Is 2-Hand Sword really needed for an aspiring tank? (WarriorFollow

I'm using one hand sword and shield at the moment, and to be honest I do not have any plans on using two handed swords. I want to be a pure damage absorbing tank. Is it really needed for me to level up my 2 hand sword? I would rather not if it's not a must.

No it is not.

You will do more damage with a 2h so it would be nice for times when you aren't the main tank and for PVP and for soloing.. but for most groups a shield would be much appreciated. Since the most recent patch shields have simply massive Armor and can nearly double your overall armor rating.

Just a quick question, if you dont mind.

You say "You will do more damage with a 2h" - why is this? Is it because in general 2h swords have a higher damage range and DPS? or is it because there is a damage bonus for using 2hs ie 140% damage?

ie if I find a 1h sword that does 7.1 DPS and a 2h sword that also does 7.1 DPS, is there a difference in damage output?

Most of the times you'll find 2hs and 1hs in the same area, but the 2hs will have a bigger dps ratio. Also you can compare it from quests that give multiple weapons, the 2 hand weapons always have a better ratio. So that's why they say 2hand do more dmg

Not to mention if your going for damage and not tanking, than 2h sword would be better because dual weilding 2 swords would most likely result in a lower dps due to miss ratios and damage of offhand.

Meh, train in both...

2 handed for PvP

1h with shield for PvE

Problem solved ;P

I generally tend to get all the skills I can because of the wider range of options. Sure it can cost a little money, but you can do it one at a time and such. =)

It's just that generally 2h will have higher DPS. But you could find a 1h that will have higher DPS than the others you may find for the same level. It's just that usually the ones on NPC's and quests and stuff have higher DPS than 1h.
