It takes a communityFollow

I just wanted to take some time to point out something positive i've noticed so far on WoW... The community is great. I have had 10x as many positive player interactions as i have negative ones. I'm kind of curious as to why this may be... I played EQ for a long time off and on, and i always seemed to meet the totally immature people who

a) thought every word they said in the general chat had to be 4 letters.

b) blamed everyone else but themselves when something went wrong

c) were just morons.

I guess im kind of curious if this is a common theme on all servers and factions on this game.. I play on the Garona server, which is PvE. And i am an alliance member. I have read tons of things here on this message board referring to mining gankers, or treasure chest stealers, or people camping corpses and being all sorts of rude. I had a theory that i was kind of wondering about but afraid of getting flamed for, but here goes anyhow...

Is there a possibility that most of the 1337 immature people that cause so much grief to those of us who just want to get on and have a good time for a few hours are playing PvP pretty exclusivly, so that they can make their super uberness known? Most of the complaints i've seen here seem to be from people on PvP about other people just being rude..

I guess as a public service announcement i would like to say to all of you people who are unhappy with rude players on your server, join up on garona... seems friendly and nice to me, i Love it.

Yes. Despite PvP being more fun in terms of ruleset it does draw the worst of us.

The negative interactions definitely do exist - go check out the official forums at worldofwarcraft.com and you'll see nothing but negativity. But I think the morons are migrating there, and I agree with you wholeheartedly in saying that the WoW community is the most positive I've experienced (which isn't saying much, I only played FFXI before this).

I've had a few run-ins with idiots on my server, but they're so few and far between that they're unnoticable. The bad outweigh the good by a rediculous margin. I'm on a PvP server, too.

This morning, someone in Darkshore was asking how everyone was doing and what they were up to. No one told them to shut up, instead there were a handful of really polite, friendly responses. We chatted for awhile about being excited about winter break coming up.

Every time I've grouped with other players in order to complete quests, it's been a really pleasant experience. Myself and a Dwarven Paladin had attempted to take on an elite mob by ourselves, only to fail a couple times before laughing about it, repairing our armor, and getting another person to help us out.

Orcs far stronger than myself have left me alone in the name of good sportsmanship. Other players have come to my aid when I was on the verge of death just as many times as I've helped out other players in desparate situations. There's a really great sense of community that already exists, save a few uber players.

I think this comes largely from the fact that WoW is (comparitively) a very low-pressure MMORPG. It's based off of fun, and exploration, and non-competitive cooperation. I think the great community that I've experienced thus far just comes from the fact that everyone is having so much goddamn fun playing the game.

If you asked me to pick one reason why I dropped FFXI for WoW, the community would be it.

Personally, I just started WoW, and haven't even decided what server to be on for sure. So, I can't say too much about the community yet. The official forums kind of had me worried, they are pretty negative over there for the most part. Also, the first day I was on the general chat was filled with l33t speak and people being general asses. It didn't take me long to switch to another server.

Coming from playing EQ for the last 5 years, I'd have to say the community there was great for the most part. Especially in the early years. I'm hoping WoW will be that way too. And it's nice to see that a few people feel that it is, at least.
