Hunters Useless? Or CB Elitism?Follow

I was somewhat disturbed when I found the following excerpt:

Quote:
Hunters and warlocks are.. well hunters and warlocks. They simply don't fit. If you are a hunter or a warlock in a high level instance people were either just INSANELY desperate, or you have some really close friends/guild buddies.

Hunter is a GREAT run around soloing class. It really is the best. People can get high level on a hunter fast solo, but the issue is that they are GOING to often be solo. People don't seek hunters out for instances. I remember hearing something I found funny one day in guildchat, "does anyone need a hunter for an instance?"  It is basically a rhetorical question.

What?

Is this the elitist babble of a closed beta "ub3r" player or is there any truth behind it?

The way I saw it, as a Hunter I can do some really good damage and my pet can tank or backup tank or serve as an extra tank when fighting multiple mobs. I can also enfeeble in the form of stings, and can heal my pet while it's tanking.

I am very much interested in doing high level instances...

What's going on here???

EDIT - to clarify, I'm talking specifically about high level instances ....

Hunters are really good to party with for elite quests. Hunters have kicked my Rogue butt various times in a duel.

Hunters, in a cookie cutter group, are dps, and are good at it.

In the more likely pick up groups they are ussually tank/offtank.

In high level instances the elitests wont ussually seek you out, simply because they want the best tank(warrior), the best healer(priest), the best dps/cc(rogue/mage). This will change on the course of availability of course, specially since on alliance pallys can tank just as well, druids and shamans if speced right will heal just the same as a priest, and hunter/warlocks have a lot more utility than pure dps(offtanks, soulstone resurection, other little additions).

In other words, yes, elitist psychobable.

Hunters rock anywhere. They may not be as good at solo PvP as some other classes, but in all other cases the are great.

Admittedly I have yet to do the high level instances, but quite frankly I think this person has no idea what they're talking about.

Hunters serve two pretty important functions while in the party (well at least the ones I've been in). The first is crowd control. They can engage multiple mobs easily, and also between use of a pet, and a few key abilities pull mobs off healers and/or weaker characters pretty easily. With wing-clip and concussive shot we can usually prevent runners from bringing new mobs to the fight.

The second thing is scouting/intelligence. That's why we have a dozen tracking abilities. If you're looking for a particular mob, or simply want to know how much is going to aggro when you go to attack the mob around the corner, hunters can tell you that.

The enfeebling and pet tanking you mentioned is also a bonus for any party.

Quite frankly I think this is a joke.

I played beta to level 29 as a preist. Hunters were good to party with. They were good tanks and decent damage dealers.

hunter and warlock do kinda... slow down -_-;;

warlock just suck at high level (sorry!) and hunter? -_-;; i love the class but the pet dmg is geting to be a joke to a mob even or 1-2 level higher... and pet def? it's 2k at my level (41) and my deff after 40 is 2.5k. sure pet was a great tank but with no talents in the pet... it starts to get hit for alot...

don't get me wrong :D i love playing as hunter :D but don't lie to your self :D higer you go you will find that to compared to other class your dps and your role will be.. questioned...

and winning a duel means noting, when comparing class.

like i said i love hunter class :D and love playing it :D it doen't mean that i will look other way and tell ppl that there is noting wrong with the class :D

i am sure that all things are going to change/fixed :D soon or later :D

love hunter!!!!!

Hunter can never be useless. Neither can anything else. Sorry this isn't one of those other games where race/class might actually mean anything.

I'm not sure if you would classify this as a high level situation, but it's the best I have to offer. :)

My guild was putting together a group for an instanced dungeon. At the time, they had a mage, a rogue, and warlock. They were waiting for a tank and a healer... and waiting.. and waiting.. (considering I've seen all of three priests in 31 levels, I figured they'd be waiting for a while)

Anyway, my buddy and I offer to take up the last two spots, and the group reluctantly agreed. Being both hunters, the group assumed we were in trouble. :)

Anyway, I tend to have a domineering and forceful personality, so when we showed up, I took charge (it also helped that I had done the instance once before, and no one else had).

The two hunter pets (I use a spider, my fellow hunter used a bear) would instantly take agro on a mob, with myself off-tanking the third (which there rarely were). Between my "Mend Pet" spell, the insane damage that only a 5 DPS group can put out, and l33t skillz (kidding) we were able to finish the instance, kill the boss, and walk out of there without anyone dying.

This was around a level 30 dungeon, sorry if I failed to mention that.

Anyway, the point of this lecture (if it can be called that) is to try to say "Yes, Hunters have uses as either DPS or as tanks. While we ourselves do not have taunt, our pets have a taunt that excels (it's not uncommon for a tank to not be able to pull agro from my pet), as well as being usefull for pulling and tactics (Tracking helps a great deal with these last two)."

Thanks, sorry this is so long.
