You can get one on the little farm that's between Ironforge and Theslamar that has the kill the named elite Yeti guy quest at it

i've gotten schematics for the mechanical squirrel twice around iron forge, once while fishing on frozen lake during stress beta, then again off a leper gnome in gnomeregan.
i guess that makes they'd drop there since the gnomes are so gadgety...
in case anyone wants a mech squirrel.
