Question on Replay Value and Lasting Value of the game.Follow

#1 Dec 02 2004 at 8:12 AM Rating: Decent
1)Does this game have a high replay value? Why is that?

2)Do you think most people will re roll characters, or get bored when they reach level 60?

3)Does this game have any lasting value? I heard that some people are already level 40+, and majority are level 20+, since release, which is just 1 week O.O So whats the lasting value which will keep people playing for years to come? I know theres PvP, but im sure people will get bored of it after awhile, maybe its cool in the first few tries..

Also, there is one thing that people keep forgetting: A gaming company does not release everything to a MMORPG in the first installment. How many expansions has Everquest have now? If you don't think there are going to be expansions, then you are kidding yourself. Also, take FFXI. The original level cap for that game was 50. They have raised the cap up to 75 so far. Who knows, that may be what is in store for this game as well.

Thing is, like you said, this game has only been out for one week. So there is really know way of knowing what is in store.

You do realize that basicly all 3 of those questions are the same thing right.

I think instead of re-play value WoW has more of a multi-play value. Instead of creating repitition that's fun you instead have the choice too look at the game with a whole new prespective at the same time. Because WoW is such a casual and laid-back game, there should be nothing stopping from making TWO main cahracters and taking the time to experience not the same adventure twice but uhh.. Twice the adventure at once!

EDIT* Noticed look at expansions, thought if any would like, i had a thread about it earlier, no need to re-post or bump it ill just link it here if anyones interested.

Ok where to start.

1) Nobody REALLY knows how the long term play will be. With the tremendous amount of cash Blizz is raking in right now I expect it to be very very good.

2) WoW is trying a new concept-- they are not making the game last longer just by making you grind exp longer. They intentionally made it so you level fast.

3) Raids- they had 2 raids implemented in open beta and neither was ever defeated. These are the 1st tier of raids.

4) PVP-

I suspect battle grounds and PVP oriented quests and honor rankings will give ALOT of high end game play.

5) Hero classes- further advancement after 60 to a prestige/hero class (still on the design board)

6) Re-roll- levelling in this game is actually fun <gasp> and if you pick a different race or faction it is a while new game.

7) Expansions-- there WILL be expansions, I'm guessing first in 6 months or so.

So it is all just speculation but it seems like the game will last a long long time.

Like Brinagh said, the original cap for FFXI was 50, now it's 75. You can bust your *** and get 1-50 pretty quickly in FFXI, but leveling 50-75 takes far longer. I've had friends that stopped playing FFXI because leveling after 50 was so rediculous.

However, leveling in FFXI was more often than not a chore, and leveling in WoW has been nothing but fun up to this point. Blizzard has already all but confirmed that the level cap will be increased (I think it's in the manual, come to think of it), so there'll be plenty of levels to grab after 60, and already there's far more end-game content in WoW than there is in FFXI.

Add that to the fact that you can have multiple characters for free, the fact that it's pretty easy to level quickly, the fact that each race has their own storyline, and the fact that there's two entirely different worlds/sides to experience. I'll definitely be playing more than one or two characters.

Think of this aswell... Just like Warcraft, you are worried about the other player and when/how they are going to attack! With the two factions as they are on the servers, it is in the factions best interests to have it's core members build up at least one high level char for the defence of the area and/or for attacking the other faction.

After the quick leveling of one char then the player can go on to other builds, race, class, questing etc now; Not to mention the fact that Blizzard, I'm sure, already has ideas and have extra playable stuff down the road.

Na.....Wow is going to be around for a very long time.

If I recall correctly I think Blizzard even stated that the game up to level 60 isn't even the best part. They were saying something like the game will begin at level 60 instead of end at cap like FFXI seems to do from what i hear.

World altering events is one of the things I remember them speaking of also. Something about I'm guessing extremely hard quests that are going to open up a new area for everyone else on the server to play on. I remember something being stated i think about a bunch of Warlocks unlocking another game area or something like that.

In fact, that was one raid mob, dunno is it there yet or coming.
However, they said there is going to be big bad mob and when u kill it you will have access to new area and so does every1 else in your server

If you pay attention to the quest story lines as well as the history so far it is very obvious that future expansions will allow char lvl as high as 80 as well as new races and or char classes.

Blizzard has said as mentioned prior that certain high lvl raids will open up new areas for everyone on the server. One instance that they specifically mentioned was the dark portal being re-opened and us being able to travel to Druenor.

Replay value is an old term used to describe single player games, and whether they were worth playing more than one time through, since once you beat some of them, you pretty much saw all there was to see. I don't understand why people apply this term to an MMO which can't be beat in the first place.

it's not so much about replay factor but rather "keep me playing past lvl 60 and capped professions" factor=)

The reason people ask about longtivity, inspite of the fact there is no "end" to MMO's, can be summed up well by looking at the MMO: city of heroes, great concept, I for one loved the idea of being a superhero, reading comics as i have since i was able to look at pictures) i played that game to death the first 6 or so weeks, then it hit me, what was there to do that was different, it was grind, get level, at level you ether upgraded an existing skill by the amount of power-up slots it had, or gained a new skill of your choosing, other then this you could buy or loot(more random then anything else) the powerups to go into the slots for your skills and you could earn the right to a new costume at lvl 20, did i mention you could grind to the next level?

All in all a very tedious process im sure you'll agree, in fact the best thing about city of heroes was starting a new toon, the options avalible for your costume and shape was absolutly staggering, and every MMO around could do with taking a leaf from their book

I digress anyhow=) sorry, what i'm saying is that as well polished and original a game is, nothing beats gameplay and longtivity in most gamers eyes, another example, thou this one good is this, after well over 7 years, i still like to play final fantasy 7, in fact i've completed it from start to finish around 4-5 times now, i just love it, the combnations of matiera(sp) seemed endless, still a system i don't think has ben beaten by any other FF game imho, this game isn't even online, but something keeps me coming back once in a blue moon to re-live past glories!

Thats what EQ done in many ways, but it became ruined by varent/sol's attitude of creating timesinks after timesinks

I'm almost praying WoW will capture me like EQ, and to a lesser extent, FF7 did.

Majria

PS sorry to go on=)
