I don't think it does, never once have I heard anyone claim that the Spirit stat improves Mana/HP regen.

It does however effect proc's, it did before and as far as I know they haven't changed it.
No patch has said anything about changing it anyway.

In Beta, a high spirit sped up mana and health regen at a considerable rate...at such a high rate that an extremely high spirit would allow one to actually regain mana while casting channeling class spells.

Spirit was reduced in effectiveness for obvious reasons.

It does effect the mana and health regeneration on characters, just not at the easily noticeable level it once did.

The Official Strategy Guide states "Spirit - Improves Rate of Hit Point/Mana Gain While Out of Combat."

HP are increased while out of combat.
Mana is increased so long as you aren't casting a spell, and haven't for the last 5 seconds.

People argue bitterly over the effectiveness of spirit in this game.

I have nearly 300 spirit, and it is quite useful. I regen about 85ish mana per tick. Of course, during boss fights or something spirit wouldn't be as useful, since there's usually a lot of casting involved, but for the most part my spirit regen is nice. Since my main heals are 380 and 382 mana in cost, it doesn't take that long to regen for another heal, if I get out of mana.

any caster will normaly want int over spirit simply because spirit is so situational and only saves you from downtime.

Spirit definately helps with mana regeneration. I did a small test with my warrior cause it has a large desposable income (level 59) and bought a lot of level 30 +spirit cloth gear. His health didn't regen any faster than it did with that new armor than it did before.

I then bought the same armor for my level 39 priest and it's mana regen tripled, not accounting for the talent maxxed out for 100% spirit after a kill (Shadow Talent)

Spirit helps a lot for healers but i find it a waste if you are buying armor for a warrior with +spirit, thats for paldins, not warriors.

As a Priest, I rather have INT over Spirit. Spirit is really only useful when you're not in combat, and I'd just use a drink. I usually take INT over Stamina over Spirit. After that, it's usually AGI.

INT is the way to go unless you want quick downtime.. but this can be solved through drinks.

I did a test. First, my character stats.
Level 42 Druid on Kargath server. 171 spirit.

I had a +1 spirit enchantment on my bracer, which would be the tool for my experiment to enchant it +3 spirit.

I would cast spells until my mana was close to 0, then when my mana started ticking (or regenning) I would note them and compare results.

+1 spirit enchantment test :
86, 138, 189, 241, 292, 343, 395, 446, 498, 549, 601

If you compare the amount of mana regenned between ticks, 5 times out of the 20 seconds (2 seconds is a tick) it only regenned 51 mana, the rest 52.

+3 spirit enchantment test :
10, 61, 113, 165, 217, 269, 321, 373, 424, 476, 528

With 2 extra spirit, my mana regenned between ticks twice of 51, the remainder of times 52.

From this, I gained an extra 3 mana in 20 seconds with 2 extra spirit, which is equal to 0.075 mana per second.

I also did a secondary test with the +3 spirit, and I only gained 51 mana once, instead of the last test of twice.

RESULTS : 1 spirit = 0.075-0.1 mana per second.

Of course, this is outside of battle, and without casting spells during the ticks. Mana regens slower while casting spells or in combat, so it's even less than that.

All in all, spirit isn't THAT helpful. It will lessen downtime a bit, but don't worry about getting just spirit. There's some gear that just has +spirit and no other stats. Personally, from the tests I've done, the gear's pretty crappy then in my opinion. But you're welcome to perform the tests yourself. :)

For Warlocks, spi is a good stat to have. I usually regen enough during combat (I Use wands heavily after I have a mob all nice and dot'ed up) to be only 200-300 mana less than what I started (this includes casting about 600-1000 mana worth of dots). After this, I just use a life tap and I am nearly fully charged again and if I am not, I now can split the minimal amount left over both hp and mana. Spi is a very touchy stat really. If you can afford downtime or are a class that burns though gobs of mana quickly, spi is probably not for you, but if you have time to stand around during fights (e.g. a warlock who has done everything they can for a few seconds) then spi can be very helpful.

Currently at level 40 I have 1700hp and 2700mana. More than once I have saved my group by being able to regen enough mana to fire off another dd or another dot or even a fear to keep something away from the group after everyone has run dry. It's all in what you do and which stats help you do it best. I'm primarly spi, then I work int+sta at the same time sacrificing for neither.

Cool didn't know it affected regen rate, well you learn something new each day. :P

*bah* got rated down for some ungodly reason.

I stick to my Proc belief tho, I am POSITIVE spirit affects proc. If someone can please show me when they changed this it would be appreciated.
For those of you who don't know what proc is that is the probability chance of *weapons extra attacks" to hit. Like posion or maybe some ice-dmg if you have that sort of weapon.

Edit: To whomever/whoever that rated me down. Ok... can't even give an argument when you rate me down for something you think is wrong?
Weak.

Your test is inaccurate. The actual conversion is about 1/3 of your spirit per 2 second tick...or at least that's what it used to be. Feel free to correct me.

Then it had to have changed. I even made sure your amount of mana had nothing to do with it by taking of a piece of gear that had a large +INT to it (with no SPR on it of course) did the test again, same results. So your amount of mana has nothing to do with how SPR affects mana regen. As I said, feel free to do the test yourself. :)
