Switching from EQ2 to WoWFollow

#1 Dec 09 2004 at 10:47 PM Rating: Decent
I've played WoW beta a while back, and wasn't really impressed only due to the class custimization. Everquest 2 gave me a way bigger variety in picking a race, what my character will look like, and the class I could play. I also liked the fact that ANY race can be ANY class.

Well in EQ2 I'm playing an Assassin, but it's boring. I normally pick Monks in MMO's. However, in WoW Monk classes are not there
=( Which stinks because I would love to be a Tauren Monk. In Everquest 2 though, the only armor that I really can say looks awesome is mage classes. Looking around at the spell casting classes, me being a meleer in MMO's having no clue what would suite me best, found Druid.

Druid seems a lot of fun then any other mage type. In EQ2 Druids can transform into tons of animals, namely Wolves, Bears, Lions, etc. I'm not that sure how WoW plays out in this sense. What are the animals Druids can transform into in WoW? If I make the switch, the only race I find appleasing is Tauren, and fortunately they can be Druid.

Can a seasoned Tauren Druid tell me all of the animal forms available, how well solo will work out being I like to solo mostly, and then the overall appearance in game. A big let down in MMO's is armor looking dorky. Could someone perhaps post a cpl screenshots I could see of a Tauren Druid in higher level armor?

Thanks to all who reply and post ahead of time. *Note, the Wolf form in EQ2 looks so cool, that if there isn't a form equally impressive in WoW, I might not switch =( lol, sorry for being so picky*

I'm not a high-level Druid, but I've seen a few running around, and I have a lower-leveled Druid of my own... I'll try to answer the questions to the best of my ability.

Druids are predominantly a spellcaster class - but they have a ton of versatility, thanks to their different forms.

At Lv. 10, Druids get a Bear (melee) form. At Lv. 14, they get a Selkie (water) form. At either 18 or 20, they get a Travel form (but I can't for the life of me remember whether it's a wolf or a cat). I don't know if there are any higher level shapeshift forms, but I hope there are!

And all classes are equally capable of solo leveling - you just won't be doing any Elite quests solo.

I really want to know if their is wolf form in WoW for Druids =P I know Hunter's could tame Wolf for pets, but I'm clueless on the Druid aspect. I saw a pic of a Tauren in Druid stuff, and it looked really cool. I just need to know the weapons they use, since I know most WoW armor is colorful and fun.

Thanks for help. =)

I hate to say this, but if your hot buttons are appearance related you will probably want to stay with EQ2. I know you said it was boring but then you said if you could not be a wolf you would not switch. (???)

WoW is fun. Plain and simple, it is not slow or boring. You can get caught up in questing, solo your butt off, grind kills if you like or group in instanced dungeons. I have yet to even see a glimmer of boring in this game.

I also think the races and classes are cool. I like the cartoony feel adn I think that the graphics are excellent.

So, I think you need to ask yourself why you play the game. Do you want to stick with a game you call boring just because you can look like a cool wolf...or would you rather be playing a game you find fun and fast paced and look like something else? Be a cool looking but boring wolf or a big beefy and fun cow-dude.

Just my 2 cents. Not meant to be a flame, really. I just did not understand the EQ2 is boring but if I cannot be a wolf in WoW I am not switching.

My Tauren druid is only level 5, but they are really fun to play. My main druid is level 22, here's what I know.

Bear form at level 10. Awesome for taking damage, gets a Taunt ability for tanking.

Aquatic form at level 16. Breathing under water == awesome. You look ugly...but that's ok it's not used often.

Cat form at level 20. This is your DD form; doesn't take damage very well, designed similar to a rogue with backstabbing abilities as well as stealth. Very awesome looking form, powerful, great for taking down enemies quickly if you plan correctly.

Travel (Cheetah) form at level 30. 40% movement increase. Looks sweet too, but more aero-dynamic and fast than powerful and mean.

Druids get a bit everything, healing spells, damage spells, Cat form is awesome for melee, although Bear/Seal form *do* look just a little weird. I enjoy druid very much, it's versatile and fun, but you have to get a good strat for soloing if you want to fight really strong mobs, but once you get it down you can end a battle with close to full health.

I can't wait for level 30 personally :) travel form will be so awesome.

Hi there Outlaw :) Har..two EQ2ers coming to the WoW boards! I too am thinking of giving WoW a try (though I have no intention of quitting EQ2). From what I played in beta, and especially what I've heard, it seems WoWs solo game is truly much better than EQ2s. Being a soloist myself, thats a huge, huge bonus for me. For you high levelish WoWers, is it true that soloing is not only possible, but not mind numbingly tedious all the way to the level cap? If there was one thing that ticks me about EQ2, is it at first seems solo friendly, then at 15 its a serious brain pain.

The overall gameplay of WoW is better than eq2, the group system and sharing quests is amazing! I group with my RL friends all the times, and I see pickup groups all the time, its fun and easy, and the rewards are worth it, EQ2 was boring from 10-22, then I quit......cant really say much for after that, EQ1 was boring after 65, 70 is pointless....WoW just makes the most sense out of any MMO ive played, if you play pvp that is, which is the only way to play WoW IMO, anyway, I hope this helped a bit, and I hope you try it, best 49$ i ever spent on a game :P

Hmm..well that brings up a good Point. I don't PVP. Never much liked it in MMORPG's. So, is WoW's glory lost if you dont much care for PvP? I'm really unsure of my direction here. I like EQ2 alot. Nothing will change that, but I would *really* like to play WoW as well, seeing as how critically acclaimed it's become. However, if there's no sense in a Non-PvPer playing, well..i'd rather use my holiday money on another game!

Edit - Currently I have the game in my virtual cart at ebgames.com..thats how close i am to buying it :)

EDIT 2 - Guess I'll find out soon how the game is, because I just bought it :) yay

I really have to thank The Honorable lhuffman. What you said makes great sense to me, and after reading your post, I'm convinced I have to get WoW. I won't quit EQ2 right off the bat, but I am going to invest 2+ weeks as a Tauren Druid to see how it pans out compared to an EQ2 Druid. I feel a little dumb that I bought the 90 dollar edition of EQ2, if I will end up going to play WoW =P But, I really do need to play the game that offers the most fun.

Thanks to all, and I'll post again once I have WoW. Should be tomorrow =D

As long as you stay in a PvE server, you'll be okay PvP wise since you will not be forced into it. I assume the biggest problem you have with PvP is the attitude of PvPers, right? Just wanted to let you know that both factions have languages that are not understandable by either side so you will not be taking verbal abuse from those who decide to grieve you. Even if you are being grieved, the local defense channel is always there to call for help. Trust me, it helps.

As for the PvE portion of the game and soloing, yes you can solo and yes it's quite entertaining but as with any MMO, the game shines in groups. Don't worry, there is no camp exp in this game rather, this game group wise will focus on high lv quests and elite quests that take place in instance dungeons.

Instance dungeons is where the game truely seperates itself from all the rest. You will be placed in a environment that has a whole story that connects with the game's overal story. There are various quests within this one area (gained through other towns around that area) and you will be exploring this one area till you fight an end boss. The end bosses are not there to give you an excuse to zerg them, though and require stragety to overcome them. One such example is the end boss in Shadowfang's Keep. The boss will be performing a certain ability over and over again, making him near impossible to keep up with. Using our heads, my party figured out how he will be unable to perform this certain ability over and over again and created a formation that does not allow the abuse of this ability. What ability is this? Who is the end boss? I'm not telling. That'll only ruin the surprise :D

FWIW, I played EQ1 to lvl 66, OoW did nothing for me, GoD was worse.

EQ2 has been fun, I have a lvl 11 bard (evil) and lvl 15 rogue (good). While I like the ability to solo, at 15 even yellows barely nudge the xp-o-meter.

Installed WoW two days ago and started a couple of characters on a RP server, then yesterday found a old EQ1 friend on a different server so made a character there. I havent been in EQ2 since instaling WoW, although I still like EQ2.
