Not without extracting them and renaming them so they apply to your character

I assume you are the only one who sees the difference, right?

Guess it would be fun if you got bored with your current pet's look or how your character looked to you.

Now of course, anyone else who used a voidwalker would also appear to be using the same altered appearance as yours, right?

So an elemental voidwalker for you means an elemental voidwalker for everyone? Is this right?

I'm thinking some very funny SS could be made by changing the different animal pics to gnomes in Durotar and the Barrens. Maybe the little boars in the fenced area. =)

I'm sure someone could eventually make it work like the Modelviewer with some effort.

Afterall, in FFXI everything is number coded, some people just went through everything renaming it for the program.

What would be REALLY cool is creating your own custom textures.
#58 Jun 24 2005 at 12:24 AM Rating: Default
Just thought I'd throw this in: Changing the model/texture or whatever COULD get you banned from wow. I don't exactly think that blizzard would approve of getting brightskins etc for your opposing faction. Or maybe replacing every gnome with let's say ogres instead. Makes it MUCH easier to see them coming sneaking in ashenvale. Or maybe change the arrow model from the hunters target? Those may not be the best examples but I think you get why blizzard may frown on this.

I don't really hold GMs promises/advice in a high regard on this sort of matter. They are not exactly an authorative force to be reckoned with. If there was "official" word on their homepage that it's totally OK to change textures/models I'd be happier. And even then I don't think it would take them long to reconsider that decision when you realize just how many cheats that could be created just by switching around the original models/textures. Add in player-created models specificly for this purpose and you get quite a mess.

If you don't know what brightskins are they are basicly pink/white/red textures that cover the whole base model. MUCH easier to see. It's common in FPS games that are played on a competetive level (such as UT2004).

Well, I am pretty sure this is all client side.. so this means no one else gets to see your crazy shinanagins. This is probably why it isn't under any violation. The only person viewing your changes is yourself. I dont see much wrong in that... Just dont be like.. Look at my UBER ARMOR!!!! Might cause some commotion..

Brightskins wouldn't be that relevant, really. The big honking red letters over every enemy are usually 'hint' enough that they're around. Even with stealthed players it's not going to have much impact; when you hear the sound it's quite obvious there's one nearby, and they're quite easy to spot regardless. More to the point, it's both completely impossible to detect as their current system stands and so easily fixable to prevent this kind of stuff (load only from the .mpq files, run checks on their veracity - you could go around that fairly easily still, but meh) that any kind of action is unlikely.

I'm looking into the system that they use to create their textures, and although I haven't checked I'm pretty sure that I can edit them fairly easily using Photoshop or similar. I'll run a few tests if I have the time this weekend to see if I can just edit the existing models; making further changes from there would be the next step.

Something is missing... did anyone notice tanlines on any of those shots?

Or do avatars actually tan in the nude while you log off?

I don't think that any action is going to be taken as it stands right now either. But it's still a huge advantage no matter how you slice it. Imagine making all enemy faction models into bright green large ogres. Then you make your own team into bright blue large ogres. That makes all the difference in the world when it comes to large scale pvp.

I feel like doing 2 polar opposite jokes here.

1. Someone has been paying WAAYYY too much attnetion to those screenshots, "got life?"

2. WoW there's a naked lady standing in front of you and all you're concerned about tanlines.

It's not everyday day you get to see a pixelated naked lady though... unless you have a computer and the internet.

Rugburnone, 2 sites for you.

1: http://shadowflare.gameproc.com/dwnload.html Get WinMPQ from here. I haven't messed with it for adding/replacing files. But it has yet to crash from loading and extracting WoW files.

2: http://tech.wc3campaigns.com/index.php?page=downloads BLP2 converters. Haven't really tested converting to BLP2, but I use the BLP2->TGA converter for WoW.
