Rogues do the best melee damage, period. But Rogues can only use daggers, 1h maces, and 1h swords. Which class, able to use 2h weapons (and/or axes), can do the greatest damage with them?
I play my Warrior occasionally, but throughout the majority of the game Warriors are specifically suited for tanking (even when played solely as DD the damage isn't spectacular). Druids can use spears and staves, but their melee damage is heavily reliant on Cat Form (which is back to Rogues again). I know nearly nothing about Paladins - are they effective at all as DD melee, or are they only useful as support units?
Are hunters the best at two-handed (and/or axed) melee? I've tested a few things out, and my melee DPS is almost always within a point or two of my ranged DPS if it's not identical. Hunters lose most of their debuffs at close range, but they can easily slip out of combat in order to reapply them after the melee phase of combat has begun (whether it's solo or group combat). With a Hunter, you also gain the DPS of your pet.
However, Warriors have more melee-specific abilities at their disposal, and their abilities are generally better than Hunter melee abilities.
So, Warriors or Hunters for DD melee damage? I'm still so new to this game, does anyone have anything they'd like to contribute?
