Fear me, Ebay Sellers.Follow

This is a formal warning to all people considering seeling an account with a high level toon on it. The reason, you may ask, that i am doing this, is because you get the 30 year old fat *** without a life/job that lives with his boyfriend and thinks he is too good to level like the rest of us, so he gets his nice toon, and starts ganking us who want to go the real way. Thats all i have to say, except dont let me get your IP Mr. Ebay Salesman.

I think i have the support of all on this topic.

well, not necessarily all...i agree with you, but i doubt the 30 year old living with his boyfriend that has no job probably won't agree... just a hunch. =P

I think blizzard should just watch ebay and when the auction closes they should ban the char.

Or do it before depending on who you hate more.
#4 Dec 08 2004 at 2:45 AM Rating: Decent
that's actually a good idea... i haven't actually read the TOS for WoW but im assuming that ebaying is forbidden, so wouldn't bliz just have someone checking ebay and playerauctions occassionally to see whats happening? would make sense to me.
#5 Dec 08 2004 at 2:46 AM Rating: Default
This'll be my last post before bed... but, they should be required to list their IP Address on the page, so people, like me, who hate them and their auction can nuke their IP and hopefully burn their modem out (it can be done).

I'd watch the threats, if I were you. While there aren't many players who like eBayed items, this is still a private board, and threats and other stupid actions are generally frowned upon - and sometimes the sort of thing that can get you suspended.

I don't know Allakhazam's policies here, but I'd say that there's some sort of administrative oversight going on.

Ok can some explain too me whats so bad about buying and selling your account on Ebay. I see it like this I buy WOW, play the game for 6-12 months get a lvl 60 character, get bored with the game and the sell my character on Ebay for $150 bucks. Blizzard got paid $60 + $15x12($180)= $330. I recuberated $150. year entertainment cost me $180. So what? if its me still playing my character or some lazy slob that didnt want to spend the 6 months to develop the character, I did spend the 6 months to do it. so its not like the character wasn't always there. most likely this guy buying the character will spend the $150+ dollars and get bored with the game in a month anyways, these guys never stick around.
#8 Dec 08 2004 at 3:54 AM Rating: Decent
Don't know about other people, but the main problem i have with it is that 99% of the people who buy accounts for these games end up being maxxed level and having no idea how to play, i don't know if it is nearly an issue on this solo friendly game as it was in say everquest, but if i spent 6 months getting my character to level 65, then some idiot with an ebay account ends up in my group and routinely got me killed (happened frequently) it kind of irked me. Nothing like seeing a level 65 rogue asking me why he can't backstab with his 1hs.
#9REDACTED, Posted: Dec 08 2004 at 3:55 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Nuke there IP? You mean ping attack? WTF do you think thats going to do? Dude with an IP you cant do anything. If you wish I will give you my IP to do you worst. I dare you to. Because I know you cant. Your a computer n00b and know what your talking about before you try anything.

A year from now, most people won't care, because a Lv. 60 character won't be worth diddly. But right now, it can be big bucks.

There are a lot of different reasons why people dislike the "Max it and eBay it" attitude. First is what Jarlaxyle quoted: The desire not to end up grouped with someone who doesn't have the first clue how to play his character. Second is the belief that many eBayed accounts are bought by griefers, out to run around and slaughter anyone and everyone they can.

Finally, there are a number of us who are simply indignant that something we enjoy is being reduced to a cash grind - instead of being a gaming experience, it starts devolving into an economic mentality. How much is this Absurd Flange of the Baleen worth? Can I get $10 for it? How about this Reticulating Spline of the Llama? I'm sure that's worth $42, easy.

Even if I were of a mind to grind out 16 hours a day, I still wouldn't bother doing it - there are quite a few "spoilers" running around eBay, looking for auctions they don't like (particularly ones like this) and making "nuclear" bids with no intention of paying, just to keep the seller from selling.

Man, it must suck not knowing anything about computers. A hackers point of access to your computer IS YOUR IP ADDRESS.

Beyond that you can strangle a computers connection to death by IP, and no it's not by a "Ping Attack" which would be more commonly known as "The Ping Of Death".

Lycos screen saver attacks spammers

There is something simple and recent for you to understand what can be done with an IP address.
#13REDACTED, Posted: Dec 08 2004 at 4:22 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Okay mr smarty pants WTF are they gonna do to it? THEY NEED A BACKDOOR FIRST!!!! God damned n00b. Dont try to pwn something unless you know what you are talking about first. You need a way in via trojan or some other type of backdoor virus.

EDIT: And the link you posted was a backdoor. Someone installed it. Not via IP n00b.

Did you even read the link. Do you even know anything before you talk. The link talks about how users can sign up to the program and download the screen saver. Then when ever the screen saver runs and they are connected to the internet it will select at random from a list of companies they know to send out spam emails and it will send HTTP requests to their websites IP address creating traffic. Through the build up of a couple thousand people it will begin to eat up a vast majority of their bandiwdth and slow down all traffic to and from the site.

They could easily shut the site down with enough people hitting it up, but doing so would be in violation of internet laws so they state that they will limit the traffic to any given site.

Now as for your other confusion. If a hacker had your IP address that is what he would use to try and scan your computer to find out basic information. After determining you are no one important he would commence to try gaining access to your computer directly. If you have any form of Firewall it will either slow him down (If he is smart enough to get in) or stop all his attempts.

What your thinking of when you say Trojan is VERY much different. Let's say you got a Trojan virus on your computer through email for fun ok, and that this virus was set to send a signal back to him. Now that signal would be it giving him your IP address so he can find you. Let's also say that the virus is also setup to provide a back door by telling your Firewall (If you have one) to open up a various port of his choosing. He then AFTER connecting to your IP goes to that port to get into your computer. Now if you don't have a Firewall then half the middle man is cut out and his virus simply opens a port.

How about you learn something in life instead of jumping like a monkey calling people n00bs when you think you know what your talking about, but obviously don't.

Understand before you post again that one of the two of us has taken several college classes that have discussed HEAVILY on this issue.
#16REDACTED, Posted: Dec 08 2004 at 6:52 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Which you said I already know. And guess what? I learned it all on my own I didnt need any schoolin. So pwned right there. And I did read that link. If your so big you still never stated why hiding your IP is so important. If your so big I will show my IP right here to prove no one that comes near this site can do anything. I only know ONE person that MIGHT. And firewall? Pshh any REAL hacker could easily get around that ****. Shall I post my IP? Or is your schoolin not good enough. Mr Pimp you know nothing stop trying to argue about something your school taught you nothing. I know your IP CAN mean something but nothing to worry about. Like you said he has to have a way in and how can he get a way unless there is a backdoor program of some sort? Pwned.

It's not like a single DoS attack from a college connection can hurt anyone with more than a 14.4kbps, and a DDoS attack can easily be blocked by a firewall.

While there are clueless people who don't know how much harm an IP can do, there's even less people who know how to use it to cause harm, and even then, most of those people are script kiddies, so they wouldn't fit in the category of people who know how to use an IP address.

Now, the most retarded thing to do is to threaten to hack/DoS/mailbomb/whatever someone on a message board. Your e-***** doesn't grow 10 inches when you say that, and I don't think anyone is actually scared.

Yay, that's all for my rant.

If you knew anything you would understand that an IP is a lot more then what you give it credit for. Let us say your computer is a door, and we will assume you have at least some form of a firewall. Now on the door are 2 locks. The bottom one (handle lock) is your IP, while the top one (bolt) is your Firewall. Sure in the case of having the Bolt lock they will have some problems getting through, but if they already have the bottom one then half the battle is over.

And I did read that link.

If you did then i'm sorry, as you didn't understand the link. Go back to your post where you try to call me a noob because it was about a "back door" as you called it. Since nothing about the post mentions a "back door" you simply make yourself look foolish.

If I didn't that is because you didn't read. Though I have already come to the conclusion that reading is hard for you to accomplish at this point. As for your comment about Firewall's if they were so easy to get around big companies wouldn't be spending so much money to have them. Stop making big assumptions on something i'm sure YOU know nothing about.

Go ahead it's your IP, and I never said that I could or would do anything. I simply stated what "can" be done with an IP. If you read anything here of me threatening your IP, I'd really like to see it as I know I didn't write it.

I also said to those reading that an IP is a way in. You don't need a "back door" to get into someone's computer, a back door just makes it so you avoid passwords, firewalls, etc.

EDIT: And if anyone was a good enough hacker they would not be at these forums.

Because you obviously know everyone.

I'm just amazed that someone has over a thousand posts and has a karma base that is below 2.

I think 99% of the universe would just make another account.

Of course reading his posts, I think I have an idea of why his karma is so low...
