallys (just play them and see), YES the post-60 rage generation favors feral druids, and YES 70 mages are throwing out far more dps than any other class. Read the developer journals my friend, and stop talking out of your ***.

And YES the TBC is still under testing and the whole game changes with time. So I would say YES doesn't matter how it is now there are best chances it will change.

Hmmmm, thats funny. To bad I beat shamans on my 60 paladin all the time, and its not like blowing LoH on the warrior tanking drek'thar will turn the battle or anything.

NO, all classes are good at pvp, if you play them right.

Beta is still very fluid. The talent trees that came out with the 2.0.1 patch don't match the talent trees in beta still. I thought it was interesting that they would release "beta" talents, but I guess they want to see what happens to play balance over the month before finalizing the gold build.
