Gamespot gave WoW a 9.5/10Follow

This is not a post about the quality of Gamespot.

I personally use the site as a reference when deciding what non-MMO games to buy. Traditionally, sites like Gamespot have always given MMOs pretty low scored and bad reviews - the games simply don't cater to the audience of these sites. People who frequent these sites are not looking for a game to take over their lives - and many MMO's are no good to people who cannot dedicate themselves.

Anyway - WoW marks the first time that Gamespot has ever gived a great mark to an MMO.

In case you want to read the review, here's the link:

I read a bit of the review and then fired up the video so I could listen to it as I worked from home earlier. Honestly, it sounded like Greg was about two drinks from going down on Rob Pardo 'n Co. Not to say that the game isn't great, but he was a frickin' ball of enthusiasm--which is very odd for him, could it be fake? Nah...

But, on the whole I absolutely agree with him; I think S-E's getting the cancelation notice very soon.

Someone said that this game had a low score. I think they were being sarcastic, or trying to be. Oh well, horrah Blizzard!

I just wana state first of all that I play FF XI and might be coming to WoW. However this does not mean that FF XI will lose almost all their players. People will still play because if you are a fan of Final Fantasy you can feel a lot of that flavor in the game and its really amazing. Also some people (like me) play on the PS2 and dont have access to a good PC (unlike me =P) so there is almost no chance of them skipping over. The people who play FF XI on PS2 is almost half (if not more) of the entire FF XI population.

Lordzanon your sig link should be something that's emailed to everyone that posts across America.

In other words it will be a mostly asian players playing FFXI and mostly NA playing WoW. I am a big fan of the final fantasy series, but I don't like the MMO very much. The only other MMO I really liked was everquest though I find WoW a lot more fun.

I was a FFXI player playing every one released in NA and loved them all. A friend told me about WoW about 8 months ago and he was saying that WOW was getting great reviews and I should check into it. I was scepticle at first and I then was told about the open Beta. I checked it out and all i have to say is GOOD BYE to FFXI. I killed FFXI and have been playing WoW ever since that. It is the first game that I can put down and start and not feel bad about it. in FFXI you spent hours getting a decent group to level smash and hours t9o complete quests for less than decent rewards. FFXI graphics were great. but WOW does give you more completable quests and fun in a group or a single setting. Hurray for Blizzard. Ohh and i read the whole review posted above. I do think they should have said more about the emotes the game gives as well as the night raids that seem to happen often. Raids Rock !

75 ranger on Titan in FFXI. I really was skeptical as well, I loved FFXI alot, I mean I was totally enthralled by it. I bought WoW simply because I maxed my ranger and didnt want to level another job. With that said....

WoW is amazing to the highest degree. The only problem I can see with it is the law of unforseen consequnces, i.e. PvP could potentially ruin the game ( I say this because noone here has played the game for 2 years, not even beta testers know what it will be like a long time from now). But really all they would have to do to fix this is make dire consequnces for killing really low players. I love PvP, but I strongly believe that there should be honor amongst thieves. Also looks like gil farming or gold farming wont be as huge an issue as it was in FFXI.

So to those FFXI fans who want something new, do not fear WoW, it is a better game all around than FFXI in terms of design, you cant really argue the other aspects as they are opinions. I would give WoW a 10 out of 10 and I was very pesimistic at first but now totally hooked. I have never seen a game that comes even close to the sheer magnitude, quality, and attention to game design detail and balance. Truly amazing.

It's pretty funny because if you read this board you would think FFXI was the only MMO out there when there are other better and more popular MMOs that have been out longer. It seems like every other post is I'm leaving FFXI for WoW.

Meh, if you are talking about EQ, keep in mind that the game has been around for 5 years. Whatever anyone was going to get out of that game has been taken and they have moved along. Add to the fact that the game is not as popular as the FF series in general.

As for FFXI, that game has been out for alittle over a year here in NA and already people are leaving in droves. Evidence of this are the threads that always pop up. God, how I love the FFXI v WoW threads...

Anyways, more better MMOs then FFXI? Of course. I personally think that CoH beats the crap out of FFXI. More popular MMOs then FFXI? Well, that's pushing it. FFXI is popular for the name brand. People know what Final Fantasy is but not many people know of CoH, EQ, DAoC amoung other games. Whether you like it or not, Druid, FFXI has the bigger name brand and attracts the most people, thus is the reason we get the most people from there flocking to their WoW/EQ2.

Just a thought...

Hey I agree with most of what you said, but I come from more of a Tolkien Lord of the Rings type of backround with Wizards/Rogues/Warriors/etc. I didn't actually play AD&D pen and paper, but I did play Baldur's gate/Baldur's gate 2, and a lot of other AD&D computer games as well as Ultima Online/Everquest/Asheron's Call 2/Star Wars Galaxies and finally at the end FFXI which I thought was the farthest from what I consider a MMO in many ways though it was fun at first it ended up like everquest but with a lot more rude people. Anyway I guess I just don't consider playing FFXI as your only MMO such a big deal to switch to something else when you haven't even tried other MMOs out there which are pretty damb good though WoW is the most fun I've had so far.

As I understand it there is an honor system in place. Killing other players much lower than you will result in a loss of honor. That basically lowers factions with ALL towns. So, do it often enough and there's nowhere you can go to repair/purchase items.

Maybe I was dreaming when I read this, but I think it's actually there... Am I the only one who has seen this?

I Could Point Out Why I Hate FFXI Now... But I Already Have In Another Post, So Ill Just Sum It Up... FFXI Just Isnt -FUN-
It Feels Like Work *sigh* It Was Fun At First, Y'Know Before I Knew Any Better... But Out Of All The MMOs Ive Played (UO,The Realm, EQ,DAoC, Nexus, Asherons Call, CoH, EQ2, FFXI, And WoW)

Only Asherons Call Really Compares To The General Crappiness Of FFXI, But I Think Given A Few Months, The Only Customers That FFXI Will Have Will Be The PS2 Players Who Dont Have The Option Of Playing A Better Game, And The Die-Hard, Square/Final Fantasy, Fanboys...

btw... Dont Worry Kingjord... You May Have Posted Something That Was Already Here... But We Fixed It.. The Threads About Something Else Entirely Now... :/

Looking at the total list (http://wow.allakhazam.com/forum.html) of boards on Allakhazam, I get the distinct impression that this is first and foremost an FFXI site. That would explain why everyone who posts here seems to be leaving FFXI.
