Has anyone noticed a significant impact brought on by the fishing changes? I'm wondering which items they reduced in price as most of the stuff I caught didn't sell for sh*t to begin with.

A lot of people complaining on the mainboard... which doesn't mean much, but still.

From what I heard, fishing isn't worth much for money making anymore, you're better off farming grays. It's more or less only useful for free food, to feed your pet or to get component for alchemy/cooking/whatnot.

Guess I'll try and catch some firefine snipper (went for 10s a stack) and see how much they sell.

Heh, I never saw fishing as much of a money maker to begin with. Maybe it's because my skill was only 225 (245 with the iron fishing rod), who knows. Firefin snappers did sell for a decent amount though. Problem was a distinct lack of vendors in the best spots to fish 'em.

Firefin snappers now sell for 5c apiece, or 1s per stack... :(

yeah you used to get decent money for firefin snappers or oily blackmouths, now you get only a fraction of the price.
As to getting too many green items from fishing I don't know wtf they were talking about. I never once caught a magic item while spending many hours fishing. I've caught a few locked chest, some messages in bottles, and some grey items. So I really don't understand why fishing was nerfed.

Firefin Snappers and Oily Blackmouths should be sold in the AH. If anything, those prices should go up since fishing sucks now, and supply will likely drop. Fishing was never a big money maker; after these changes though, it's a big money sink. It takes long enough to make back enough money to cover your gryphon flight; try not to think about that 1g you might have spent on the fishing book. The fished-up items used to make fishing interesting. Now they're so rare they really don't matter.

I have always used fishing in the past as a way to feed my pet (hunter type here). Also used the firefins and oily's to help my guildies with Alchemy items.

Though I have to admit, I actually fished up some armor upgrades for a lvl 14 (at the time) with fishing. Yes, I admit I caught items that were better armor than I was wearing at the time, green con Trousers of the Bard, and a pair of boots that I can no longer remember the name of.

Sad to hear that they feel the need to nerf it, but I would take the nerfage if they would open up the higher level areas to be fishable again. I used fishing as a good excuse to explore myself Smiley: grin

Cost of bait to train up to 150: 25s

Cost of deaths enroute to Booty Bay and flight home: 20s

Cost of Expert Fishing Book: 100s

Green items found during 3 hours fishing at Booty Bay: Zero

Cost recouped selling fish after: 10s

Fishing may have been a bit too easy, but hitting it hard from two directions was overkill. It does take money to train up, and it does take time and patience to do. I got nothing since the patch, and I've spent a lot of bait and spent a lot of time.

Making nothing good turn up in fishing anymore.. AND making fish sell for only 10% of what they used to... is too big a nerf.

I guess the alternative is to go through deadmines over and over and over again until I can afford the training I need. A little interlude of a couple days fishing and make some money at it would have been nice. But instead I have to kill things to pay to do a 'relaxing' pursuit.

Things that take time - hours - in the game should be rewarding, not cost money.

Take Care,
Cherreia.

You didn't un-equip and put in the bank all your armor? If I ever go exploring to a place/route that is so high I probably will die I do that.. Saves on the pocket book. Flight back though... >.>

I've never used a bait and my fishing is now at 160. So I have no clue what you're talking about.

I never used lures and never had problems catching fish. I never played beta, so not sure what it was like before, but I was happy when I could finally cast my line out and catch a rockscale cod, woot cookings gonna be going up too!!!

I fish because I like to fish. Also I like to cook them into stat food. So the changes don't bother me.

Ouch!!! Who brought out the super Nerf bat?? Damn I barely made anything to begin with and now its almost pointless. I barely caught any rare items to begin with and now its supposed to be decreased again?? OMG wtf the coolest skill in the game next to engineering and they beat it to a bloody pulp with a Nerf bat.

Dang it!

I think there were about two times I cast and wasn't able to pull in what I caught, and that was when I first started. I have never spent money on any kind of bait and have my skill pegged at 225. I don't believe your skill affects what you catch; only whether you can reel in your catch.

Only lures I've ever used where the free ones as quest rewards and earthworms and flesheating worms I've pulled off undead in duskwood.

I noticed a big change after the patch. I went to my usual sweet fishing spot were I would pull up nice green items, bolts of cloth and leather every several casts and now I get only fish, no other goodies in the water.
