Macros & ScriptingFollow

#1 Dec 06 2004 at 11:48 AM Rating: Decent
Hello fellas, been playing as a NE Hunter lately and I've got some questions for who ever might have had luck with making macros/scripts...As a Hunter using many shots and stings and ordering the pet around I click ALOT. I was thinking of making some kind of macro where my hunter casts Hunters Mark on my target, sets an Immolation Trap, fires a DoT sting, waits about 3-5 seconds for the mob to trigger the trap then order the pet to attack and so on, also want to make many other macros, but all I need is a push in the right direction. I would have searched the forum to see if this subject had been raised before, if I knew how ^^

Thanks everyone

Disclaimer: I know very little about macros.

That being said, I've read in several places that there is no 'wait' command for the macros. Hence you can't wait 3-5 seconds to do something. Just thought I'd mention it.

There is no wait/pause command specifically *to* prevent scripting. Or I suppose I should say, to prevent botting. At least this way anyone that wants to do it has to go out of their way with third party software and stuff.

Thanks guys for the fast reply.

And yes I've also read in many places that there isn't any 'wait' command, I like to confirm what I read with others =)

I also see how this could prevent botting, but, with no delay commands that means I won't be able to use 2 different actions in the same macro due to cooldown. i.e.: Hunters Mark and Immolation Trap. Or will the macro cast Hunters Mark and wait for the cooldown and then cast Immolation Trap? I will try and see, when I get back home from work that is... XD Anyways I will confirm this.

I really wanna look deep into macroing and scripting, I might make a guide of some sort on them if it works out.

I'm trying to figure out the same. For example, I'm a priest and I want to power shield the warrior, then target the Mob and cast a dot almost every battle right off the bat. I've tried:

/target Warrior_01
/cast PowerWord Shield(Rank 3)
/assist Warrior_01
/cast DoT(Rank 2)

But it gets errors and does not execute. I could break it down into two macros but the idea is to REDUCE the clickage here.

Any suggestions?

I haven't messed around with macros or scripting at all yet, as I've been too involved in the game, but I did run across a Cosmos command called "/in" that appears to do just what you're looking for. There is some knid of restriction on it, but I forget what it is.

I think it works like this:

/in # <command>

So, in a specified amount of seconds, the command you enter will be executed.

Hope this helps.... let me know :)

I did more research. Blizzard did this intentionally. /in is a Cosmos command, not Blizz and it does not pause casting.

How do macros work in this game? ie. What are the commands, is it similar to FFXI?

Hello once more everyone, I have found that the command I am looking for is not possible (I think) for now, BUT, people on this thread were nice enough to mention Cosmos (Never had it before) I have looked into it and frankly...WOW! it owns ^^

More shortcut bars and sooooooo many interface options including DPSPlus and Combatstats which I think help you find the right dmg with the right weapon, it also allows you to make mini-map markers and such, anyways for those who haven't heard of it I suggest you look into it, heres a few links to help out:

World of Warcraft forum about UI customization:
http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/board.aspx?fn=wow-interface-customization

Cosmos official site:
http://www.cosmosui.org/

Cosmos documentation (all the info you need):
http://www.wowwiki.com/Cosmos

Cosmos download page (alpha has more bugs and is more frequently updated and might have newer features but is not as stable as the beta (might crash), beta is more of a stable version that has been tested but lacks the update rate of the alpha version which might not have all the newer features that the alpha has. I chose beta since I want to enjoy the game and not have to reboot and relaunch WoW a billion times due to crashes, Cosmos.exe is the auto-patcher, everyone should have it):

Thanks to eveyone on this thread for the help and for those who I convinced to look into it, enjoy =)
