Gameplay wise, the racial traits are minimal, though it is worth noting that as a Dwarf, your gun spec. will get more than the usual use. The most important consequence of your racial choice is the location in which you begin playing, what kind of quests you will tend to get, ect. For hunter especially, the kinds of animals you encounter will vary the most depending on your start location.

Pros and cons of both would be racial traits probably. Night elf racial traits at:
http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/races/nightelves.html
Dwarf racial traits at:
http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/races/dwarves.html
Seeing how the attributes tend to even out near level 60, dont even look at them.

I was in the same situation you were while waiting for retail to come out. I chose Dwarf because I like using guns, rather than bows. Yes Nightelfs can use guns too but Dwarf starts out with them.

for some reason guns just don't seem right for a fantasy game in my opinion :P

The NightElf starting place in my sever always seems to be pretty crowded. I dont like Dwarf starting area ither, but as soon as I made mine I walked him to Northshire (Stormwind).

Let me no what you decide.

Yes you tame beasts as a hunter and they follow you around anything from a raptor to a bear.

Guns are in lots of fantasy, its not like Dwarves are carrying around an M-16 or a Uzi :p
