I'll copy paste a post I made when somebody said Gil Seller would ***** WoW's economy like it screwed FFXI.
As the problem created by money sellers (i.e. providing huge amount of money to people with no in game efforts) are similar to bot fisher (providing huge amount of money with no in game effort).
Quote:
You see, to put in in FFXI term, all the 'cool' items, you know those that are ridiculously overpowered for their level? (leaping boot, emp hairpin, huabergone, etc)
Well, in WoW, they are ALL rare/ex.
Items are color coded see.
Gray -> Junk
White -> Normal (most people don't use those)
Green -> Good (those item bind upon equiping, so if you use, you can't sell it back to the AH or trade it to player. You can only sell it to vendors)
Blue-Purple-Red -> Powerful item, those are all rare/ex.
All quested item are rare/ex as well, regardless of color.
So you just bought 100G from Ebay.
Good!
Now what are you going to do with it?
You can deck yourself up in Green items at the auction house. Although those plentiful and easy to find on mob. My character only has Green and Blue item, no white - and that happened naturally.
You can buy tons of potions. That will give you an edge, but nothing tremendous. The higher level potion require a level cap, so you'll have to actually get to their level before being able to use hem.
And you can buy your level 40 and 60 mounts (altho that one is 1000gold), which while useful, certainly isn't a necessity.
FFXI = Money is king. Money is life.
WoW = Money is a nice thing to have. Nothing more, nothing less. Doing normal questing will give you plenty of gil to buy your level upgrade and get a couple little trinkets on the side.
Will we have money sellers? Sure. Do we care? Not really.
