Well i'm not an engineer but I would maybe guess just right-click on it like you were to open it. Maybe also use the explosives while targeting the chest? I would try those two and see if they work.

Im guessing certain explosives... go to a major city and see if you can find the schematics for such an item.

Well I think the first step to figureing this out, Eireann, is to see if if Lafarga has actually tried to interact with the chests before posting here. Judging by the post I don't think he/she has yet and was just wondering to save time.

I have tried interacting dynamite with the chest, (just wont happen) right clicking on the chest will not open it either, my guess is that it is a skill to be learned at later levels.
Luckily enough for me a kind Rogue picked the lock for me.

To save time? yeh saving time is actually logging out of the game and coming here to post and then waiting for people to reply. I use alla as a last resort AFTER trying everything
just so you know ;)

Actaully I find it can, at least when there are a couple active people on the forum. I keep a borwser window open to the create a topic screen while i'm in game, then alt-tab out and create a topic if there is something i'm wondering. Don't have to sign out and it only takes as fast you can type to be back in-game. Thats just me though.
