Need Advice Concerning A WandFollow

My Mage alt now has a wand. I was really excited until I used it. I didn't realize it was a range weapon. When I use it, I see no damage even though it is suppose to do 11.9 DPS (Greater Magic Wand). Do others experience the same thing where the wand really makes no difference? I'm not really sure how to use it. I can cast to pull so why use the wand?

If you didn't start wands of right away your prolly getting resited because of the skill lvl in wands vs the lvl of the mob. I started using a wand at 8 and got resisted alot til the wand skill was pretty close to cap
I use my wand when I fight with low mana so my mana has a little extra time to regen. Also nice to have because it cant get interupted ,from what I know, so nice to have if your getting hit alot and its taking forever t cast just one spell.

Its all about the mana management.
Wands are for sustained DPS. When your in a group you dont want to get close to a mob or waste all your mana on one mob, so it is helpful to continually cast your wand.
In soloing it is good because it is ussually faster than your staff, so you can bash a mob, and then go to the wand.
