Speed Hackers?..Follow

#1 Dec 06 2004 at 1:42 AM Rating: Default
It crazy that there are already Hacks for this game, but I was hoping someone could tell me what a speedhack does, and how to recognize if a player is using one?

I think I have seen some hacking before in this game, and I wanted to make sure what I saw was indeed hacking.

Thanks,

Nat.

speedhacks are always pretty quick to happen and always pretty quick to get stopped too. All they do is make your character run faster.

How fast is "faster". Like if you were on a mount fast? Or like... Tram Fast?

You walking speed, your swimming speed, everything Movement. It would seem to sprint continously.. and I heard you can make it so fast that you travel 1 map in few seconds..

Don't use that link, its a spam site for making frauduent revenue from hits. There is no real content there at all.
I don't know yet if it installed spyware on my PC or not.

speed hacking also lags everyone else around the area in a HUGE way. also you will notice that the speed hacker will be skipping aka lagging all over the place. 1 second here the next second there. be aware that rogues druids and warriorsall have abilities to make themelves go faster. but you will know a speed hacker when you see on. beleive me

What about hunters? Aspect of the Cheetah/Pack.

Anyways that kinda reminds me of SOCOM1's speed cheat, you just seem really laggy.

More on topic again, shame to see that this game is already hacked, interesting since its a MMO. Well here is hoping blizz bans them.

Yea I know... Personally I didn't use them at all. Had a friend come over once and he brought his SOCOM and GS, he was able to do some freaky stuff.

Anyways back on topic:

I'm still really surprised that people were able to hack the game, I mean isn't that illegal in a MMO since your basically hacking the server side version also? I know you can get away with it in other games since you own the game, and while you technically own WoW your playing on a server that has the build of the game your hacking on it. If you get what I mean.

They're not hacking anything - at least, not in the way you mean. What they're doing is intercepting data packets that the client sends to the server and changing them. This is basic jiggery-pokery for the people who like to cheat.

Is speed hacking illegal? No. Is it against Blizzard's ToS? You bet your bippy. That's why there was a mass banning over it.

Yea, the TOS thing was never a question... legality was, and I get what you mean. They still working from their version, so they can do anything... Of course then you hit the TOS and you get banned >.>

Never take speed hacks as any serious threat. They have been there at the start of EVERY MMO, and they always will be.

Since your client game is telling the server how fast your character is running it is fairly simple for those that know how to create a hack that just simply tells the server you are running faster.

Generally if you see a person running fast for an obscene amount of time (not sure if there are any haste type spells or how fast they last but rogue is 15 seconds), then there is a chance of it being a hack. Though Blizzard has started out right Banning offends so I don't see it being a long run problem.

Well hunters have aspects that raise speed from 30-35% (I think about the 35%, I know 30 is the base then you can throw talent points to make it faster) and shaman has a form that raises speed by 40%...

Those are the easier cases thankfully. Just select the hunter and check what buffs they have on, and if you see the aspect that lets them run faster then you know they are clean. I think you mean Druid where you say Shaman though, but happily it's extremely obvious that it's not a hack.

No I mean Shaman. They have a spell called "Ghost Wolf" that increases movement speed by 40%. As far as I know, druid actually doesn't get any forms to increase speeds.

Edited to add the link to the spell.

Ahh, figured you were referring to the Druid's Travel Form. Didn't know Shaman's got one as well. Would help if I got either job past level 10, but I love my Rogue too much.

Ahh, I never knew they had a travel form, probably because I don't see many druids on my server and all about level 25 or below or in an area where your having to fight mobs for a quest.

Druid cat form (gotten at lvl 20) can also move 30% faster if the right talents are taken (minimum lvl for this would be 31, as it takes 21 talents to get the ability). And they get dash (50% movement speed for 15secs).

Those people will also look more "natural". They will be moving fast, but not skipping around the map. You would know the difference. Speed hackers will appear to "teleport" (disappear and reappear) around because your updates from the server will be at normal speeds, not the speed their client is uploading.
