im wondering if anyone else has had this happen. I was in Westfall with my level 12 pally today doing a collection quest. I had to collect 15 red leather bandanas from defias smugglers and trappers. I found a nifty little place that had about 7 or 8 of them that popped up occassionally. The nice thing is that there was a spot with at treasure chest that came up about 3 times while i was there, but i digress.

so i was there for about an hour and probably killed 50 of the guys and got 14 bandanas....and i had just leveled, but i wanted to finish the quest before i went to the city to see my trainer. I figured another round of spawns and i should be all set right?

Wrong. I was there for about 45 more minutes killing these dudes constantly to get that final bandana. Does that sound like some sort of bug, or just really bad luck on my part? im not complaining becuase it was good experience, and i got some nice equipment from the treasure chests, but it just seemed a bit odd to me.

Yea getting the last drop of a set is always the worst.

At least its not what happened to me. Got 14 bandanas didn't die once, then via pop aggro and horrid luck I died 12 times getting the last one ; ;

This is my favorite part of questing. You're grinding out experience, but you don't notice it. Constantly killing mobs over and over for quest items. You can rack up some serious experience by doing these types of quests. Not to mention a little bit of cash from drops other than the quest item.

I think it was just bad luck. I went to Windshear crag to do the blueprint quest...drops randomly off of a random operator...there are several operators...never know which one is gonna have it. I had already killed 8 of them with no drop. Another guy shows up and stands next to me and we make small talk. He indicates that he is doing the quest too...I told him that two operators are gonna pop in a few right in front of us...when they do we each take one...he gets the blueprints and I get squat...I now have to wait and kill another 5 before I get it. Just the luck of the draw.

But, it was fun. They were low enough level to not get me much XP but I was breaking in a new pet who needed a level or two to catch up...it moved his XP bar pretty good and I had fun. It is fun to quest, even the ones like this because it is sort of a grind without knowing it as described above.

Yeah quest like this are awesome i spend most of my time questing and trying to raise skinning and leathercrafting. Lvling my character isn't even a thought anymore, and you knwo why?

BECAUSE IT JUST HAPPENS!!!

That is so great. I care more about my reputation and my professions than anything else. Quest, kill for an hour to get 15 of this, 8 of that, lvl, get +40 skinning, a couple of nice green items and a punch of leather to go lvl that with.

that is sweet^^

I do recall seeing a thread on the drop-rate somewhere, I'll try to find it after lunch...

I definately notice drop rates seem to taper off after being in an area too long. I have a certain favorite place to collect wool, I get crazy drops for the first hour or so, then it tapers off. Next day, same story...

So, my suspicion is that it could be true...

However...

That's some complex logic to program, I'd have to give Bliz the kudos if they actually went thru all that trouble.

Anyone else get the feeling "farming" is controlled in this fashion?

I think it's just a random thing. I had the quest where you have to collect blood from the mountain lions in Hilsbrad. The first 15 or so kills produced nothing. I was beginning to wonder if I was killing the right mountain lions, but next kill produced blood, and it was about one in 5 to get the last 9 I needed. It's just one of those things when random is thrown into the equation.

I totally agree with the point that it's a good way to get rid of grinding though. They did an excellent job of requiring you to invest time in leveling without feeling like that is what you're doing. It never feels like you're sitting down and grinding out xp. Now granted, it's obvious that this game is easier to level up in than some, but none the less, it never feels like work.

I do, however, know the feeling you're talking about Malyr when you say it feels like the drop rates are declining. I've had quests like that as well, where it just feels like the last one or two are never coming. I think it's just luck of the draw, and the anticipation knowing that there's only one more to go.

For some things it just seems like they have the drop rate cranked down real low. A good example comparison of good drop quest and a bad drop quest.

Bad Drop Rate
I had the smart potions quest from Ratchet where I needed to get Raptor Horns from I think it was Scytheclaw Raptors. Now I must have killed about 30-40 Raptors just to get 5 stupid horns.

Good Drop Rate
The keep that is below Ratchet where you go to get revenge for that guy in Ratchet about his boats being sunk. I needed several medals from the guards (I forget how many), and happily I got them on a 1:1 ratio in kills.
