Lost my character's underpants (really)Follow

Let's say I want to remove the groin areas on my leggings so I can see what's underneath even when wearing the armor. Is this possible? If so, how would I go about doing it?
#728 Aug 08 2005 at 11:51 AM Rating: Default
Wow compliments to Ahriana Scholar. Compared to what I'm doing with this, you are a ******* master.

Alright so I know how to do most of this stuff however, I want to make clothing invisible. I tried it on one of my usual characters: a male orc. I tried to change the Talbard Upper to a 1x1 TGA and it worked, but the game still rendered the loin cloth model so I ended up with a loin cloth with no texture and it was green just like my body. Can you edit the models so that the talbard model isn't rendered while wearing it??

Also, I tried the same thing on my other orc with leather shoulder pads. Same thing. Now I have lime green shoulder pad models floating above my character untextured. Or is there a texture that is "invisible"?

Varcan:

Do you mean that those 5 steps you explained above enables you to see anatomically correct pelvis and torso areas *while* looking at transparent armor? I tried, and its not working for me.
#730 Aug 08 2005 at 7:41 PM Rating: Default

Yeah. It doesn't work for ALL armor though. Only for female specific armor items (items that are graphically different when females wear them then when males wear them). It doesn't work as much on the Pelvis area because the graphic for most of these armor pieces is usually identical for males and females. If the patch were to make these items transparent then they would also be transparent on the males which believe me you don't want. lol. An example of a legging that will be transparent is Black Mageweave Leggings.

Ok, so I read through most of this thread and I saw a post on the first page about a gnome changeing his mount skin.

How the heck do I do this...

I replace my MechaStrider.blp and 2 MechaStrider.m2 files into the Frostsabre.

For some reason all that happens is my mecha will have the skin of the sabre but the body of a mecha. Any help would be great.

REGARDING THE TRANSPARENCY ISSUE;

The data for transparency is in the TGA files that can be extracted by MyWarcraftStudio. For those of you with Photoshop, do the following;

1) Open the MPQ file in MyWarcraftStudio
2) Save the file as a TGA to whatever folder you choose
3) Open the TGA file in Photoshop
4) Click on the "Channels" Tab

Within the Channels, you can see there is an extra channel devoted to masking out whatever pixels are not actually used. These are used on Creature models (preserving hair effects, like on the Boar and Gnolls), to masking out clothing, for low cut shirts (for example.)

You can edit this channel by using the brush tool in Photoshop, and delete or add to the channel mask.

NOW, HERE'S THE HARD PART.....

How do we get this channel to remain a part of the TGA file as it's transferred to BLP? This is what I'm wondering. Right now, whenever I reskin my boar, his hair appears in solid chunks instead of being masked out, sadly. Same goes for the clothing thing, and that's why a few posters have ended up with the "turtleneck" effect on their characters, because the areas that SHOULD be masked out aren't getting masked out when they're being brought back into WoW's graphics renderer.

So, in conclusion, it isn't a specific color that is acting as a mask, rather it is a separate channel that isn't translating BACK to WoW's BLP format. Someone (a programmer) needs to take this into mind when creating a TGA->BLP converter, something I'm not handy with. If anyone can take this task upon them, that should be the last hurdle to many skinning issues.

Bump for working leper gnome skin and hot nude succubus skin!
#734 Aug 09 2005 at 12:47 AM Rating: Default
If perhaps the author of the BMP->BLP converter could make a version that supports 24bit or 32bit with Alpha channels, then we'd have problem solved! =)

ok i got a new question now.. i FINALY got the BMPs turned into the right file and all of that
but now the leper gnome skin is not working on my warlock.. if i go to start another charater it works fine but not on my premade charater?
what am i doing wrong with that? any ideas?

So can anyone help me out? I would like to change my 4 shapeshift forms... What would I have to do to get someone to either do this for me or help me do it?

I assume you only copied over the leper gnome skin for one of the skin tones, so it seems likely that you edited one that your character is not using. On the character creation screen you're scrolling through all the skin tones and seeing it there... you'd probably also see it around the world when you run across a gnome with the correct skin tone.

I just wanted to know if these modifications will be affected by any new patch updates in the future?

Desima, if anyone can answer questions about the future, then we'd all be playing the lottery a lot more often.

Who know what the future will bring?
#742 Aug 09 2005 at 11:03 AM Rating: Default
If a future patch changes a texture by simply dropping folders into Data, it might overwrite any custom files you have in there on the same path and filename. There could even be a command in the patch installer to delete the Data folder... So far, when they have changed art, the MPQ gets changed, and regular folders aren't used.

Sorry about the lack of updates, everyone... busy weekend.

I'll be going through and updating my big post.. now.

Oh, um, sorry for the confusion.. that was a joke. She doesn't have any gear. So "wearing all her gear" is completely nude. I'll hafta make sure to specify that in my update.

Okay, I've (finally) updated my big long summary post on the top of page 13. Newcommers to the forum are encouraged to go there. I also added a bit on what I call Type 1 and Type 2 patches... the disadvantages and advantages of each and such. I'm re-posting it here in case it gets lost in my big post, with the hopes that the terms will come into use.

There are currently two types of patches going around. Type 1 patches(only called such by me because they were the first type to exist) modify the Pelvis and Torso files, such as HumanFemaleNakedPelvisSkin00_00.blp, leaving the Skin files, such as HumanFemaleSkin00_00.blp as they are. Type 2 patches modify the Skin files, replacing the Pelvis and Torso files with transparent files. Type 1 patches do not work in conjunction with TOOGAM's file to make clothing transparent, since this patch shows the Skin files, not the Pelvis and Torso files. Type 2 patches, however, seem to give some systems trouble, including any German versions of the game they've been tested on so far. This might be because of their reliance on transparencies. One thing to try if they're giving you trouble is deleting all the Pelvis and Skin files they create. From here, you need to download MyWarCraftStudio from http://www.curse-gaming.com/mod.php?addid=657 delete the same files from the MPQ. To do this, go to the Pack menu, select Edit MPQ archive, browse to your "World of Warcraft/Data" directory, and select texture.MPQ. From here, you can right-click on each of the Pelvis and Torso files associated with the file you want to get rid of, and select Remove File. This should fix the problem with Type 2 patches for at least most people. Anyway, in my next update, I'll be posting next to each file whether it's Type 1 or Type 2. Conversion between these two types of patches shouldn't be too difficult for anyone who can edit .blp files, but it will be time-consuming.

Awsome work guys, I went on my girlfriends laptop, and made the mods to make NE females naked, and i whispered her when i got home, and told her to strip down her character, and she started screaming, "Thats never happened before, OMG shes naked naked!!!" Ahahaha....

Anyways, the next step for you guys is to make all class sets( beaststalker, devout, etc) into sexy see-through lingere with the transparent mods ;)

I'm sure you put alot of effort into that TOOGAM but... the TGA to BLP2 converter doesn't work for converting model texture BLP2's

Load screens and interface graphics are in a different format than the model texture blp2's. For those a TGA format will work; anything other than a blank blp2 that's going on a model will show up either as black, distorted, or blank. Believe me, I've been keeping track of this thread for a while and trying to find out how to keep transparency across conversions... that's the one flaw with the Java converter.

Have you tried my directions? I pointed to a completely different converter than the Java converter you reference. Plus, I recognize that even the converter I pointed to doesn't work with some *.TGA files. However, I haven't yet had it fail with other *.TGA files.

For those who are trying to use PhotoShop to make transparent .blp's and are struggling still, could you please post the following for me?

A) A *.TGA file file that you're trying to convert. (Or a *.BMP.)
B) Please save the alpha channel into a separate file, as a black-and-white image (like a *.BMP file). I might be able to get by without this, I might not.

I'm going to try to make a *.BLP file out of it.

Also, I don't necessarily have all of the armor in the game. The Black Mageweave Vest/Leggings would be something I could test fairly easily, or else a Moonglow Vest. Or maybe a cheap shirt that a tailor can make. (Let me know what you're converting.)
#748 Aug 09 2005 at 2:29 PM Rating: Default
It seems some people are leaning away from what Zetan calls "Type 2" patches due to some systems having problems with transparency. For systems that don't like transparent textures, could someone please do the following? (And then post whether this has helped, as I'm curious.)

Underneath the directory where WoW should be an already-existing DATA directory, which is what I refer to in these directions.

First, rename (or backup if desired, and completely erase/remove) the DATA\Item directory and DATA\Characters directories if they exist. (They will only exist if you've been using other patches.) On my system, these directories don't cause any problems, and they aren't incompatible with this patch. If you're having problems with the transparencies, though, do this.

MyWarCraftStudio: Extract DBFilesClient\CharSections.dbc from DBC.MPQ
Charsect.exe: Run this patch in the same place where CharSections.dbc is.
If all goes well after running CharSect.exe, you'll have two files: OrgCharSections.dbc (which is the original file that you extracted from DBC.MPQ), and CharSections.dbc (which is the newly modified version).
If you have OrgCharSections.dbc created, then CharSections.dbc is probably modified the way it should be. Place the resulting modified file into DATA\DBFilesClient\CharSections.dbc

You should now be able to remove anything your character is wearing and see the basic textures underneath, without needing to use any transparency graphics, so hopefully this will help those systems that had such problems. See if this works. Then, before trying anything else and messing something else up and getting discouraged, come visit this site and make sure that someone, possibly yourself, has posted the results of these steps so far have been posted.

Then, if you like, you can rename-back the Data\Character directory or install other patches. Note that anything named (RaceName)FemaleNakedPelvisSkin00_0?.blp or (RaceName)FemaleNakedTorsoSkin00_0?.blp will not have any effect as long as the modified DATA\DBFilesClient\CharSections.dbc file exists. That's okay, though, because this "patch" is one more reason for people to be using the patches that use the (RaceName)FemaleSkin00_0?.blp name/format instead.

Credit for this implementation goes to stormfrog for his post on page 10, although I suspect his idea was largely overlooked due to inaccuracies in the directions (should look for "Naked", not "Nude"), and that it seems many here aren't very comfortable with hex editing (which is why I made the CharSect.exe). So, I thought I'd make it easier for people and point out that this may be a solution for those with transparency struggles.

ShadySnake did! Hmm, I can't quickly find his actual post to the zip file, but Zetan links to it in his giant post at the top of page 13.

(Edit: I originally posted saying Zetan's post was at the top of page 12. It's page 13.)

The Sea Lion has been modified. (I have not tested the files downloadable from this link, but since I saw this, I thought I'd point you this way just to answer your question.)

What I'm saying is, making blank .BLP files is alot different than actually editing a texture. Alot of people throughout this thread (including myself) tried all the TGA to BLP converters around... none of them worked until Ahriana posted Taktaal's BMP to BLP converter. In all honesty I don't believe the transparent .BLP's you've been making are even being read by WoW as being transparent but invalid; but they work apparently so it's irrelevant.

For load screens and static graphics, yes, the TGA converter will work. But for any texture that needs to be wrapped around a model; usually all you'll get is distortion of some kind.

Cloth_C_05Black_Pant_LU_F.blp is the upper part of female Black Mageweave Leggings, if you pull it from MyWCstudio; if you convert to TGA and then back to BLP alone you'll see what I mean.

For all of the ladies out there,

I've quickly thrown together a NoUndie patch for all of the male characters. It removes all the male races, both horde and alliance, underpants. This is a type one patch and hence removes the undergarmets but does not change the actual skin. Therefore, all of the male characters are absent of their junk. To install, unzip the below zip file in the WoW\Data\ folder and be sure to keep the folder structure intact. I tested it on my computer and it worked fine. Let me know how it works for you. Feel free to add this package in to a complete nude set as I think thats what people really want.

Download Psyns_WoW_Male_NoUndie.zip

Enjoy,
Psyn

*EDIT*
As with all the quickly done patches, ahem, this works fine on the player model but has the tendency to make other player models vanish leaving only the shadow circles. I wouldn't recommend using this until it has been fixed.
