Im gonna have to give it to the Rogues (with all personal bias aside of course :P)

But seriously, with the stealth ability you can get around pretty easily in dangerous area's. Being able to get around in Dungeons all by yourself, and picking your own fights is definalty alot of fun. This has also enabled me personaly to finish more then a a few quest's completly solo, where others would need to party and battle there way through mobs.

Also when things get out of hand, you can use Sprint+Evasion to run yourself clear of a sticky situation. This personaly has saved me many times when I picked up additional agro that I knew I wouldnt be able to handle.

I dunno, these are the main reasons why I think a Rogue is the best when it comes to playing solo. But, the fact is in this game, all jobs can solo just fine.. they just all have a differant way of going about it. Choose what you think sounds best to you, and I promise you'll alot of fun.

I personally think that all classes solo pretty well. Its a nicely balanced class.

I have basically solo'd my warrior to 30 with no problems, and i don't see that changing. Oh and on a PvP server too - so added dangers :)

Id have to go hunter on that one, but its situation dependant. like the post above the rogue can stealth thru a whole dungion and just go to the end and get what he needs... if there are not 5 guys there wich there always are :P but id say Hunter>Paladin>Mage-Warlock as the top 4 reason being. A hunter can deal tons of damage thus killing fast and has medium armor and range, there pets do even more damage for them and act as there tank, at lvl 33 I have pets with like 1600 armor thats more than a paladin.

The reason a paladin is good? well he has the best armor and can heal and has good buffs while doing moderate damage. Why does the hunter beat that? well paladin is taking damage so his heals can be interupted and he will run out of mana, with my pet tanking I can use pet mend alllll day long and not run out of mana and keep it healed totally while we bash the mob up together thus doing more dmg than the pld.

Why is it situation dependant? well the pld is upclose and personal wich works in any area (except when its safer to pull something to a further area so you dont get adds) and in a closed in space a hunter loses the range they need to be effective and there pets can grab argo somtimes.

The mage and warlock come in 3rd id say because the warlock does the same as a hunter and uses there pet as a tank and uses magic to debuff and do damage, there limitation is there pets run out of mana fast and so do they, while hunters have ALOT of arrows (i carry like 2000 arrows on me in my 16 slot quiver) and mages have alot of movment restricting spells so they can hold mobs in a distance and fire away. The restriction is space and mana again.

In a bad situation a hunter can play dead, and if its seen coming as a night elf i can always shadow meld. I like what I am alot and I think my char is almost too strong since I solo mobs 3 lvls higher than me for drops and xp with no downtime at all when i cant find quest to do, but Hunter and Pld are both also the most used classes and I dont think it will be long before Bliz does somthing to nerf them up to make people use some of the other classes.

Warlock would be the best soloer.
affliction spec :
Send in the VW.
Cast 3 dots on the target.
Spam the Wand for dmg (make sure you have a good one)
I chain kill mobs (all day) with no downtime and I am lvl 31.
I also kill in under 24 seconds

All of them. Seriously. No job actually has an upper hand over another when soloing.

You'll hear some people say that classes with pets solo better, and others will say high damage dealers. However in all honestly after taking a long look around and experiencing all classes to level 10 I can say that all of them have a bright soloing future.

I don't care if you say "but this class has ability X which makes them the best", because no one ability defines a job as the best soloer. I find when you play a class you like the best you more often then not play your best.

I would have to say Rogues due to stealth and being able to vanish during combat to reset fights if things go wrong (adds etc.)...not to mention they kill so fast so you can "grind" quickly...There were many different classes to get to level 60 within the first few weeks but I believe there were more rogues than any other class at that time to do so.

except for the fact you can't vanish while in combat.

The only reason there were more rogues to hit 60 first is because there are more rogues.

Same way insurance is higher on red cars...red cars are in more accidents, because there are more red cars.

Does this make sense to anyone else?

Actually in 2003 Gray/Silver, white, black were all more popular than red. Yes i was actually bored enough to look that up. /shrug

Yeah i agree all a pretty even, yeah rogues have vanish but hunters have Feign Death and wing clip so yeah its more of what you will have more fun with

To avoid marking you down for asking this, given it wasnt a which class sucks question ill answer....

For PvP, do a Paladin for alliance or a Rogue for horde.
For PvE, do a Rogue or Paladin for alliance or a Shaman or Rogue for horde.

All classes solo well, priests are the worst IMO, but they can survive.

Yes you can. Thats the whole point of the ability "Vanish".

Bobhopekilledme, you can Vanish. You'll get the ability next level, level 22.

I'd have to agree that Rogue wins on SOLO 1v1 PvE, but when you get an add, it REALLY hurts. Paladins are very tough in PvE and can take 3 equal level mobs at once. Hunters do very well for them selves also.

But, since I'm a rogue, I'll tell you how my solo works. I've played with 2 different specs: Heavy Combat and Backstab. The backstabbing rogue must gouge, position, and backstab. Fights tend to be long, but they take very little damage overall. However, when one gets a link, things become very nasty, and one most likely will waste a Vanish, Sprint, or Evasion.

The Heavy Combat rogue, my current build, is much more direct. I stand still wailling Sinister Strike until I unlease a five point Eviseration, which crits for near 500 damage. I don't stealth much as a HC rogue, but I'll open with cheap shot (4 sec stun and +2 combo points).

I also play a Paladin which is level 25. Paladins are PvE gods! They can take elites of an equal level (with downtime). Or 3 equal level mobs at once (with downtime). But, a lack of ranged weapon hurts for pulling. Chain killing is very easy because mana is always regening as long as you haven't cast in the last 5 sec.

Id say to lvl 10 they can all solo good like that one guy said, but when you get in your 30's Id love to see a priest solo a lvl 30 elite sentry in gnomerain A lvl 32 rogue died when it had half hp, and my hunter can solo them with np... this is personal experience, its all situational based, if i get an add, im (insert explicit here) out of luck. But yes its thru the higher lvl rogue had no chance to beat them he dies to fast. while my pet I can heal and he takes the damage.

But even more so besides situational it depends on what exactly you mean by solo. Do you mean beat a gathering quest, or a boss killing quest? a rogue can stealth around and gather stuff easier than a hunter can, but the hunter might be able to kill the stuff without dying thus more drops and xp. and anytime I need a diversion because im opening a chest or harvesting I let my pet tank while I open it, then run away and have my pet follow. it works all too well.

As far as vanishing in combat I dunno not a rogue but i know fake death works, and has yet to fail me. not to mention the hunter can always run 30% faster with apspect of cheetah wich is like a god send, lets you do everything faster till 40 when people can get mounts, and I think it even stacks with the mount letting them still move faster.

Dont forget your talent trees, they will reflect alot upon weather your character is good in PvP, PvE, Group Play, or Solo Play.

A pvp huner needs to learn counter attack and enhanced wing clip to hold people in place so they can get range and snipe them. or even spirt link would be nice so they can gain hp as there pet attacks. A pve hunter might wanna focus on better scorpid stings and the such to weaken the mobs for the party.

I have a 31 almost 32 Rogue... when we get to play lol.
I have soloed the entire way other then 2 instances when my guild wanted me and the main rogue player was not online.

First, as stated we get stealth for getting around almost everywhere. Basically NOTHING sees us that is no more then 3 levels higher then us. Get the 10 sec vanish so Nada sees us.
We have Sprint that I can't tell how many times has saved my butt, that coupled with Vanish will will get you instant deagro and save your life in 99.9999999999999% of all fights.
Second, our DPS is excelent for all solo or 2 on 1 fights one level higher or below.
Third we get lockpick and Pickpockets for cash gaining. Lockpick will eventually open any chest and we are the only class that can do that.
Forth, Poisons, not a biggie but they do bring an added ability, slows that some other classes dont have.

Fith and most important... DODGE, with dodge we almost never get hit, well at least I dont. Pally will get hit for small damage and has the HP but we hardly get hit once Talents are used to improve it.

All in all the stealth Vanish sprint evasion is the main reason we are the best solo class. We get to pick what we fight and where and how many. When things go awry we Vanish away and try it all over again without getting killed.

I have to say, PvP rogues have some good times. Since my majority of time is being spent in Hillsbrad at the moment, I get swamped with alliance. With sneak and fast, high damage, ive killed a few alliance members as high as 4 to 5 levels above me. But again, I agree with every one else, all classes can solo. Its all about the person behind the character.

/em starts to mass produce the "There is no Best" brands.

Who wants one? The bat doesn't seem to be working, maybe if we brand it on them...

This has got to be one of the most inane points being raised in this thread. OF COURSE the 32 Rogue died to it - it's Elite. You're not supposed to be soloing them at anywhere near a comparable level. Think about it.

Edit: If you're soloing them at a comparable level, then it's one of three things: You've got a great pet, you really know your class, or you've found an exploit. I offer no opinion (and don't really care) which one it is.

Hey, I'm gonna throw one in here for the warriors. Once I got equipped with armor and weapons comparable to my level, I've had a pretty good run at fighting higher level mobs or multiple mobs around/below my level.

I think as long as you learn your skills and build your talents around how u like to play, any character is just fine for solo PvE.

Despite all the negative press the warrior has gotten over forums everywhere, I'm really starting to like playing him. Makes it tough, cause I have a Shaman who just hit 20 as well. Both are a lot of fun.

What bobhope said: Any class can solo really well. To the person who thinks priests can't solo, explain to me why so many of the first people to get to the top were priests, given the low all-around percentage of priests?
