The best overall solo classFollow

#1 Nov 29 2004 at 7:18 PM Rating: Default
OK, I've heard it all, "WoW is a soloable game for all classes". but I've also heard, "Yeah, up until level 20", and "Except for the Elite quests".

So if I want a completely solo experience (no, that's not what I really want, but with the times I play and the amount of uninterrupted time I have/don't have, this is my only realistic expectation), what is going to be my best shot as far as class goes?

I tried a bunch of the classes in beta and I would suggest a offensive warrior or a warlock.

By offensive warrior I mean that you would choose the warrior class but pick more offensive weapon skills. This type of character would give you great survivability with the ability to take stuff out fast.

You could also use a warlock. This class has pets which can be used to tank or do damage. The pet you get at level 10 is a great tank. This, added with the warlocks great damage over time spells, equals a great solo character.

The is really no "Best" solo class because all of them are viable, but these might be on the stronger side. Give one a try.

Cool, thanks for the info. I'm really hoping that these "Elite" quests can be put off until such time as I'm able to solo them. I truly like partying, really, but reality sets in at about 10:00pm that there IS no party available, and I still want to be active.

What about Hunters? - I do like the bows....

I haven't really had a problem soloing anything with my Hunter. If you get too many adds you'll have problems. But slow and steady and you'll be fine.

Don't forget, you have a pet to help you out.

For the elite quests, wait until they're green or gray in your quest log and you shoud be okay.

One thing to remember, the elite quests in an instance dungeon will still be very difficult solo if it's green in the log, there are ALOT of adds in instances (at least the ones I've been in).

I'd go with hunter cause if you get in trouble you can always sacrifice your pet.

Hunters are pretty good soloers I'd say only played one to 13 but oh well.

I'd have to say Warlock.. the Voidwalker tanks great and almost never loses hate, and you have fear to deal with small links. Elite quests can be hard if you get links.. but playing them safe you should be ok, I'd say wait at least untill they appear green in your quest log, if not gray. The problem with that though is by the time you get around to doing them, most of the rewards might not be worth it anymore.

well I'm a 24 shaman, mostly soloing painlessly. Only time I really group is with my guildmates when they need some stuff done or for an instanced dungeon. I don't know if its slow or not, but I do like being able to take on mobs 2 or 3 levels higher than me, no more than that or the resistanced spells go nuts. Rogue friend in our guild at 21 says he has a terrible time against anything two levels higher, but pound for pound the Rogues will out DPS me any day.

What I like about the shammie is that he's pretty well rounded, and is pretty much the second tier tank for the Hoarde, depending on yoru build. Ghost Wolf cuts down on travelling time and the totems are just fantastic. The water quest is the most annoying but completing the quest will total you around 9000+ XP for just doing it.

But yeah, pretty much any class, save the priest has major soloability. Our highest level character in our guild is a priest (28) but he's really into grouping a lot.

But yeah, pick what you feel is the most fun.

18 Tauren Hunter, with experince in OB up to 17 Tauren Shaman here. I have found that pound for pound the hunter is easier, as long as you are more careful.

The Shaman gives you more ways to deal with adds or unexpectedly hard encounters or aggros. As a Shaman you have your spells to help finish off an encounter faster, because as a hunter, once the monster reaches you for melee things can become tricky if an add shows up, or the monster is harder then you thought.

The Shamans ability to heal, do damage and more hit points then some of the other classes besides warrior are the biggest solo advantages.

As a Hunter if you have your timing down a monster should reach you with half or less then half its life left, which is the biggest advantage for the hunter.

Have to put my 2CP in this, have been playing a Nightelf Hunter here with a bear pet, so far up to level 18 it has been a great solo class, have been able to do most quests so far, and have caught groups where I needed them.
I am much like you in that my time to play just isn't the optimal "Group" time.
But again soloing now at 18 and soloing at 60 is like comparing apples and a t-bone steak, just different food groups. Mess around with all the classes you think you will like and once you find that one that floats your boat take it across the sea. Good luck

I may be a bit (a lot) biased, but I'd go with Hunter. Also, warriors can do well solo. Well, anything can do well solo...there's really no "best", but I like the way hunters play, so I go with that. =)

Hunters are nice for solo...the pet is a big help. I haven't really had a hard time with much stuff, just know when to cut your loses and run. The thing is, all the classes hace ups and downs for solo. Paladins can take a lot of hits but they don't dish out as much as other classes. Warriors can take almost as many hits as a Paladin and definitely hit harder but they don't get the benefit of a Paladin's buffs or ability to heal. Mages are great for DD as long as the mob is at a distance. You just have to base your choice on how you want to play.

Don't stone me, but i'd really have to go with a warrior for solo. His skill/abilities can take on 2 mobs, same level, and come out the victor. Just spend talent points right and your set, as well as camp a lot so you can constantly keep a good weapon/armor on board.

well, with my lvl 18 rogue ive diced up 4-6 mob levels higher then me, but it takes alot out of your health and usually it takes a long time beacuse you have to get your health back and everything to perfect or you die,so all you do is kill one at a time then stealth, slow and steady will win the race :p

Warlocks are great but it requires a high amount of skill to know what spells to cast and when. One of the biggest issues is also inventory managment. You have to have a lot of soulshards on hand at times and some spells take 2 of them. I can roll thru 6 in a matter of minutes and these things don't stack.

If you do get a add usually it's on you and since you wear cloth you can have issues. fearing is ok but when it comes bac it's gonna bring friends so that's not alway's a effective way of crowd control. Like I said it takes a lot of skill to play a warlock. Powerful class but a tricky one too.

Paladin...

-Heavily Armored

-Can heal themselves

-Has Devotion aura, very early to learn and very high DEF increase

-Key Point Coming up-

-The many lesser forms of divine shield...

Starting from level 6 you get divine protection for 6 seconds.

What does this mean? no matter how many add ons you have, no matter whats after you...If you've got space to run then 6 seconds is enough time to make any mob get bored off you and stop chasing you. And if that doesnt suit you, 6 seconds can get you about 1 and a half casts of holy light. Which at many intervening levels means a full heal.

Starting from Level 10 you also get blessing of protection. Used in unison with divive protection this nets you 12 seconds of heal/run/buff time. That is QUITE good.

It's all about staying alive yeh baby...
#21REDACTED, Posted: Nov 30 2004 at 5:27 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I would have to say rogue. I take out stuff 3 lvls above me and with evasion I take out stuff 4 lvls above me. Hard though but sometimes i can do it. 2 vls above me are nothing.

If your level 21 rogue friend can't handle level 23 mobs, he's doing something wrong. At 19, as long as nothing goes wrong, I can take a level 23 mob on myself.

Im a 22Druid and I have had no problems soloing mobs 2-3 lvls higher than me if I play it safe. Druid has all of the goodies of a healer, tank, and melee when you look at the abilities and spells.

Cat Form: Rogue- High DPS, stealth, combo attacks, energy bar.
Makes a great melee if you allocate Talent point in a certain way.

Bear Form: Warrior- High HP, High Armor(Defense), taunt(Growl),and good damage along with stun and debuffs.

In my opinion all classes in WoW are soloable, while some things are easier with a group, but can be soloed if taken carefully. I would recommend either a class with high dps for fast kill or one with healing and good hp for long survivability.
