List of realms down for 24 hoursFollow

#127 Jul 26 2005 at 2:26 PM Rating: Decent
I see a lot of people are pissed because their servers aren't on the list but I'm really pissed because mine IS. I play on Hellscream and I have yet to experience a single game-related issue, be it lag, falling through the world, being unable to resurrect, crashing instances, or what have you. I've also yet to hear complaints in any general chat channels or in my guild about any issues--but my server is still being taken down for 24 hours.

Now I've only been playing for about 3 or 4 weeks, but is Blizzard usually this retarded when it comes to their tech stuff? I've experienced more downtime in the past few weeks than I'd experienced in months of Everquest II and FFXI. And I also don't understand why there are so many serious and unique issues cropping up in servers with identical content--this I also never noticed in Everquest II and FFXI. I've been playing for such a short time and my faith in Blizzard is already fading fast. The only reason I even started playing this game is because Everquest II doesn't support my new nVidia 6800 card.

Blizzard: "All other realms will be brought back up at the normally scheduled time of 11:00AM."

LIES

i keep logging in, and that server selection screen keeps coming up. I still try to find my server, i do the checkmark things, and the server list shows up...but its blank. i am utterly confused, because my server is Shadow Moon, which isnt down for the 24hrs. If i can add time right, 11AM PDT = 2PM eastern, which means the servers should have been up 1 hour and 25 mins ago. but i cant play. also, i tried going to www.worldofwarcraft.com and the screen sits there refusing to go to the site. i am wondering if blizzard itself is down? or something

EDIT: OOOO there are 3 pages...so...i prolly just repeated what someone said because i didnt read the other posts after page 1

Ahem Ahem, I wouldn't go blaming AT&T with blizards probs. If you resolve the adresses of www.blizzard.com and www.worldofwarcraft.com they come up as two different adresses. Probably meaning two different connection points. Also something that points to it being blizzards issue is that the authentication servers still are working. If you recall from logging in, you first get authenticated prior to seeing an empty zone in list. Therefore, blizzards authentication server is still up, but not the rest of it. Since their authentication server is up, they do posess the capability of allowing users to know what issues are currently going on. However, they remain silent. Not drawing any conclusions based upon this information, just listing out my own observations.

Good news is it appears some of the realms are back up. Unfortunately mine isn't yet, but some are. :)

No matter - can't enter instances in Stonemaul.

At least there attempting to fix the problem. I have played many MMORPGs and I must say this has been the best experience (gameplay and style). I do feel bad for the peeps that have the day off and cant play, however I would rather be down for a short time. Yes even 24 hours! Then play with major bugs. I played one game that I worked and worked leveling a toon and then the company closed thier doors. At least Blizzard is growing stronger. We all need to remember we are dealing with computers and software. Its the nature of the beast. There will always be issues and problems. The time to ***** is if there are major issues and Blizzard does nothing...

In the big picture 24 hours is a drop in the many many hours we all put into gametime. Take a deep breath and before ya know it you will be in WoW once again!

:D

my server has been having problems for the past 5 days now, and it's not on the list. which is starting to make me think, does Blizzard hate our server?

When I went to the login screen a message said the realms that aren't down for 24 hours would be up by 1:00 p.m.

Well if its 1:ooPM PDT we'll be able to find out how imcompetent they are in 10 minutes...or semi-competent lol

I just like to say for the past few months I've been warning people on blizzard's messageboard concerning the population lag instabilizing the servers.

While I've received much support from players, I've received none from Blizzard.

During one of my phone calls with a supervisor to a technician who caused problems with my computer, I even told him the possible solutions but Blizzard and Vivendi Universal are nortorious for not listening.

As of now I am laughing my head off!

The way they programmed the character information in this game it causes bandwidth consumption at an exponential level once you get more than 20 people in each other's field of vision. Bandwidth consumption leads to memory leakage!

Blizzard can take some simple solutions and apply them to kill the consumption, such as:

1. Server Side population filters. Each person can have a population filter that's recorded server side. Once you reach a population level in your field of vision all further characters above that pop level are displayed as simple "stock characters". That information about all the junk they are wearing is not even sent to your computer. The server just sends simple commands.

A tree can look like this:

Population Filter

[] Alliance
[] Horde
[] Both
[] Off

Population

[] 20
[] 30
[] 40
[] 60
[] Always

So if I click [X] Alliance and [X] Always that means that any time an alliance person moves into my FoV they will be displayed as a stock character. i.e. the server would only send this to my computer:

genFemaleHumanPaladin();
genName();
genLevel();
gen2hAxe();
// or 2hmace(), or shieldandsword(), or shieldandaxe(), or shieldandmace().

Already that's just 4 lines of compressed code. NOT the 30 that the server already sends per character.

That's a massive reduction in not only processing on both ends, but bandwidth. Especially when you get into exponental returns. Just imagine how much faster and lag free this would make Battlegrounds.

Other solutions to lag reduction:

1. 3 Auction Houses in each major city.
2. Moving gryphon flight path out of Ironlag and into Kharanos
3. Mail system definitely needs to be revamped, I don't know the system so I can't tell you how to fix it. But it's just broken.
4. Raise the altitude of all flight paths, that way the server won't keep trying to tell people who just appeared in their field of vision when they are on a stupid gryphon. Even in PVP seeing someone fly in is totally ignored! Do you know how much space is wasted sending information to and from pcs from a fast and low riding gryphon?!
5. Connect the flight path from Loch Modan to Burning Steppes.

There are other solutions out there too. The point is Blizzard refuses to implement any. That is what's really sad. At least they're paying for their ignorance right now.

Good lord it's like the invasion of the freaking sock puppets. Gah.

Does anyone know if we actually agreed to this in the service agreement?
Yes you did, which is why your post is completely absurd.

It's $15/month. Do you REALLY want me to do the math for you to break down how much it costs per hour?

Let's just say you aren't being ripped out of millions of dollars here.

Besides, if you can't handle 24 hours of downtime (WHICH WE ARE BEING REIMBURSED FOR) then you need to cancel your account and go into video game rehab.

Geez people, have some patience...

It's sad when people cry so damn much about not being able to play a game for a day.

Get a hobby people!!

Or at least another game.

Maybe they are trying to fix the issues with regards to some of the instances duping, and those that took advantage of design or game flaws. Better to allow them time to try and fix things rather than roll us all back a few weeks or so

Whisperwind has been horrible and I also play a 53 pally on Shadowmoon and it has had it's share of problems. On Whisperwind we have had numerous raid splits, instances crash, zep issues and whatnot. On Shadowmoon the instances crash a lot and there is a issue with rezzing. The strangest thing happened to us on an attempted Onyxia raid last night. Our raid split so we decided to wait 30 minutes, disband and try it again. We reformed the raid and went in only to receive the "Your not in this instance's group" message and we could not zone out. It ported everyone out and it told some people that they won a warsong mark of honer and gave them a token. THE SERVERS ALL SUCK!

This isn't that bad...... I cleaned my room, =P. But think about this (excluding 60s) if Blizzard has a soul they will give everyone full rest xp! and that isn't so bad

You will find out soon enough. Just do something else and come back later tonight or tomorrow. Your PvP rank info isn't going anywhere.

I've said it before, I'll say it again..

It does not matter how much we pay for this service, we are PAYING FOR A SERVICE!!!

Don't tell me to get another hobby, why should I change what I like to do? It is so hard to believe that people would be pi$$ed cause they are not being able to utilize the service they pay for? ....Let me repeat that.. the service.. THEY PAY FOR.

And it's not just about this down time either, have any of you tried getting any kind of help in the tech support forum? Or, heaven forbid, tried to call their support line? Bliz's support team is a joke, not only do they not really know what they are doing (I invision 40 monkeys with pocket protectors) but they have no idea what the term "Customer Support" even means. There are hundreds of threads in that TS forum that never get answered, and before you go and say that they have so many they could not possibly reply to all, they all take the time to close the threads that tell them how crappy we think they are, so they have time to at least post SOMETHING in the other threads.

See, my main complaint is that this happens almost evry time there is a patch. You would have thought Bliz would have thought up a better way to do this by now. And then for them to start pointing a finger at the players by saying "Well, are you sure that it's not your PC?" Well...hmmm... let me see, this BS didn't start happening untill after your "Patch" so..... NO, it's not my PC you asshats.."But wait, try deleting these folders...." Ok, but that didn't do crap... [silence] "WAIT I KNOW!!! 24 hour downtime!!! THAT WILL BE US FOR TEH WIN OMFG!!!"

Just you wait, the down time may fix some problems, but how much you wanna bet a whole new string of crap starts breaking..

I get so sick of people in here, and on the TS boards saying "Quit bi@chin". If your crack dealer stopped givin you the rock, you be pissed too.

All that said, I freaking love this game, ever so much more than FFXI. So I guess I will continue to play, but don't think for a minute tellin me to settle down or STFU will keep me quiet.

Blizzard could go along way to fixing the lag in IF if they wouldn't let people ride their mounts or summon their pets -- !!!
Selfish people who do both of these things are a large part of the problem!!!
