Now I haven't gotten the game yet, but I was just reading a review on gamespot on WoW and somebody said they were hacked within the first 10 minutes of logging in. Is this actually true? Are hackers really that prominent in WoW?

Well I havent seen any hackers but I doubt its easy. Code is not that simple. And its all server side whihc makes it harder

pure bull. prob a fanboi from another game. Unlike free games all info is saved on sever side, thus if you cannot tamper files.

After all the time it was in closed beta i do know blizzard will have inside testers to try to hack into the game to see if they can get away with it.

What is true is that once wow was launched they where overwhelmed by the amount of people who puchased the game. 200,000 on the 1st day alone. Blizzard wasnt rdy for so much people thus lag was quite abundant as they struggled to open new servers to accomodate all the people, thus they had a lumpy start. on day 1 they had 47 servers now they have 88 and they are continuing to make more as more people puchase the game.

because of the lumpy start this sparked some people to complain like henpecked kids dispite that blizzard is going to extend their free trail time.

how much longer is the free trial?

Like said above its pure bull. The only real hacks that could possibly be made are speed hacks and those are usually brought down quickly because its easy to spot them.

its to be determined since more people are expected to join the game and pushing blizzard to open even more servers. fridays around the corner and those who have been waiting to get paid to get the game will most likely flock into the game and causing more downtime on the servers.

since blizzard did anounce the freetrail extention this will buy them time to stabalize the servers even if they have to shut them off on offpeak hours. who knows if it takes em a week to di it right well we might get a week more before paying.

Might not be bull, he could have had is account stolen. However if he was not lying and this was the case it probably was a trojan and had nothing to do with wow. I don't think there is anyone hacking wow yet, but don't think that it is so bullet proof, closed realms of d2 got hacked you shouldn't under estimate how far some hackers out there will go.

Scion im assuming your new to Masive Multiplayer Role playing games.

D2 was a single player game with a option to play online. The online service was free and all the info was saved on the user ends side.

That said it is easy to hack and you dont even need experience to hack. you can open a file and change some numbers and bam your ubber. This is true for any free service.

a MMORPG is a Paid service, we consumers pay to keep our online world hack free and hostile free. all info is saved on server side and any changes on the client side will result in falure to log on the game because a file was currupted.

Only known hack to hit a mmo is a speed hack to make your char a bit faster than the rest. However itseasy to spot and those who use it get banned.

Thats what gms are for we pay for them to weed out those who attempt to cheat or harrass other players or try to lie them out of their money.

Theres a huge difference in Online games and Masive multiplayer online games.

It is POSSIBLE the game got hacked, but highly unlikely. Someone could have tried to analyze the packets going back and forth between the client and the server to determine what the data means.

This is why FFXI crashed as soon as you tabbed out. You weren't supposed to and that made it harder for people to 'packet sniff'. With WOW not having that feature, it may be possible to hack. However, given the fact the the people at Blizzard aren't completely stupid, they probably have enough security within the game system to ward off any possible hacks....for the time being.

I honestly doubt it's possible to hack this game. If all information on this game is not on our computers, the only way a hacker could hack is by doing so within the company. Bots could be made, yes. Just strings of looped commands and all that jazz, but hacking...now. I say, do not fear any threat of such things in WoW. I hope this helps put your hearts at ease.

couple words on my end :

HACK FREE = HAPPY MMO players

SPEEDYHACK = ************************************

I personally enjoy a cheat and hack free game, makes it challenging, fun and rewarding when you FINALLY get that damn quest done. (I died like 20 times trying to get a chest from a sunken ship, with dozens of aggro mobs around me).

And above all, makes it WORTH your MONEY. And well, hacking in MMO's usually costs you EXTRA cash right? where's the logic in that? So i leave you all for now with a strong phrase :

"We're all willing to pay a little for a wonderful experience in a magical realm"

want proof? check the sales for WoW in the first 2 days :)

IF he did I would make the safe bet he probably tried finding some Bot and downloaded it, and it turned out to be a key logger and he didn't know it. SO he logged in and it logged his key strokes and when he found out the bot didn't work he probably logged out. Then it probably sent the key log to the creator of the key logger, and then he logged in and changed all the key info to make it his.

For someone to actually single out a user and hack into them within that small a time frame is a bit unbelievable to me.
