Thanks for the info. Looks like no one else seems to know how to open this box either. Oh well I will keep checking around and hopefully find out how to open this mysterious box.

I've been wondering..

If I am doing a solo run of an instance (Dm, SFK, Stocks, ect) and have to log out for some reason, what happens? Do I stay in the instance or get booted to the entrance? If I stay in, do the mods stay dead or all respawn?

Hello I am new to WoW and I would like to thank you for having a thread like this. I have already learned a few things from this thread that I have not been able to find the answers for elsewhere. I will be back to check this thread on it often. Maybe one day I can even answer one or two. :>

First Question:
I see people running around with "Ranks" like Private, Sergeant, corporal, and such. How does one go about getting these ranks? Is it just going out and challenging people to fights, killing horde, or is it the War effort?

Second Question:
I think this question falls in line with the “War Effort” leading to Commendations post earlier. Does anyone know if there is there a post, guide, or web site that will give me more information on the Ahn'Qiraj War Effort? I am guessing since my server is still new this is still going on.

1st question: The titles that you see are ranks that are earned from PVPing and gaining honor. A FAQ about Blizzard's honor guide is here: http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/pvp/honor-system-faq.html

You can see what every rank title is here: http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/pvp/ranks.html

2nd question: All you would need to know is right here.

Oki..here I go.

I was wondering about those +something item..like +spelldamage, +healing. How do those numbers work is it really simple like Spell does 100-120 damage and if you have +10 spelldamage then it does 110-130 damage.Or is there more complicate formula.

The thing that confuses me is that people usually take those items instead of +stat item.Like if a hat gives +9 they will take it instead of really good stat bonus.

Two items I currently have and made me ask these question are Hypnotic Blade and Hand of Righteousness. Why is the Hand of Righteousness so much more expensive to sell then HB.

HB seems better to me...Oh and I'm a priest and I wield those items with Orb of Lorica.

Thx for help.

Ah yes, well that is a bit complicated to explain out right. Check out this link for detailed information on how +healing/damage work and their formulas.

Hi, I hope someone can help. I am new to WoW and I am farting around in Elwynn Forest with my mage and I came across a locked chest that only opens with Jame's key. It is near Stone Cairn Lake. I tried to find it and I think I have done all of the quests available to lvl 10 mage.

I looked for info here and cannot find any. Maybe someone knows something.
I like to clear the area before I move on to Westfall.

Thanks.

Hey Wooooo

I just saw Iron Forge City

the Dwarves have a TRAM !! lol :) :O

Faaaantastic ! I was thinking hmm ill have a wander around - after having to use the hearthstone due to wandering into a level 55 beast i was like ok lets see what this ironforge place is aint been there yet

Wooooo :)

Its just fantastic - and huuuuge for such wee fellows :)

Anyways

BarrelHunter you metioned a mod called Pet Feeder ? Im going to look for that it sounds handy - I do not want to add really much as id rather learn the hard way first so I can find out what I need to fit me better kind of thing.

Titan Panel is really nice adds a good bit of info without being too new or strange - but for all the others I think fumbling with keys and accidental mouse clicks for a while will help me learn what i need when i need it

Other question

Guilds - is there anyway you can search like guilds with oldie type folks like me - gamers from the spectrum eras lol - Guilds of people from a similar area or regions in the Uk ?

That kind of thing

I get random invites in game but i find that a bit annoying sometimes as theres no like hallo what level you on what you up to what you need - just

click and ???

eh

no :) ty

plus as a new guy after reading all the warnings etc in the first days of the game i was like nope nope nope nope to eveything

Getting more relaxed and into the swing now :)

Best way to find a guild in your area is to just ask any nerd you know. There are eight of us in our guild who've known each other for over 10 years. Two college kids at the local convienient store want me to go Alliance with them.

Now have you hunted the rats in the Tram area? Fun little quest that reminds me of a famous English Author who wrote Scrooge.
Damned filter won't let me say his name.

you can go to your realm forum at the official wow forums and make a post of who you are and what guild you're looking for.

you can also just wait until you've met a few people. you'll get to know other players when you qest with them and especially when you do instances. then you might see a guild that you want to join. or you might even get an invite from a cool guild.

join the looking for guild channel. it should be on by default because you are guildless. some guilds also recruit via worldwide lfg. just keep your eyes open, you might see something.

Ok

Never ever ever ever ever go into a dungeon on your own :) hee hee hee

its Green on my damn quest list !!! :(

Now i want a 30 strong group to go in and kill every god damn thing in the dungeon :)

Another thing ive spoke now to a few players in game with various collecting skills like mining or herbs gathering

I told em for my leathers I use the bank :) and found me a 10 slot bag on a drop from a raptor so purchased another space in the bank

Got an 8 slot bag in the bank full of salts thread n dyes

Then use most of the bank space stacking leathers

I know this is obvious but for some folks in game they have been like heeey thats a good idea

Ive traded off other items to vendors and went on skinning sprees coming back with loads of leathers

Then swap all my kit out at the bank and head up to the leather merchants n start producing for a good 10 or 15 mins or whatever - then wwwwhaaaack huge mounts o cash :)

Though i am now starting to shove some items into auction as thats proving a bit better

And question again - do meeting stones really work? Do people use the innkeepers ernough?
- i ended up solo as i had spent ages waiting for a fathomdeep team :(

The meeting stones aren't really used, like, at all.

The problem with them is that you can end up grouping with 3 warriors and another hunter. There is no proper group formation with them so no one uses them because of it.

Thankfully the xpak will introduce an LFG system that looks to be better than that in FFXI - assuming it doesn't have too many bugs....

I believe they all respawn and you log in at the start of the instance.

Great thread n help so far folks

Thanks to the thread I have PetFeeder on now which is a really nice tool for sorting out foods for my kitty :)

Thats really it for mod wise for me - PetFeeder and TitanPanel both really really good simple mods for a new Hunter :)

I have again thanks to the thread worked out about the action bars and now have most of them on display

I am on level 30 so no need for all the spaces yet however its allowing really useful quick clicks on the rarer items - things i have never used in battles as they are too awkward to reach

Like the PetScare talent i think it is - makes something run away - hardly ever used that

Traps - hardly used as I was in the foray before remembering ooo yeah thats on the other bars :)

Shadowmeld even - for pausing in dangerous spots to just check something or even reply to a whisper

And now I have feign death :) ready to click in the heat of a fight :) Really useful stuff and good tips n hints I have picked up

I recommend to any newcomers read read read - the basic guides - main site stuff and info first on the very basics - with that behind you you understand and pick up tips from seasoned players much better

Then a thread like this is ideal for those little queries or strange things you encounter on your travels

I recommend not using the variety of super mods as I feel some I have seen are pure spoilers that tell you where things are - map things out for you - tell you basically everything - I prefer to keep it as basic as I can so i have to put in some work - only by putting in the work and making all perhaps the obvious and unlearned mistakes will make you learn the depths of the game much better

QUESTION - while I remember

Pet Training Points ? Do these work like Talent points ? My kitty is on 29 about to level I have about 40 ish points I think ready but have many new skills require level 30 on my pet but add up to way over 40

So basically do I have to be cautious in how I spend those training points?

Hi there, thanks for the thread I'm finding it helpful.

I wanted to ask, what are the players doing I see attacking a town? An example of what I mean is, I'll be questing about and see a message in my local defense chat "townxyz is under attack!"

Is this war effort or something else? and who is expected to respond?

Actually, there were home computers in the 70's, but they all played Zork, and yeah, I mean the text based version that you'd load from 5 1/4" floppies (or if super old school, from a copied tape), or if you were a high tech geek, from 8" floppies. Then drop that bad boy on your 10 MB hard drive that would dim the lights when you turned it on.
Ok, sorry if that seemed like a hijack, but Barrelhunter made me all nostalgic and stuff. :)

Hey all

How do you set a macro for a trinket? i want to use my Insignia of the Horde trinket but its a pain to have to open the window and click it. Thanks

EDIT: Nevermind i figured it out. If anyone was wondering what it is, it's

/script UseInventoryItem(13)

Or instead of 13 14 for the other trinket slot.

Hey Cazrel

Had me confused and got me killed the first time I saw the chat window spamming with

Auberdine is under attack !!!

I ran down to the shores and found the hoarde all over the town didnt realise at the time firing off me bow caused me to go PVP and ended up ded - several times :)

Theres many reasons parties of players will attack or enter towns areas etc hostile to them - for set quests etc or even the fun of it :)

The NPC guards etc are all there set to respond - but a lot of the big players respond too

You can join in most areas - /join localdefence and /join worlddefence - this will simply alert you to these warnings in whichever area you are in - and if you want to respond - you can - firing on a PVP player/enemy will flag you to PVP too so you will get hit back :)

You could also drag the trinket into one of your hotbars.

yes, you cannot train everything. people focus on a role for their pet. like damage, tanking (high armor and hp), resistance (high fire resist for dragons), going a against casters (fast attack and run speed).

you learn abilities as you level up and from your pet and then can train them to any pet. some things might not take all the points you first thought, because lower ranks are included in higher ranks (like rank 1 = 5 pts, rank 2 = 10 pts but if you don't need 1 and to, so total is 10 not 15). think about what you want your pet to do and then spend wisely.

cazrel wrote:

they are pvp-ing. towns have a lot of players which can mean a lot of kills. this gives honor points to get higher rank. faction leaders also give a lot of honor and reputation.

Puunji wrote:

nope. one curse and one drain per target per warlock. if you have several warlocks in your raid, you can stack one each. like curse of elements, curse of shadows and curse of recklessness with 3 warlocks. this significantly improves raid dps.
