No you can't. BUT you don't have to pay for extra chars like in FFXI, you get like 50 (up to 10 per server I think) with your base fee.

Be both... Keep in mind you have so many chars you can make you would spend YEARS leveling them all.
#6 Dec 27 2004 at 9:19 PM Rating: Decent
how can i be both? by having 2 characters? thats confusing...what job should i start out with? because i heard warlocks can summon nightmare mounts at higher levels...but mages look so cool casting...

Like I said, you can make up to like 50 different characters... I actually have like 5atm, all different jobs. As for what to be, its a matter of taste. Paladin and Warlock can summon mounts at high levels, however warlock sometimes pales in comparson to mage in terms of damage.

You don't get to change jobs, but you do get the ability to actually level your character in a decent amount of time, instead of spending more then a year grinding, only to find no one wants your job at a certain level range.

You can have up to 10 characters per server. Up to 50 total. The characters can be both horde and alliance on each server, unless you are doing pvp, then it is only one side.

You will not be considered a gimp if you choose a troll shaman, or troll warrior or troll mage, or whatever else a troll can be. Race is not so much a factor in ability, just what you find to be more fun.

Also, no subjobs and no one complaining that you are a 42war/mnk and not a war/thf or whatever is in vogue.

You don't have to worry about n/m camping, or gil sellers either.

The grind is also made more tolerable by the fact it is hidden mostly in quests you do. So if you enjoy exploring, and completeing quests you won't feel so much the grind as in FFXI.

I have a Warrior and a Hunter that I alternate between (thinking about making a NE Druid too), and I actually enjoy that a lot more than I enjoyed leveling different jobs in FFXI. It was annoying (to me) having to level subs, having to keep equipment for three or four different jobs in my Mog House.. I like having different characters because it's a different experience for each, and it's a bit cleaner and easier when it comes to switching between characters/jobs.

Yes, another ex-FFXIer here, trust me, jobs suck!

In WoW (like almost every other MMORPG) you play a class...

You have a character, he is a Hunter, everything he has in his bank is HIS. He doesn't have 4 sets of armor that he needs to swap when he "changes jobs". He does Hunter stuff... It's his life. He has a hunter job, hunter supplies...

THEN, you have ANOTHER character, he is a Mage, he has Mage stuff in HIS bank... He has a mage job, mage supplies...

Trust me, you'll like it...

You'll want to play them all...

Not to mention, the resting bonus! When you are not playing that 2nd, or 3rd, or 4th character, he can get resting bonus, which means, when you DO play him, he gets DOUBLE XP for kills!

The resting bonus builds the longer you are NOT playing that character, and I think the max bonus is about 1.5 levels worth.

Stop stressing, you will not regret it.

ok, i've read about 200 billion ffxi threads, and all the other threads on here and having not ever played FFXI, is anyone else bugged by the word "Job." Any other roleplaying/fantasy style game i've ever played ever, dating back to pen and paper, called them classes. Is this in any way a legitimate gripe, or am i completely outnumbered by exffxi people?

Umm...the only thing FFXI lets you do that is different than other games is that you can keep your name on a different class. Really, its not that groundbreaking.

They were called 'jobs' in FF1, and then they were called jobs in pretty much every other FF games (FF Tactic comes to mind).

But yeah, aside from in FF, it's always 'class'.

It's a bit annoying - and I recall when I started, I kept calling it class as well - but you get used to it after 1 year+ of FFXI.

I am glad you can not switch classes hah. That was soooo horrible doing that. Having to keep all the gear for each of your classes you play.

I still do not know how my wife plays that game.

Well FFXI you just sent the extra equipment to your mules.

Wait that kinda ruins the whole point doesn't it.

Ah FFXI, what a horrible game. Any game where you can switch your class is bound to fail. (FFXI, SWG)

Yeah, I hated that, actually... With a single character, it was hard to build a reputation as a certain job/class then to switch and be the same person, but a totally different job...

Each of my characters has its own slightly different personality...

My Dwarf Hunter (Malyr) is the nicest guy, will help just about anyone, any day, even go out of his way just to assist others in their Quests... He has many friends and is very social... (he mirrors me in r/l, essentially)

My Rogue is cocky, but still pleasant and has a close set of friends he can trust. He may not go out of his way to help you but will certainly put a knife in someone's back if the opportunity is presented. I may play him if I'm in a "mood".

Certain other characters may be solitude and not real social (certainly not to the point of rude), it's just their character.. I'll play one of these if I just want some alone time.

This isn't possible if they are all the "same" character...

It's also SO much easier to switch between them, you don't have to swap all your armor, supplies, try to cram it into your MH, etc. Each one is equipped and outfitted to their respective class...

I love it.

HAHA and you had to pay for each mule ;p i hated that

Oh, don't get me started on the whole 'send stuff to your mule' thing.

The whole idea of having two different place to send and receive reeks of flawed design.

Log in to Main. Go to MogHouse. Change job. Walk to AH. Send equipment from current job to Mule to clear space. Hit 8 items limit. Go back to Mog House. Log out. Log to Mule. Receive Items (to clear send box). Walk to AH. Send Equipment. Hit 8 item limit. Go back to Moghouse.

Repeat.

Repeat.

ARGH!!!!!!

Just one more little tedious thing that was there just to eat away at our time... Just one more little thing that made FFXI a job.
