I guess I'm still a new player. I've only been playing for 6 months.

My question is: what is dkp?

I hear that alot from raiders. How does that work exactly?

dkp is a system to assign loot in a raid.

it is not a component of the game, you manage it yourself (there are addons like raidtracker to let you track who got which drops, but they don't provide the dkp system).

you get dkp for going on raids, killing bosses, being on time, providing potions to the guild etc.

then you spend those points on items that drop by bidding against other players in the raid.

many guilds have class priorities. so that the main tank (who is really important for guild progression) gets tank items first. or that caster damage gear goes to mages and warlocks first, before allowing priests to bid on it for solo and pvp use.

Thanks again, I like this thread.

This was from the Scourge invasion which at this time is over (on almost all Realms) but according to Blue posts on the O-forums, the Scourge could invade again at any time. So you may be able to complete that quest at some time in the future.

You sure he's not talking about the AQ Opening Event Commendations?

Good Call on that one but generaly for the AQ opening Event but I thought those NPC went away after the Gates have been opened, atleast I do not see them on my server since the gates were opened (I will look around tonight). I have seen and talked to the NPCs about the Scourge invasion since we have stopped the first invasion.

I was kinda thinking of these guys and I know the SW one is still around on my server(AQ was opened a long long time ago) so I'd assume these ones are too.

I've heard players refer to "Twink" warriors before. What does that mean?

When someone says that they have a "twink" character it usually mean they have a level 19 or 29 character that they have decked out in all the best gear for their level and put good enchants on everything. Basically it is go to into the battlegrounds and be able to kill easily in your bracket. There are even guilds of all twink characters who PvP together to win games as quickly as possible to work on rep with the battlegrounds. And to have fun of course!

Other people also twink out lower level characters if they want them to level up quickly. Usually people who do this have one or more level 60 characters, so they a lot of money to spend on doing this and they have already seen all of the game content, so they just want to level as fast as possible.

I shut off the damage meters totally in the interface, but I had a mod that worked perfectly. It allowed me to pick and choose what I wanted to see. I made some adjustments...things were ok, but I wanted to tweak some things, but I couldn't find the darn options again! It must be something in khaos, but I'll be damned if I could find it again.

What does Bind when picked up or equiped mean?
#83 Oct 19 2006 at 3:21 PM Rating: Good
Bind on pickup or BoP means it is soulbound to the one who picks it up, you cant trade it to other players after that or put it in AH.

Bind on equip or BoE means it isnt soulbound to anyone yet and can be traded or sold in AH. When someone uses it for the first time it then become soulbound

k... so if I equip a bind on equip can I take it off and put a better item on later? The word bind makes it sound like a curse or something.

Haha, no it's not a curse :) You can always take the equipment off later to upgrade to something better, it just means that once you wear the item you can no longer sell it to anyone else to wear. Anything that is "soulbound", ie bound to you, can only be sold to a vendor or disenchanted if you have enchanting as your trade skill.

If I roll a character on a PVP server and die to a player of the opposing faction, do I lose exp, or just the standard cut against armor integrity?
#87 Oct 19 2006 at 4:16 PM Rating: Decent
Ok I have a question about the "trade window".

There are some recipes that are bind on pick up that you buy from vendors, then the items made are also bind on pick up. So how does some one who is not of that trade skill get some one to make them one of those items if it is bound as soon as it is made?

Now i have heard that you can trade the person with the trade skill the items for the recipe then he can make it in the trade widow and you get the item. Is this true?

Thank you ahead of time for answers, and I will most likely follow up with another question.

If a player from the opposing faction kills you you dont lose anything except for the time it takes you to run back to your corpse.

If it is bind on pickup, only the crafter can use it. Kind of like your own personal option for gear for having a craft at 300. I know of some level 60's that have crafted tailoring to 300 in one night just to get a special, BOP robe.

Keep those questions coming, If I can't answer or aren't around, theres plenty of helpful people - as you can so easily tell. Thanks to everyone for pitching in when I couldn't.

Exactly. You don't even lose 10% durability like you do when you die to a mob.

Hi there! If the pattern is bind on pickup, and the resulting item that is made is bind on pickup, it means that only the person who made the item can use it. There is no way that they would be able to make the item and then trade it to someone. Essentially, it is a bonus to that person for choosing that trade-skill.

An example would be Truefaith Vestments http://wow.allakhazam.com/item.html?witem=14154 which is a priest robe. Anyone can pick up the pattern, but the item is bind on pickup, so as soon as it is made it is soulbound. So basically, only a priest who is a tailor benefits from the item.

However, some patterns work the other way in that the pattern itself is bind on equip, but the item it makes is bind on equip and can be traded.

Hope that helped, even though it probably wasn't the answer you were hoping for!

Edit: I see Webjunky types faster than I do! Ah well, now you have two helpful posts, always better than one! :D

Some one told me that you could have the item made through the trade screen, like with a enchantment, but I am guessing that person was wrong.

Well thank you for the very speedy answers and happy hunting.

I've seen several collections for the War Effort leading to Commendations so I'm expecting more to follow. The last was spammed to all players during log in for the entire time it was going on both to tell us and remind us. I'm expecting it to happen again as the expansion opens the next boss. The donated materials have covered the spectrum of materials possible by proffecion so this will allow the new Blood Elves and Dranai to gain Honor Points while also pumping the use of the auction house.

Hey folks

Apologies to whoever was in the eh zoram shore dungeon with me but heh heh thats what happens when you randomly select folks to join a group and that dude - ME :) - hasnt the slightest idea whats going on

I was in there meself :) it was yellow - changed from red on my quests so i thought - ach cant be too bad - in i go - agggh - anyways - good that a group passed before i got to the main entrance so i saw more than i ever would have alone

okay question on the dungeons - do the mobs respawn ? inside the dungeon - as i died a few times and the journey back in was easy passing many corpses

i was kind of worried they were about to spring into life again :)

Next question - some areas i ventured into like - Fenwood i think - and maybe thordale or vale - as soon as i arrived theres a beast - with ??? level

and it kicked hell out of me - scoring a fine 3 points against it :)

is this just a higher level zone ive wandered into where when i was on 25 these things are maybe 50s and more ?

i notice most zones quests lead you onto - often have like beasts maybe as far as 10 higher but not much more - and as you quest you level on par with em

so why the - ??? areas - i assume its a way of saying go back and quest a bit more in the other zone before you take your chances in here matey :)

1 dishonourable kill :(

i saw on Orc - Civilian - he was red - so i eh

whacked him :)

welllllll

he was ugly ;)

With regards to repawns in instances- Yes, but it depends on the instance I think. I don't remember ever getting respawns in the low level instances, ie Deadmines, Blackfathom Deeps, etc. However, once you progress to higher and higher instances they do begin respawning. Each instance seems to have a different timer. Again, I don't know exactly what they are as I have yet to be in every instance :)

When you see mobs with ??? over their head when you go to a new zone, it means that you are not high enough level yet. For example, Felwood, the zone you are talking about that is next to Ashenvale, is a level 50+ zone. If you're not sure you should be entering an area, you can come here and click on the link on the left hand side about zones and it will tell you what level the zone is.

from the The Stickied Sticky FAQ- Read first if you need a sticky

Quote:
So you want a sticky for your corner of the forum. What now?

1. First, check your forum and see how many existing sticky threads you have. If it is more than 2 existing stickies, your chances of getting a sticky are signifigantly decreased.

2. If there are three stickies already, and you just have to have An_uber_thread_04 stickied, compile some of them, or add your thread to the existign ones. To compile two stickies, take the relevent sticky info from two stickied threads, put it together in a new post, and include the links to the origional threads, and credit to the origional posters. Then post the link here for review and stickying and de-stickying of the origionals. Compilation threads will almost always be stickied, no questions asked. be sure to let us know it is a compilation though.

3. If the sticky is for one of the main forums (EQ, WOW, EQ2, FFXI, etc.) the standards are generally more stringant.

This thread is a good idea, and newbies asking questions will keep it at the top. There have been similar threads in the past...

in most instances mobs respawn after 2 hours. roaming patrols respawn after 30 minutes. bosses never respawn. you just haven't seen it in the lower instances because you clear them faster than that.

in raid instances, it's a bit different. they respawn much less, especially after you kill a boss.

all mobs that are at least 8 levels higher than you cannot be identified and display as lvl??. run.

Hi, I hope someone can help. I am new to WoW and I am farting around in Elwynn Forest with my mage and I came across a locked chest that only opens with Jame's key. It is near Stone Cairn Lake. I tried to find it and I think I have done all of the quests available to lvl 10 mage.

I looked for info here and cannot find any. Maybe someone knows something.
I like to clear the area before I move on to Westfall.

Thanks.
