Awsome, great news to hear! I'v saved up seven points and am itching to use a few. But every time I open the Talent page. I think back to my LoD days. So I rethink and exit page. Thanks for the good news!

Using a talent calculator can help you with deciding what you would like your final build to be, and how to get there.

Wowhead has a pretty nice one. Be careful to use the current talents, not the BC ones that are coming with the expansion.

Hi Shmii is new and would like to know what is best class and also what is best race? THX!

Kidding. Smiley: tongue

Have any of you been a long time FFXI player? In FFXI I can lvl a job to 75 in a few months. Some people take year or more. Depending on PT Invite popularity and what not. How long does it take to reach lvl 60 in WoW?

Shmii played FFXI for years and is 75 Ninja, Red Mage and Black Mage and finds that in WoW is harder to level because more attention of the player is required at all times especially on PVP server. In FFXI often when party is good xp session is like autopilot and xp comes so fast.

How do I turn guild chat off?

When I am in Battlegrounds I only want to see instructions from the leader or important information. Sometimes my overly chatty guild (which is a good thing) will go by so fast that I miss something. I want to really just turn them off while I am doing something.

OR the question is how do I make it so I only see one type of chat? Like if I am doing an instance and all I want to see is /p talk.

i have a question about groups. it seems like everytime i group with somone it becomes more of a hinderence then a help. everything is fine until we go into battle and then it becomes totally disorganized. i don't want to be bossy so i try to offer some polite suggestions, especially since i am only level 10 and i don't pretend to know all the dynamics of the game. how can i lead effectivly w/o others thinking i am an ***?

How big is the WOW world?

I started to swim in the sea but had to turn back when I got attacked by a much higher level creature. If I had carried on swimming straight out ahead would I have eventually ended up at the shore of another realm or ran in to an invisible shield stopping me going further?
#208 Oct 30 2006 at 7:06 AM Rating: Decent
When going far into the ocean there will be water that is too deep for you to swim in and you will get exhausted and die.
#209 Oct 30 2006 at 7:09 AM Rating: Decent
So it's not possible to swim out and end up in another place?

One option is to create a special BG chat window. Right click on the chat window tab and Create New Window.
Then, in this window, disable ALL the channels that aren't useful in BGs. Keep only Say, Yell, General, Party, Raid, etc... You would know better which ones to keep.

Now the other part of your question is how to disable some channels. Also, when you right click on the tab on top of the chat window, you get options to color the text of a certain channel, to join a channel, etc... Just uncheck the channels that you don't want.

That way you'll have a window for BG chat that you can put behind your regular windows, and when you're in BGs, you click on its tab to put it up front.

I do a similar thing with LookingForGroup, which is disabled on all my windows except the LFG window I created.

The two continents, Kalimdor and Eastern Kingdoms are each on a seperate "Mini Server" so swimming to one from the other is impossible. I have successfully reached the end of each ocean. I was swimming near orgrimmar one day and I decided to swim as far as I could. I swam into the deep part of the ocea and fatigue kicked in. I used a swimming potion to get me a little further out and I saw a white strip of sand. I died and ran to my body in wisp form then rezzed and used another potion.

I made it to the strip of sand and was able to run on it. That is where the end of Kalimdor is. One day when I was in Eastern Kingdoms the server crashed but I didn't get kicked. I knew the server crashed because no one in my party or guild was responding and I couldn't see any players or mobs. It didn't look like I was getting booted so I made the best of it. I ran to Menethil Harbor and jumped in the water. It took a while to swim to the end of the ocean but I finally reached it.

Here is a screenshot of me swimming to the end of the ocean west of Menethil Harbor. http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c32/arkain21/wow2.jpg

Well, there is no easy way to explain this....but essentially, it requires constructive critisism. When trying to get people to do something a certain you need to try suggesting things instead of demanding. Just try and be friendly and when you suggest something to someone, make it sound like it's something EVERYONE already is supposed to know. No one wants to look like an idiot, so sometimes, this will work. You'll get responses like "Yeah, I know, I was just <excuse>". The main thing is just be friendly about it. There's SO many times where I see someone screaming at someone else "WTF NOOB, WHY DID YOU PULL THAT WHOLE GROUP WITH YOUR PET?!?! WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU, L2PLAY". Instead of insulting them with what they did wrong, try telling them how to do it right.

No, you can swim to some places, but you cannot swim between continents. As noted above, if it's dark water there is no way to can swim across it (for an extended period of time) without dying. You can even die as a ghost going across this dark water. There might be some crazy way to exploit this or something, but by all normal means, it's impossible.

Next ? >> I thought I read that you can have up to 50 toons. Is this at a time or created? I have started probably 15 or so and deleted maybe 12 of them. Does this mean I have 35 left (50-15) or 47 left (50-3)?

I'm not exactly a newbie, I've just had some rather strange gaming experince. Like playing on a PVP server for the year BEFORE the Honor system was implimented. I'm extremely paranoid now, and many of my guildies find this extra funny. I was gone for a while though and I havnt been able to keep up with all the patch news. I'm re-discovoring parts of the game that have been drastically changed or downright added 'out of the blue' to me, so it's been an interesting trip (like the "wait, I can buy potions JUST for WSG?!" discussion I had with my guild leader yesterday).

Simple questions;

Me and my guildies are ******** around in WSG right now, trying to work out some tactics with eachother (We think we're pretty good, but we know we can be better). We usually que up as a group of three to five players but keep running across an odd problem. Any idea why one of our members would randomly be flagged as a Deserter? It seems to mostly be happening with people who havnt been in a BG before, but I'm not entierly sure. Ideas?

Akso;
We do NOT have a Vent server. We know they exist, but we dont really know how to get one running, and even if we did, most of us dont have headsets. Is there somewhere I can find a list of commonly used BG terms to tell the raid group and give non-guildies an idea of where I need support?

(I play a tactical defensive hunter, when I call for support and actually get it, we tend to win, but I'm having problems getting a certian point defended, etc...)

Random point of pointless intrest:

It takes about four hours to swim the length of one continent without druid's water form or any other speed boosting effects. I went looking for safe high level fishing spots on a PVP server one day.

I believe the total number of toons you can have across all servers is 40. This is 40 characters in existence, so if you delete characters they no longer count against your maximum. On a single server, the maximum number you can have is 10 toons.

Hope this helps.

Hope your ready for all of mine :D

1.) What is farming? I hear people talking about farming stuff and getting rich.

2.) When I unlearn a skill and pick a new one. If I wanna go back to my old skill I unlearned do I have to re-train it from level 1?

3.) Can you give me suggestions on improving my build/Talent? I'm only level 12 and I've only used 3 points but I'm very concerned on what I'm using these points on. I want to be the best in PVP for my level. I know I'm new but I wanna learn and be the best I can be no matter what I'm doing ( Rather be better in PVP than in PVE )
My current Talents: http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/rogue/talents.html?100000000000000020000000000000000000000000000000000

4.) I'm currently making my money using Herbalism & Skinning. So far it's working well and everyone is saying 'Good job on picking Herbalism it's good for making money" However. I'm concerned with what I should do with Skinning. Will Skinning ever become useless as I level up? I can see Herbalism making me loads no matter what level. But what about Skinning ? I've thought about switching from Skinning to Enchanting ( I love seeing glowing / enchanted weapons :D their so cool I'll love to make them! ). However I do know it's a very expensive skill but will it become more handy than Skinning?

So there's no confusion on my 4th question I basically wanna know:

.Once I'm rich enough from getting money from Herbalism + some Skinning should I drop Skinning for Enchanting and start using my money to train it and then let the money roll in when I enchant stuff :D ?

.Is Skinning worth dropping after I reach a higher level? ( Like 30 or so )

I'll have more questions soon hopefully. So much I'd love to know!

This is referring to killing Mobs repeatedly, usually seeking specific loot or just for gold. It is sometimes used negatively as in gold sellers have bots running toons to farm gold, but my guildies use it to refer to the more benign situation I described before.

Yes.

Leathers do not sell for insane amounts of money, but skinning is a constant source of revenue. In general, you will pick up a lot more leather than herbs (unless you're specifically aiming for herbs and avoiding killing stuff).

As for enchanting, it can be quite lucrative if you have the high level, rare enchants. Before that, it is a huge money sucker for the most part. So I'd stick with skinning until you feel very comfortable in your financial situation (post 40 after you buy your mount and have some gold saved up, for instance) before attempting Enchanting.

If it were me, I'd keep skinning until 60. As I said before, leathers don't sell for much, but the quantity is much higher.

1) Farming usually describes the act of either gathering (skinning, mining or herbalism), or killing mobs for items that sell well either on the AH or vendor (such as Runecloth, Felcloth, Twilight Cultists' garb, Bone Fragments, etc). Basically, it's any repetitiois act that ends up making you money.

2) Yes- if you drop a profession and pick it up again, you start at level one.

3) I would recommend checking the Rogue Guide in the Rogue forums.

4) Herbalism and Skinning are two decent professions. I have a link in my signature as well as this anecdotal post about professions and making money in WoW if you're interested. I'd recommend you not drop skinning until you reach a considerably higher level (55+) when you might be able to bankroll your own profession. It can be expensive to level enchanting! I kept Skinning until level 50- rugged leather actually netted a tidy sum on Uldum server. However, at 60, you may want to drop it for something else, if you don't want to spend time grinding away at mobs for leather. From 1 to 55 or 60, you'll still be killing skinnable mobs, so why not make some money from it?

2 things.

1. Just been playing and at the top was an icon with a pumpkin in it and it said that I had recently been trick or treated. What does this mean?

2. I picked up an item a few times that was yellow (looked abit like cheese lol) and when I did it gave me two options, Greed or Need (I think) and I got a bar slowly deteriorating, I assume giving me a time limit to choose which one I wanted? What is this item exactly and what does it do?

1. When you talk to an Innkeeper he/she will Trick or Treat you (because of the Halloween/Hallow's End event). Once the pumpkin head is gone, visit a nearby Innkeeper to get tricked or treated again. Smiley: smile

2. Take a screenshot next time. Looks like a cheese, eh? As far as I know, the Need/Greed bar only pops up if you're in a group and the item is Uncommon (green) or better. Where did you pick up the item?

Additional notes to the Hallow's End - Trick or Treat event:

1. This can be done at any friendly inkeeper.
2. If you are "ready" for Trick or Treat, the inkeeper will have a special option for you when you talk to them. When you are "not ready", that option (Trick or Treat!) will not be displayed in his/her list of choices.
3. Once you select the trick or treat option, you will get a 'debuff' shown for you with a timer, and this means you cannot trick or treat again for 60 minutes. While I have seen a few glitches with the timer, for the most part it will tick down even when you are offline or on another character, so you can usually trick or treat with all of your characters, go off adventuring for one, and be able to trick or treat again with all of them an hour later. Again, this sometimes bugs.
4. When you select trick or treat, you will either get "Tricked", which means you are turned into some creature for a short time, or are "Treated", which means you get a special bag in your inventory, that can contain a particular type of goody.

this is an ok start. have you decided whether you want to be dagger or sword spec yet? sword is considered faster and easier for leveling.

when you are in a group and a higher quality item drops (green or better), you have to roll against other group members to determine who gets the item.
need gets priority over greed.
roll need if the item is an immediate upgrade and you will equip it now.
roll greed if you intend to sell it, disenchant it or send it to another char.
if unsure, ask the group.
you can press the red x at the top right to completely pass. this will also happen if the bar runs down to zero.

1. All major cities have their own map. Just press the M-key on your keyboard to open up the map. As for leveling spots, basically go where the quests tell you to go. You'll discover more and more of the world map as you explore new areas. You can always view the world map by pressing M. Right-click the map to zoom out and then click the various areas to zoom in on them.

2. There is no "most wanted class" for anything. Except perhaps instance runs. You can solo level to 60 if you want to (plenty of quests). You should pick the class you enjoy, not the class you think will benefit a potential guild the most. That being said, Warriors and Priests are pretty popular because of their vital roles in a group. Warlocks and Druids are the least played classes on the servers I've been on.

3. I wouldn't start a crafting profession at all, unless you really, really, REALLY like to blow money on it. If so, stick to gathering professions (herbalism, mining or skinning) until around level 40. Unless you play a Warlock or Paladin who get their mounts for free, buying a mount (and riding skills) will cost you almost 100 gold. As for guides to the various crafting professions, check out Allakhazam's Trade Skills Forum first. It's not hard finding the items needed for crafting. Unlike many other MMOs there aren't different qualities of the materials needed for crafting, Heavy Leather is just Heavy Leather, there's no difference in quality. Once you learn to craft a new item, open up your crafting menu (clicking the icon of the crafting profession in your spellbook) and click the item you want to craft. It will tell you what items you need and how many you need. Gather those items, click the "Create" button and voila, you've crafted something.

World of Warcraft is pretty simplistic when it comes to crafting stuff. You can't fail an item and lose your materials, in fact, you never fail at creating an item. However, higher profession skills are needed in order to learn how to craft better items.

Edit: Spelling, cleaning and linking.
