Ok I have a few questions, and I am a bit new to this so please bear with me.

I am really interested in changing some of the looks on my character's armor, weapons, etc.

First of all, where do you find the TGA files that you described in the first part of your post when you were taking the human female bra off the second lightest skin color, or did you create them? If you created them, I would really like to know how you did this, because this is the step that I am lost in. After you have created (or located) the TGA files, I understand you are supposed to rename or replace them, correct? Or if you convert them to some other file type, please let me know how.

I have downloaded MyWarCraftStudio, and have been messing around in it. Am I supposed to open model.mpq or texture.mpq, and what do I do from there?

For example, taking the Human Female's bra off, where exactly would you find those files and what would you do with them? Is there a file you have to rename, delete, replace, anything?

Sorry for all the questions, but I take a great interest in your work, and wish to understand how to do it myself to change the looks on some armor, weapons, skins, etc.

If I am mistaken in any part of my questions, please clear it up for me. Also, if I am missing a step somewhere, let me know.

Thanks, and much appreciated.

Edited to update what parts I am lost on.

So I downloaded MyWarcraftStudio, and right now I'm trying to make my hunter look like a High Elf. I can get the entire body to look like it, just by swaaping the skin texture to HighElfMaleHunter but for some wierd reason the legs still are purple.

Also, the face. But for the face it's because I picked the face but I can't find a face to use as a High Elf, I tried a Human face but the ears looked messed up and everything. Any tips on how to fix it? Also, can I edit one of the NE faces to turn it lighter and then put it in-game? Is that against the TOS or not possible at all? Thanks in advance.

Erm, you have to take random files, a 1X1 tga file or something, and rename it to "nightelfmalenakedpelviskin" or whatever, for the appropriate skin number, otherwise you will have purple legs and shorts instead of the high elf textures

Now your problem is the head - to my knowledge there is no way to either edit textures or anything like that, and high elfs don't have seperate face textures like night elves do

The only way would be to somehow use the high elf model for your character - but that would result in a blank white model

Sorry I don't think you can do it

I can help you with clothes components, the textures are under items/texturecomponents (I'm pretty sure) you just have to find the piece that looks like yours and replace it with one you want

As for gender just extract ALL the files for your races opposing gender (the one you want to be) and rename everything MALE to FEMALE or vice versa (so ...example trollmaleskin00_02 would become trollfemaleskin00_02)

Do the same with the sounds and speech.mpq

As to the other requests, I've detailed how to do it as best as I can, if someone wants to write a step by step tutorial be my guest.

I see, but what I don't understand is when you say you made a TGA file with 1x1 dimensions. I'm not sure how to do that, thats mainly what is losing me, if you could clear that up it would be much appreciated :)

Now this **** is all awesome! hehe...but I do have a question still...

Do others ingame see the stuff the way you changed them? Or is it just you who can see the change cuz the change is only on your computer? Im not sure about that if anyone can answer, and also, it would be AWESOME if others could see the change lol.

But yeah this is way sick, wish i could try it out, too bad im on vacation so cant till next month.

Only you can see the change, since you have the modified files on your computer which allow you to see it. Other players will see things normally on your character. However, if you gave the texture files you modified to a friend and had them put it in their data folder, they would see the changes you made as well.

It is very amusing, but it can be used to cheat to a point. Change how your client shows you a stealthed character.

Things like this were also used in FFXI to give advantage when hunting Notorious Monsters, such as the emporer in the dunes. This mob looked just like the other mobs in the area but was named, by simply replacing the img of the Emporer witha behemoth instead of a fly it would stick out very much so, and you would have those few second/s to react over others.

I don't see any reason someone would be caught, or punished for changing img files and I think it can be fun to play with. But There is always a way to exploit such changes , and there is always those who will try to turn stuff like this to their advantage.

Hmmm... you bring up a good point there.
Is it possible to change the textures of the herbs so that they are not near invisible for herbalists? perhaps change them to a larger glowing plant?
Same with mining veins?

That would make the lives of gatherers much easier. :)

And since this is all happening on the local client, it will be hard for Blizzard to monitor or police it.
#112 Jul 06 2005 at 2:41 AM Rating: Default
read: impossible for Blizzard to detect it.

No you CANNOT cheat with this, stealthers are stealthed no matter what you do client side, you can make them a 400 foot tall ragnaros and you still would only see them if you have the proper stealth detection measures and are close up

Now as for the 1x1 tga file, I think ANY unreadable file will work..

Try this: Right click, create new file, text file, rename it to "texturename.blp" where texturename is the right name (eg: TrollFemalePelvisSkin00_01.blp), now ingame that texture will be see through and youll have a bare *** troll (eeeek!)

Problem however: doing this can result in characters becoming invisible, hit the C button to make your character visible again but you may not be able to see others of different races (if you give night elves bare asses, and you play one fine, but if you give dwarves bare asses (shudder) and you play a gnome, all the dwarves will likely be invisible) The only counter to this is OVERWRITING the file in the texture.mpq, which is fine if you back it up first

My suggestion if you plan to seriously do this: use files in your data folder until you get it right, then put them into your MPQ and overwrite the originals (once you have backed em up, youll have to unbackemup to patch and then remake changes and rebackup after each patch) so everything shows up in game fine, then delete or move the tgas and .wavs and .m2s from your data folder

Just a by the by- there are tons of nude patches out there by now. I don't get the point (I mean... really, why?) but they do provide a nice tutorial on how to modify the existing textures and models in the game.

Ancient Core Hound Druids ftw.

Ok Rugburn, one more question (I appreciate all the help you are giving).

In your last example, you tell us to Right click, new file, text document, and rename it to the texture name, I understand this. I have tried putting the file I created (explained lower in this post) inside the Data folder.

The type of file that I created is a "Text Document" and it opens with "Notepad". The file name is "NightElfFemaleNakedPelvisSkin00_05.blp". It is currently in the Data folder, but nothing has changed in-game.

Am I mistaken somewhere?

Also, I have tried the Human Female example on the first page of this thread. Nothing seems to work.

What I believe the problem is, is the TGA file. I can't seem to make anything but the Text Document file that opens with Notepad, unless that is what you are supposed to do.

Do you have any advice you would like to share with me?

Thanks again in advance.

Ok, naked gnome... check. Would be interesting to play a pantless, not naked, gnome. :P

Nice that someone did this for wow, and is letting people modifty it more. I used to have Dark Elemental Moogle in FFO :P

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v287/rugburn123/hordebutts.jpg

Seriously the Troll one is hilarious. "w00t" It was interesting to see them naked to see how much time they spent on something that wouldn't be seen. I remember in SD3, if you were on a emulator you could disable a layer and, when your character slept, you could see them in their underwear. A 100% pointless graphic as you couldn't see it on a Snes.

I still don't see how people think you can cheat with this. SO WHAT if a Gnome is now the size of a Ogre? Stealth is stealth, thats hard coded. You don't see a mob in stealth until you win a stealth check against the mob. Once you do that, you hear the stealth sound. You can easily click "Tab" to then target. Simple. Make Alliance red Ogre and Horde Blue Ogre? How would that help in PvP? It would get in the way and cover up your screen. It is very easy to tell Alliance or Horde at a glace (Cept for Night elf's and Trolls since Night elfs mutated from Trolls). It would be harder to see anything through a sea of Ogre.

As for "NM" mobs, Blizzard isn't like Square. Named(silver dragon) mobs don't blend in. Even if Blizzard coded it so named mobs could easily be changed (like with FFO) seeing Ragnaros instead of the normal frame wouldn't really be all that much of a tip off compared to normal. The only ONLY time I didn't know from the very start I was fighting a Rare, was in Stratholme when I went through a "Trap" and some ghosts came out at me. After the mage AOE'ed them all, 1 was left at only 90% health, and we realized it was a elite.

Seeing them naked was cool because you aren't suppose to be able to. The real point would be doing stuff like making the Shapeshifts look nicer, or new Warlock pets which just server the client. And maybe giving yourself some NPC only gear, like those damn shoulders Argual and some other high mages wear :(

I am having problems with my character drawing properly. Many times when I change form (druid) or load into a sector my character will not draw in. If I open the character panel (where you put armor and weapons on) my character then draws in. Any idea why this is happening?

thanks,

1. Please post system specs.
2. Have you tried reinstalling the game?

Is there anywhere that you guys have read a tutorial on how to use this? I can't figure out to save my life how to do this stuff. I used FFXI's modelviewer a ton and know how to use that, but this seems 100% different. Can anyone give a quick walkthrough on how to change just one item (weapon or armor) so I, and I'm sure many other clueless ppl, can get an idea of how to do this? Your help would be greatly appreciated =)

Is there currently a way to export/import character animations? Say I wanted to lift male night elf dance moves, apply them to a male human, so I look a little less like Disco Stu when I dance?

1. I have tried this on three different systems with different video cards. All with ATI 9800, Geforce 6600-6800 video cards, lates drivers and 512-1GB of ram. The issue is only present when I use these .blp files. Once I remove them all the character draw correctly.

2. Not going to re-install the game for a change that I made and that doesn't break the system.

Just wondering if anyone else had this happen when they started adding .blp files. Guess it's just me. Maybe its the 1x1 bmp file that I saved as a .blp file.

Ok I replaced my White FrostSaber model with a Brown Wolf model, everything looks good, I got the saddle except his tail and his mane are missing.

Alright, I'll bite too...I followed the exact instructions you had, used IrfanView and saved a 1x1 file as HumanFemaleNakedTorsoSkin.blp and made it a .TGA file. Put it in the World of Warcraft/Data folder and ...nothing?

I know I'm doing something wrong :|
#126 Jul 08 2005 at 11:16 AM Rating: Default

To Slinkey:

I think you are supposed to put the skin color in the file name.
Kinda like "NightElfFemaleNakedPelvisSkin00_05.blp"

Maybe that'll help. By the way Slinkey, may I ask how exactly you create a 1x1 TGA file?
