Here's my noobish question.

As far as items go:

Grey < White < Green < Blue < Purple

Did I get that right? Are there other levels too?

...Purple < Orange

Orange = Legendary item.

People also speak of Artifact items (Red), but I believe they are Game Master items only.

So that leads to another question.

At what level should be gear be changing from mostly white to mostly green? green to blue? blue to purple?

you will be getting your first green items at around lvl10 from quest rewards. then blue items at around lvl 15-20. those are drops from instances. the first purples appear at level 35 (e.g. staff of jordan) but only become widespread at 60. legendaries are only available at 60 for raiders. artifacts are not in the game (yet?).

Oh crap. I'm behind then. I was afraid that I was. I'm about even between whites and greens at L15/16, when I guess I should be mostly green and starting on blue. My problem is that I mostly solo. I'm usually able to be on for no more than two hours at a time and so I can't really do instances (from what I heard, they take HOURS and HOURS). I'm almost afraid to ask what the average money ammount is for a L15 character.

No, you can't stay AFK all night, there is a limit..

Now, I could be wrong about this, but I think there is an option somewhere in the settings where you can adjust how long you can be AFK before disconnecting.

I can't remember for sure though, and I'm at work right now so I can't really check...so...

Someone will need to confirm this for me. :)

Well, you don't necessarily have to run instances to get green and blue items. You can create them via crafts, or you can purchase them off of the AH, there's always a plentiful supply of greens and blues for auction. You shouldn't really aim to be in all blues - it's unrealistic, inefficient, and a waste of time unless you're trying to make a twink. This is the norm, and you can still easily grind all the way to 60 in greens and a handful of blues. You may not be the best at PvP but you'll still be viable. Just be sure to keep your greens within your level range.

As far as instances go...they generally take about 1-2 hours, assuming your other group memebers aren't a bunch of rtards. In a competent group, time will fly by fast and you'll net far more drops than normal. It also helps to do some research on the quests for each particular dungeon, so you know which ones will reward you with good loot and exp.

Don't get too discouraged about being poor at level 15, almost every toon at that level is unless you spend all your time farming and playing the AH (or if you're funding him via a higher level toon). I'd guess the average amount for a 15 to have would be around 50s - 1G.

Don't stress too much about it, it'll all work itself out later on as you learn more about how things work. And as mentioned earlier, the Auctioneer addon you can get from http://www.curse-gaming.com is very helpful.

If you solo you don't need to worry too much about your gear. Also it's not a big deal in the lower levels anyways, unless you do PVP then you will run into twinks.

Sell the items that drop. Grey sell to vendors and some whites. Some whites will sell on the auction, like materials used in tradeskills. Sell any green drops that you can't use the auction as well. Learn a couple of gathering skills like mining, herbalism and skinning. Sell what you get from those on the auction. Then check the auction for new gear as you level. Don't spend money on the high priced items because you'll just end up replacing it in a few levels in the lower end anyways. And one expensive blue item could pay for a whole decked out set of green.

I also forgot to mention;

Buy some decent backpacks before gear. Those extra slots will get you more return than an extra stat here and there. You don't need the expensive ones but just upgrade as you go. When you get a higher slot bag just resell the old one back on the AH.

don't worry, it's not that bad.
when i said you get your first blues at lvl 15-20 from instances i meant just that. you will still be in mostly greens for a long time (with 2-3 blues) unless you are rich, lucky or know exactly where to get your stuff.

yeah, you're doing alright.

are some of those weapons from the vendor? sorry to say, that is the worst source of gear.
instance drops
ah
random drops
crafting
vendor

that's about the order of it. crafting could be placed higher up, depending on the amount of time you put into it. but a lower levels, the skill isn't high enough yet to get you good stuff.

the wand is nice on the warlock. try and replace the sword because str is useless for a lock. you shouldn't be meleeing. the gear on the warrior is good.
also, i see that you have enchants on your gear. very good! and you have bags in every slot, very nice. it seems your warlock is a tailor, he will be able to make bags soon which increase in size as you get better at tailoring.

your stats on the warrior should be agi, str, sta and sta, int on the warlock.

Fishing Skill

I am up around 220 now I think on fishing - I am still using blaumps pole :) As its groovy - Im sure ill pick up a better one later

So just now im around 220 + 3

Is there really any point to bait/lures?

I seem to have the same amount of regularity fishing with or without - now I tend to fish mostly for firefins and oilies around the local areas as these sell well in the AH - and pick up some nice nice sage for my kitty food stock

But I dont seem to fish more or faster with lures compared to without now

I still get the odd chest or item too without lures so Im just assuming theres no real use - or will I need them as I start to fish higher level areas?

Just now Im 34 on level and fishing in areas up to about the 40 to 45 mark at most - I havent ventured into the ??? zones to fish

How do I know what type of bag will hold normal loot? I can't find any Backpacks in the AH. and the small bags won't carry my larger loot. Only ammo. Where can I find larger backpacks for loot?

Also, In FFXI there is one large AH amoung AHs. The Jueno/Whitegate AH. Is there on like that in WoW?

Also I'm having trouble finding, Pet food. Where can I find it, and what is it called in-game? The item name. I tried a search in AH for "Pet Food." But no avail.

Edit: I figured out how to feed my pet. Took me a while to figure out exactly what "Using food close to the pet's level will have a better result" meant.

thanks

Sorry for the large quotation.

Lures will increase your Fishing skill temporarily, making you able to fish in waters you could not fish in otherwise, or would have trouble catching fish in at least.

If you keep getting "Your fish got away" or if you can't even fish in the area, use lures to optimize your performance. However, if you can fish without using lures, don't use them. I haven't used lures since I hit 50 in Fishing. Just stick to fishable areas until you gain a higher skill. Smiley: smile

Again, sorry for the large quotation, but I like to keep it organized. First off, to quote someone, simply type
where <name> is the person you're quoting. Remember to end your [tag] with a [/tag].

Now, backpacks are usually bought off the Auction House. You need to look in the Auction House menu under "Containers". I'm guessing you've been looking under Quivers/Ammo Pouches. You can use 4 additional bags to your default backpack. Remember to replace those you already have if you buy some larger ones.

In World of Warcraft there are two Auction Houses. One same-faction Auction House which is a network spread out over the various capital cities, and one cross-faction Auction House which is a network spread out over Booty Bay in Stranglethorn Vale, Gadgetzan in Tanaris and I believe there is one in Everlook, Winterspring as well.

Forgot to add, the two networks are connected so that the items you see in Ironforge are the same you see in Stormwind, and the items you see in Booty Bay are the same you see in Gadgetzan.

True. However, Shador, he mentioned that some people know exactly where to get their stuff.

http://www.wow-loot.com

Check it out and load up your class. It'll tell you what items drop for you in what instances. Remember that just because an item is listed for you, it's not necessarily just for your class. It even lists some things that make very little sense for the class that they're listed for.

Example: On the mage listings, several items with +healing(as opposed to +dmg/healing) which are fairly useless for a mage.

Just use your own judgement.

Don't take my post that literally, SA.

Here's what you need to type:
Text
Replace name with the name of the person you're quoting and no, you don't have to make it green.

Right now I have a 21 Warrior. For talent points, what would be the best talents to max out or is my talent tree fine as it is?

how can we know what it is currently?

do you want to reach ms as fast as possible or will you do a respec at 40? pvp or pve? tank or damage? tee or coffee? pie?

you have 12 points at 21. a possibility would be:
2 in imp hs
3 in imp rend
5 in tm
1 in anger mgmt
1 in deep wounds
keep going for sweeping strikes

or
5 in malice
2 in imp hs
3 in imp rend
2 in tm
then go for deep wounds

Talent Points? How do I earn them, only by LvLing my class? If I use them, can I take them back? Like can I untrain them or once used gone for good? If I'm lvl 60 and have used all my points, then untrain them. How can I re-earn them once my Class LvL is capped? I haven't used any yet, but am leaned towards a certain Talent path. Don't want to make any unfixable mistakes.

Also, is it possible to have all Talents capped?

Any info. or guide links will be great. Thanks.

I've just installed WOW and I am just about to set up my account. Thing is, my credit card expires in 5-6 months.. will I be able to transfer my details to a new credit card?

Also, when the WOW expansion pack comes out, will we be able to use our WOW accounts or will we be required to sign up for another one?

Thanks.
#200 Oct 30 2006 at 1:48 AM Rating: Decent
You get 1 talent point per level from 10 to 60, for a total of 51 talent points.

If you use them, you can only have them back by paying ever-increasing amounts of gold to your class trainer, who will wipe your slate clean and give you all your used talent points back, so be very careful when choosing what talent to put points in. Plan in advance if you need a particular talent in the future.

You can't cap every talent, there aren't enough points. You could cap a talent tree, and have a few points left over, but it's better to use 21 or 31 in a tree, and the rest in another, for a few of the most powerful talents.

No mistakes are unfixable in this context. Just expensive.

You can change your CC info under account management. When you get TBC you do not need to make another account.
