WoW Text QuestionsFollow

So I installed WoW last night, and after a brief 5 hours on queue I was on my way to playing. ^^

Now coming from FFXI, I found the interface to be akward as expected. Nothing horrible though. The main problem I had was the text.

I simply cannot read anything. Character names are blue text on blue backgrounds. Chat and Battle info is set on tiny blurry text sets. Beast names are impossible to read unless you move your cursor over them. Etc. etc. etc.

Question 1: Is there any way to make the text easier to read?

Question 2: Side note, can you designate camera rotation on your keyboard keys kinda like the arrow keys in FFXI?

Also any advice from past FFXI players to make WoW more user friendly for us would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I've never played FFXI, but from your description it sounds like there in an issue in your video options. Until someone with a bit more knowlegdge than myself comes along, I would play around with your resolution and other video options to see if that helps.

not sure what the problem is.

i had a problem with the darkness. adjusting the gamma helps quite a bit but unfortunately you cannot do this in windowed mode. also, if you have a hard time viewing enemies you an enable npc titles somewhere in the video or interface options, i don't exactly remember where. it doesn't look great, but atleast i know where all the mobs are.

i think there is a way to change the text size and colors but i'm at work so not able to play around with the game.
hope that helps.

Rt click on the chat window. You can change font size, font color, and background color.

The first thing I do when I create a new character is change the transparency of the chat window. It's impossible to read the way it is by default.

To do this, left click on your chat window. Then bring your mouse to the upper-left corner and right click on the "General" tab that appears (maybe left-click, forget). There you will have all sorts of options for channels and display options.

I found that leaving the font the same size and color is perfect, as long as you adjust the transparency silder to about 80% rather than the 0% it's at.

If you're still having problems differentiating channels, you can also change the color of each channel, but I've never bothered.

I found it helpful to split my chat channel and battle log, then increase the font size of the chat log. Just put cursor over chat window, then click combat tag, and drag it to the left, or in the UI options, you can select simple chat. Put cursor over window you want to increast font size, right click the tab and there is an option for font size there. You can also press "v" on your keyboard to display mob names and health bars over thier heads. Also, if things are "blurry" as you say, that's video card/memory issues, not the game, mine is perfect, although I agree, the blue names over other PCs are somewhat difficult to read.
