Enchanting...Is it for me?Follow

I have heard that enchanting is a good profession for a mage and it sounds interesting as well. I am a casual player, 8-10 hours per week, and wondering if this profession is maybe more time and money intensive than others.

If anyone has any insight into this professions demands please let me know. If it is what I fear it is...too time intensive and costly, could you please suggest a more casual profession...If there is such a thing.

Thanks

Enchanting is meant to be the hardcore tradeskill. It's pretty difficult because you need a steady supply of green items to disenchant. If you do choose enchanting, the only other tradeskill that you should do is tailoring, because you can make a lot of green items with linen and use them to disenchant.

Also a note: the master enchanter is in a lvl 40-50 instance.

Enchanting is a tremendous money sink at low levels. The Uncommons and Rares that you put towards this is money out of your pocket, in a way.

If you really want to do Enchanting, do Tailoring with it. Start with the Tailoring, and don't worry about Enchanting until you can make Brown Linen Robes. Make those whenever you have spare linen, and there's an easy source of cheap disenchantables - but even then, it's still not easy.

I'm currently 165 in Enchanting. While I can occasionally sell some of the harder enchantments that I can do, it's rarely for anything close to the value of the items I disenchanted - and the only Enchantment that I can routinely sell is Beastslayer - and they don't want it for the effect, they want it for the look. (Red glowing weapons are cool, I'll admit)

So... don't get into it thinking that it'll pay for all of your spells as you level. That's not going to happen.
