Why do people get offended at that guy for having an opinion, its a game, yet people act like its a personal assault when they express that they like WoW better than FFXI. Really, I'm of the strong belief that you shouldn't judge till you play both.

Anyways, I think some people are getting all riled up on that thread over nothing. its quite sad.

well it'd sorta be like posting a FFXI is better than WoW on this forum. You may have your very good personal reasons but It's gonna get flamed cuase of where you posted it.

The reason theres alot of hate for FFXI from this board is because a majority of us original posters,(me,redmoon, etc etc.) played FFXI and expected alot from it. Well needless to say it failed our expectations and actually made us hate it with its forced style of gameplay.

Yeah, I have both games, I have SWG and EQ too, the only active account I have right now is WoW though, I put my FFXI account on hold while I try my hand at WoW.

Right now the servers are an issue, but that is expected, I mean we all knew it was coming, although we always hope that it doesnt.

I'm a fan of the FF series too which is why I picked up FFXI to begin with. I agree with the original poster on a lot of strong points over FFXI, but I guess I just didn't see the reason for people to attack him for simply telling his story and opinion, he didn't even insult anyone in his post, he was just...

well, yeah, you know it's just stupid to attack people for that.

Because a lot of decent people are leaving FFXI for WoW, at least to try it. It's "hurting" a lot of people that their friends are "abandoning" them for, GASP, another game. What it comes down to is our own personal hubris; those that really love FFXI are "fulfilled" by it's trappings: I'll call it the "appreciation of the grind." Or it simply could be a sort of jealousy that someone could drop an account with the same amount of playtime and effort, but they can't?

The reason for the hate is multifaceted and we'll never really know why it's there. Frankly, for me, I was unhappy playing FFXI and I needed a change. I haven't cancelled yet, but, who knows...perhaps next week?

I know precicely why.

Simple those who move on to another MMO have a computer.

Those who bash insult karma troll and all the uther stupid stuff only have a ps2 and have no other mmo to play other than eq live.

I think this occurs because some players within these games invest much of their self-image in their in-game accomplishments which leads to them feeling insulted whenever someone says anything negative about their respective game.

People need something on which to base their self-image. I run into people at work who refuse to admit they are wrong because they have invested a bit too much in their pivot tables or whatever, and I find the same personality types in MMORPGs.

It's extremely sad to observe folks who take personal offense to opinions held by others about video games. On the flipside, it's also an uplifting experience, because I can say to myself, "Glad it ain't me."

It was my opinion -_^. I dont understand why they couldnt handle it, but I guess it got more attention than I figured it would--only confirming my suspicions about FFXI's decline as of late.

Incidentally, I've made several characters and got a few to level 10 already, i'm leaning towards a rogue/druid combo with my GF. I also got a surprise to learn that Taurens are more fun than I thought.

Sometimes, it's just fun to argue about topics like these. People who love FFXI will defend it to the death, while WoW lovers will do the same. It's like catching bugs and putting them together so they can duke it out...it's fun to watch. When I was an FFXI player, I too defended it for a time. The problems I had ran into were easily resolved by complete avoiding what I was doing that caused the problem( i.e. Had a lot of trouble finding/creating groups to level up in. Then one day -POOF- went bst!). Maybe some see it as trying to convert other people, which is very wrong. People cross over from one thing to another for their own reasons. You could try to convince a friend to stop playing FFXI and play WoW, but if they really like FFXI they will stay with it. Unfortunately for Aacra, the village idiot, I successfuly converted. Behold my 68+24 CHA!

Why's that unfortunate? Glad to have ya playin!

Note: How dare you use my title and not use the WHOLE thing...

The fact that you made a puppet account to post that thread was sort of a sore point with a lot of the people there. I don't really care but doing that doesn't display much class.

If you wanted to tell people you were leaving however many Gil and badass characters behind you should have just posted under your normal name.

Yes you did make a big scene outta that post, then went on with all your "facts" of why FFXI sucks, half or so being false too. You obviously wanted attention, and if you didnt expect those responses then that's pretty ignorant. That or you just like stirring things up.

Wuss.

Yay for the ressurection of a thread that wasn't very popular to begin with! You figure it would be much more simplier sending a damn private message...

Oh let me count the ways for you.

1.) It was posted in an FFXI Forum.
2.) It mentions WoW being possibly better.

3.) This one is long. When WoW started getting closer a large portion of the FFXI community here was hoping all the morons, losers, idiots, and bad players would go to WoW. Instead good players from FFXI started leaving. Players that had put in ALOT of time into FFXI were all leaving for WoW, I have seen people from level 30-72 (yes a level 72 quit FFXI for WoW) coming to WoW.

4.) We do the same thing most of the time when people from other MMORPG's try telling us their MMORPG is better and WoW sucks. Kinda like trying to convert a Christian minister to a Pagan, you know it won't work but you try anyways and you only end up pissing alot of people off.
#17 Nov 26 2004 at 2:40 AM Rating: Decent
well. alot of people, like me, had their first mmorgp experience with ffxi.

Some other people come from eq, so they quote EQ alot, we quote ffxi alot, and always try to compare things, i have already read threats about if xxx job is like xxx job from ffxi etc.

Well, duno, FFXI is a great game, but ppl got tired of it, some of us , and we would like to see something like ffxi but in a better way.

Anyway , i will forever love the taru tarus, now is the tiem for my dark elvs to rock.. and btw elvs on wow are not gay :D

peace out

People from my linkshell were 75, had multiple AFs, abjuration, god armor, Rank 10 in a few cities, Zilart missions done, a good portion of Promathia done -- and still left for WoW. Maybe they just ran out of things to do. :/

People just need a change sometime. When we enter these MMORPGs we all know we'll leave one day. I guess the two major players in the MMORPG scene at the time were FFXI and WoW so it was easy to polarize things and start wars over them. In my opinion no person can say which game is better than the other. Sure we can look at sales and subscriptions to see which one was better recieved. But even if a little MMORPG only has 50 subscribers those 50 obviously really like the game and their opinions should be respected. Nothing is ganined from bashing them with insults.

One reason why alot of FFXI players might hate WoW is because they are losing alot of players to it. I came from FFXI, and I know personally that alot of my friends really didn't want me to quit for a new game. I know that if I still really loved WoW and some brand new game started taking all my online friends off WoW and onto that new game, I might hold a little resentment towards it. Just my 2 cents.

Like people have said before, LS people and other try to protect their game..
Some people in my ls said for some weeks ago they would be away from FFXI because they was gonna Play Halo 2 and tons of other game..
Of course the people who still like FFXI wil lsay right away, Halo 2 sucks, dont leave..
Same as people said to me when I told them I would maybe leave when I get WoW, first thing from many of the people.. WoW Sucks, dont leave us..
FFXI people see that many good players leave, people they have been in ls with for like 8 Months, its hard to see them leave for another game..

Well, that was my post. I got lots of hate for that, but I guess I overstepped my boundaries in the ffxi board--I just spent the last year of my life playing ffxi and posting there so I figured I could talk amongst my peers.

I think many will migrate to WoW and that's why it's causing so much stir right now. But FFXI just got so negative I was hoping to influence some of the hardcore players to try WoW.

This board is great so far, not 7/10 negative posts like the ffxi boards lol.

When I sit back and compare games I look at the positive and negative from each games aspect. Now, I do not always succeed at making a good post about each game but I try and refrain from becoming down right nasty. I do not think that serves any purpose.

With WoW exploding with the number of servers needed to handle the demand currently the game will take care of itself and the release week will be history until the next MMO release. So far the game has a lot ot offer the casual gamer and hardcore gamers a like!

Why bother to even compare at all?

IMHO, these are two totally different games that I find hard to draw straight lines of comparibility between. I played both, and will continue to play both until I achieve my goals in FFXI and then move full time into WoW. I guess you can call me a fence sitter :), becuase both games have pros/cons and it is those which keep my playing both.

Yup, I agree completely. Although interestingly enough, I wasn't going to get WoW, the thing that drew me into it was the roleplay servers (I roleplay on FFXI you see), and since then I'm quickly becoming hooked on it *laughs* But I still have a group of friends in FFXI that I don't plan on leaving any time soon, so I'll be playing both games and slowly driving myself broke from all the monthly fees *laughs*

Don't rate me down for this, please. It's just something I observed.

Alot of the players I encountered on FFXI seemed conceited and bitter, perhaps because of the long waits for parties. On many occasions, I saw FFXI players talk about how much other MMORPG's suck. I heard, quite often, how "Anyone who doesn't leave EQ for FFXI is retarded". I know someone who was interested in WoW, and my linkshell made it nearly a priority to inform him how much FFXI was superior to all other MMORPG's. They didn't even make points, just the usual slander you'd find on the internet about things being "gay".

Also I got yelled at because I thought it was a bad idea to put all players from all countries onto the same servers, if only for the language barrier. I have no problem with japanese people, I just think it's a bad idea to put english speaking players and japanese speaking players on the same servers. I said this once, and was nearly thrown out of my party.

I'm not saying all FFXI players exhibit these traits, but the ones who did made themselves apparant rather quickly.
